Absolutely! Although it can sometimes be difficult to catch small inconsistencies when you're so close to the story, especially if you're writing a super novel or long series. Not having a basic plan or outline can lead to a messy and illogical plot. Take the time to brainstorm and build your main plot before you start writing.

Absolutely! I used to believe that following an outline took the joy out of writing because it took away the surprise of fun ideas coming to me during the writing stage. However, without an outline, I often wrote myself into a corner, and could never see a way out. This led to lots of abandoned manuscripts. Now, I just write a couple of sentences for each chapter or scene so that doesn't happen anymore, but the outline is not so detailed as to take away the enjoyment of writing the story. I think with outlines as with writing in general, you just have to find what works for you. There's no one size fits all. Thanks for commenting!
