@@cwaltzmusic Not only are the accents terrible, but they used surnames that only Boston Americans would identify as uniquely Irish. The Fitzwilliam surname is as English as it is Irish (and probably more so), and in fact all of the Fitz names arrived in Ireland via England or English influence. I'd love to see Earl Wentworth-Fitzwilliam's reaction to this skit (something like, "My god, the Americans made us Irish?").

@Aisling Tallis St. George also criticized the King of England as a tyrant and is largely considered a soldier's knight. Perhaps his ethnicity could be overlooked in favor of his deeds. Just saying. That being said, bless St. Brigid and all that she did for County Kildare, an area I've wanted to visit for other reason. I just felt St. George was a bit more universal as I never cared that he was English. I cared more about his noble actions and felt the defiant spirit to the King of England and the notion of Death Before Dishonor was worthy of Irish attention and recognition.

There seems to be this folk belief among the American Irish that surnames with the prefix Fitz are Irish. Fitz surnames are English in origin and derive from Old Normand (or the Norman dialect of Old French). A name like FitzWilliam isn't an Irish name. These names arrived in Ireland after centuries of British involvement in the administration of the isle, and were mostly held by Anglo-Irish peers. Note that it is extremely offensive to many to be compared to the Irish. Names like FitzRobert, or my own FitzCharles, are solidly English.
