Took me decades to really understand what I've deduced are the 2 main takeaways from this classic: "Hold onto 16 as long as you can. Changes come around real soon, make us women and men." And, of course, "Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone." God bless 1982!

What a fantastic decade to have been a teenager, I enjoyed it so much. Such happy memories we were so carefree. Would love to go back for a visit I would so savor the moment. 😀😀

The BBC should have kept the Top Of The Pops logo and theme tune it used at this time. This could be one of the reasons why, in 1986 (when the format was changed), this show began its 20-year downward spiral until it was axed in 2006. But boy what a decade the eighties were to be growing up in.

This was the week The Day before you came by Abba dropped from no 32 to 35 so sad this happened, it was by far one of their best, now its known as a masterpiece, NME even voted it the 6th best song in a chart they compil a few years ago ❤

Well, I;m a 54 year old who remembers all of these tracks... they just DON'T make em like they used to... Really do hope you had a great time and survived the RAF experience with some humour. My 26 yr old Nephew is currently INVOLVED - just hopes he comes out in one piece! 🎶🎵🎹🎧🎼

Yes odd that I don't know why though. He wasn't like dlt or Savile either. But as he is not here know I guess we will not know alas. Also to note he presented this one on his own whereas some other ones had two doing so too did they not too.

That's interesting, the Blancmange lyrics were changed from "I'm up the bloody tree" to "I'm up the cuckoo tree"! Never heard that before. Were the BBC so prudish in 1982!! Not exactly a strong swearword is it!

The performance is available on their official VEVO channel through KZbin if you want to see George Michael say “Hey suckers” in their TOTP debut performance which was the opening act on the 04/11/1982 episode presented by Mike Smith, Sarah Greenes’ husband as he was shown once in 2008 as part of the Pop on Trial season in the Christmas 1982 repeat.
