That comment about the soldiers making sure the guys didn’t move more than 10 feet from the plane is just poor drama. I worked at ALERT as a civilian when I was young. I walked around taking photos of the signs saying ‘no photos allowed’ and no one said anything to me. They even processed the film there for me.
