Really appreciate the suggestions. Spent my life in the outdoors mostly in Oregon. At 70+, arthritis is a limiting factor but knowing about short trip ops inspire me to get back into the woods! BTW: I helped build the camps at Waldo Lake back in ‘66. It was so pristine you could drink right out of the lake with no need of filtration. Thanks again. An old man subbed! 👍

That's amazing that you helped build the campgrounds at Waldo. I bet it was totally different back then. Take a look at my Waldo Lake hike that I just posted. Thanks for subscribing :)

Yeah. Waldo was only accessible by rutted dirt roads back then. Sure wish I had taken pictures. Growing up in Oregon made us so used to natural beauty I guess we took it for granted. Worked all over the Oregon Cascades and the Wallowa mountains back in the 60’s & 70’s. Then cleaned wilderness trails by horseback in 92. Was like a paid vacation for me. Did some binge watching of your vids today while recuperating from shoulder surgery. Sure enjoyed them. Bringing back great memories. Thanks!!! ‘

Hike Oregon I thank you! You have me all psyched up! I’m gonna get back in shape (relatively so😜) so I can hit the trails again next summer. I’m moving back to the Umpqua area soon so plan on hiking and kayaking next year. Also gonna do a primitive winter camp down there over the holidays with my son as a warm up.

Hike Oregon Will do. Will be getting out of the surgery sling at the end of November but going to start scouting a winter camp location this coming weekend. Really looking forward to getting back in the woods. Keep “hoofing”it and stay safe. Very best!

Great list! Do Russel lake on a full moon night and you can read a newspaper after dark by the light reflected of Mt Jeff.! thanks for sharing. Rockpile lake also has a great easy chair rock just over the ridge to the east, where you can watch the sunrise over all of eastern Oregon. thanks for sharing!

Nice places I've been to a few of them; but I must say even the best Oregon scenery seems like little rolling hills compared to Washington's cascades north of Steven's pass. Easier to go cross country though.

As of 2016, you now need a permit (purchased beforehand) to stay at the sites in Jefferson Park-- FYI. Beautiful place up there!
@lindseyhikesandtravels7 жыл бұрын
Nevermind! I guess it didn't work and they canceled the system: www.fs.usda.gov/detail/willamette/recreation/?cid=stelprd3849890

+Lindsey Hikes and Travels they rescindicated that. I Just posted an article about it on the Hike Oregon Facebook page. No special permit needed.

Great video. Are there any fees to camp on any of those hikes?
@HikeOregon7 жыл бұрын
+Boodieman72 not really. Only if you want to camp in a small 2 mile area of the Scott Trail to Obsidian Loop. For that area you pay $10.
@Boodieman727 жыл бұрын

So many amazing choices! A mate and I will visit Oregon this December, flying in for it. Were both pretty fit, and we will have time for only 2 one night trips. Which would you recommend, given it will be December?
@HikeOregon6 жыл бұрын
All of the trips mentioned in this video are going to be buried in snow in December. There are some low elevation day hikes one can do, here are two links to some hikes on my website. www.hikeoregon.net/top-10-oregon-winter-hikes.html www.hikeoregon.net/top-low-elevation-winter-hikes.html

@@HikeOregon darn that sucks. Do you know any really good camping/hike spots in OR that are good for backpackers on foot. Like there are some areas where you can take a train then a bus. There may still be walking involved but the closer you get the better🤪 lol

Great information! Do you find that where you live in Oregon makes it easier to access a variety of hikes? For that matter, would there be a "best" town for a hiker to live in?
@HikeOregon7 жыл бұрын
Yes, Eugene is great for lower elevation foothill hikes, we are 1 hours from the coast for coastal hikes, and we are 1 hour away from the passes, so we can easily access the cascade mountains. It depends on what kind of hiking you want to do. If you prefer lush old growth forests and lots of moss and beautiful rivers and streams, then this area is for you. If you prefer rocky mountainous dry alpine desert terrain with lots of mountain lakes above the tree line, then Bend is the place for you to live. Portland is nice because you can easily access the Columbia Gorge and lots of Washington hikes as well as the coast.

Thank you very much! Could you please help? I want to have a one night backpacking trip in Oregon in this way: Day 1 - walk through the forest and camp at the ocean beach at night (is that allowed?), Day 2 - come back to my car:) Do you have any suggestions where I can do it?
@HikeOregon4 жыл бұрын
Some beaches you can camp on some you can’t. Most places don’t have a long walk from the car to the beach unfortunately. You could try Threemile Lake area. It’s not a long hike but it’s the only one I can think of that takes you to the beach.

Any chance you could send me a link to the waldo mountain lookout loop? Do you come from shadow bay salmon creek to get to the trail head? Or the Jim weaver loop?

It is offered on the Hike Oregon website as a members only hike so you’ll sign up for the seasonal membership and then you can even print it out for free.

you should do guided tours. with your knowledge you can show ppl amazing 5hings they wouldnt see otherwise and prob make aome really good money bvb doing what you love.
@HikeOregon4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately with the cost of insurance and all the fees you have to pay the state and the National forest service I would have to charge such a high fee for guided hikes to make it worth my time, no one would ever pay that. But I do offer customized backpacking trip itineraries where I work with individuals and what they want to see on a trip and how many miles they want to hike etc and then I write out a super detailed itinerary for them using all of my knowledge of the area. Doing something like that and writing Hiking guide books is way more worth my time.
@floridaman5374 жыл бұрын
@@HikeOregon makes perfect sense. its unfortunate something like that has so many ropes to jump through. the detailed itinerary is a good idea tho. i know id rather pay someone for their knowledge of the landscape to get the full experience and find out about some places that arnt well known. Keep up good work on videos too. i enjoy them, esp when stuck in place during the pandemic

Beautiful places...when showing these places could you mention if they're dog friendly please? I'm in northern Cali and some trails/parks don't allow dogs here.
