Maybe it wouldn't have mattered in the end, but I think Smitty's strategy at 31:54 is the right call. Up three points going into the 9th round, it's probably not the best idea to have your weaknesses outweigh your opponents perceived weaknesses when deciding on what question to double (like what Tommy suggested). You really throw a wrench in the opponents comeback chances if they don't end up stealing your question, especially considering that their double had already been used. So if you think they won't get it, double. If you end up nailing your doubled question, it's gravy, and also puts the game nearly out of reach. If you're assuming it's a weaker category for the opponent, they probably won't go 2/2 between yours and their question, which means 1/2 with the steal (and you missing a steal of theirs) is the worst case scenario. Even then, you're still up 1 point with a phone a friend and double-dip in your pocket going into the 10th.

Had this same outlook from the beginning and the fact that the 12 categories are already pre determined why not mix it up and rearrange the topics so each turn is a different category from the previous teams question but eventually all categories will be given to both teams, it's definitely a slight advantage to know the type of question being asked beforehand, though part of the nostalgia is the dozen being a literal shit show 😂
