Traffic isnt bad at all in Jacksonville. Whoever says this has never lived along the Northeast coast of America where you can wait in traffic for two hours on the regular without moving.

I totally agree. I only find it gets congested in certain areas at certain times. The city of Jacksonville has been constantly working on improving the roadways, and it is all in timing. Jacksonville's so-called traffic is definitely a lot better compared to other big metro cities. Don't you agree?

I'm fine with less to do. More to do means more people which means over crowding. There is plenty to do. My wife and I were just there two weeks ago and did a ton with more to go back for. People just become picky with what they want to do. Overstimulation of the modern world leads to boredom in the people.

I absolutely loved living in Jacksonville. I had to move because of my husband‘s job several years ago but I think there was a ton to do in Jacksonville and there’s so many things that are close by as well. You have a Lando just about an hour and a half away. You have the beach 20 minutes away. You can go down to Saint Augustine in about 45 minutes. I miss it so much. We plan on retiring back to Florida but I think we’re going to go more toward the Melbourne area.

@@yashawells it’s been several years but my husband and I used to like to go to the Riverwalk and visit the restaurants there. The kids like the zoo and botanical gardens. Of course they love the beach there was a place in the regency area which is actually where we lived that had to go karts and putt putt we visited pretty regularly. Of course we did the whole Disney World, Universal Studios, wet and wild, Busch Gardens, and all the normal touristy things. We actually had season passes for the Disney parks. Our entire family has great memories of living there. My husband and I plan on retiring back to Florida.

@@yashawells edited……. i’m so sorry I didn’t mean to write a book . Virginia, it has a lot to offer as well as far as natural and outdoor activities. Since we moved here, we really got into kayaking, fishing and camping, provided I have an actual camper. I can’t do a tent. And I have to have air-conditioning. I’m just weak like that 😂 We went camping at Anastasia national park campgrounds in Saint Augustine two years ago and really loved it. We are a black family so there’s not a lot of black families, kayaking, and camping and I really think that’s a shame because it’s a really great way to unplug. The Last 3 or 4 years we’ve seen an increase in the amount of POC taking advantage of our state and national parks and dipping their toes into activities like camping or hiking, and kayaking etc. My children are older, and in college now, but their friends still talk about going camping and kayaking with us as if it was going to a foreign country. It’s a great way to spend family time that won’t break the bank. If you tent camp, which I did for many years even down in Florida when the kids were younger, it’s very cheap. Around $20-$25 a night plus whatever food you’re going to eat. The beach is in walking distance or some other activity. I’m just too old for that now. I have to have a mattress and air conditioning and toilets that flush at 53. In my 20s and 30s I could rough it with the best of them.
@yashawells
@yashawells 10 ай бұрын
I have only been to Virginia Beach once as a teen. Hey, there is nothing wrong with having a camper. I shared with my husband that if we take our family camping, I would have to go glamping. LOL I believe my kids and their friends will be the same way we take them to enjoy the outdoors so much that they will talk about it with their friends as they get older.

Lived in jax between 2016-2019 then moved to chicago. Will be moving back to Jax in a month (not my choice lol). However, excited to see the new changes. Just don’t understand why they built the city backwards. So much investment was made into the surrounding areas and not at the heart of the city. Now they’re playing catch up. I do believe that every urban planner needs to go to big cities like chicago and take ideas from here and implement them in upcoming cities like jax. It can’t be that hard.
@yashawells
@yashawells 10 ай бұрын
Well welcome back to Jacksonville. Is work bringing you back here to Jacksonville? My most recent and favorite change is honestly the simple things the new paved roadways. It seems as though it is all being done at one time in certain areas of Jacksonville. Its nice to travel on those roadways and it is nice and smooth. What side of town will you be moving to? You are 1000% right. The surrounding areas have so much invested in them and the heart is not well taken care of or developed. I think you will like some of the changes that have happened since you have left.

When people say there isnt much to do in Jacksonville they dont know where to go and theyre usually boring themselves. Lots to do in Jacksonville like the beach, parks, hiking, St. Johns towne center, top golf mini gulf, indoor trampoline jumping, art walks, Adventure Landing go karts , Dave and Busters, riverside festivals, beach boulevard flea market, etc. Take the kids to the Sugar Factory or Sweet Petes restaurant. Then St. Augustine isnt far with more beaches and things to do. Really for kids all you need is the beach and they're plenty of beaches. Not to mention Orlando is a short drive away with the best amusement parks in the world ie Disney world, Epcot. Honesty, what more do you need?
@yashawells
@yashawells 8 ай бұрын
You said it, not me 🤣. You can find so much to do or new places to try when you look hard enough, right? I also share things to do in Jacksonville every Thursday on Instagram. Do you feel like people limit themselves to Jacksonville? There's so much to do within a few hour's drive. For example, today, my family is going to Ocala for Ziplining. It's halfway to Orlando.
@tracyi9152
@tracyi9152 7 ай бұрын
@@yashawells Yes definitely some Jacksonville people are limiting themselves and because it's so close to Orlando with all the theme parks they compare the two places. Thus it incorrectly looks like there is nothing to do but it's not true at all. Jacksonville is also close to Savannah Georgia, lots of islands ie. Sea Island, Jekyl Island, Hilton Head Island, and the Golden Isles of Georgia ie. St. Simon's Island and Amelia Island.

To be honest, there is no reason anyone should have to leave Jacksonville, the largest city in the country by land mass, to have fun. You can tell the city relies on being central to other cities for entertainment. I’ve lived here for eight years, been saying all this time that something will come that’ll be fun, but all we got was Top Golf. Shop, eat, drink, repeat, yet they’re still building all this housing 😒 Jax needs to get real.

There's only 1 pro of Jax: the cheap COL. I was born & raised in Jax, but left to Seattle a decade ago with no regrets. 4 moderate seasons, mountains, the Puget Sound, skiing in the winter, hiking year round, no bugs, no humidity,camping, diversity of food/arts etc...but all of that comes at a cost...it ain't cheap. What I will say is you're trying to start a family and you like year round hot weather, flatness, & lack of downtown culture, and you don't mind driving in your car at least 45 min to an hour daily to go from one side of town to another, Jax is for you. Oh & violent crime...can't forget that. It's not on every side of town, but it's rare for local Jax news to not mention a shooting nightly. I also miss Publix, so I guess that's 2 pros 😆
@yashawells
@yashawells 10 ай бұрын
I can agree that a PRO is the cost of living. I was not born and raised here in Jacksonville, but I did relocate here from Oak Harbor, Washington. Coming from a much small city and colder weather. I can truly appreciate the warmer climate Florida has to offer. The downtown and surrounding areas are improving. We just have to be more patient with the changes. It seems there have been a lot of improvements recently, especially our roadways and now the coming JAGS stadium downtown. It's starting to get artsy downtown I like to see more murals and artwork to view while driving or walking. Yes, I love PUBLIX too! But you have Safeway. I remember always having great experiences there. Crime is definitely a thing here, but I think that's in any growing city. I love the PROS you shared. Are you sure you don't have anymore?
@misteriknow2069

@yashawells I love Oak Harbor!!! Whidbey Island and Deception Pass State Park is a top destination in WA. It's one of those places, I like to take out of town visitors to and they fall in love with WA and the PNW. I will say it's a small town, but you can't beat the natural beauty around that area. One of the many perks of Washington life as you might know. Safeway is cool, but that's like our Winn Dixie. I'm more of a QFC, PCC kinda guy. Haggen's is cool too once you're in the Eastside burbs. I'm glad to see Jax is improving too, but still sad to see they're replacing the Landing with another park smh. Jax needs an attraction downtown like an aquarium or major retailers or even a theme park. It's just 5 skyscrapers and a huge Baptist Church and a monorail that goes across the river to nowhere...which is sad to see. Imo, the peak of Jacksonville was during 2013/2014 when the One Spark Festival had downtown popping. In that era I thought Jax was set to be the next Austin or Nashville or even Charlotte because the energy was authentic and contagious...the whole city came together in a central urban setting. Nowadays the only pros I can think of are low col, pretty chill traffic compared to most major cities, and most of my family being there. Oh and of course: Go Jags!!!
@yashawells
@yashawells 10 ай бұрын
Yes, Oak Harbor is my heart 💖. It's so nice there. I miss it a lot. I tell my husband and kids about it all the time. It was the best place to grow up and make lifelong friends. Awe Safeway was the one I remembered most. I know I really wish Jacksonville created more activities at the landing instead of the park. The landing was a favorite of my family and I remember doing dance recitals there in front of the Christmas tree 🤣. Yasss one spark was awesome. I remember that time as well. I wonder why that has stopped. I will have to look more into that. Jacksonville still holds events like the Jazz Festival Downtown that's always nice. That was another thing that I did with my family growing up here. The New and Improved Stadium will definitely bring a lot more attraction here. I'm looking forward to it. The City of Jacksonville just hired an attorney to advise them in the negotiation process with the Jaguars. It's super exciting. I also want to say thank for your taking the time to connect with me here. I love anyone who knows about Washington State not DC 🤣.
@misteriknow2069
@misteriknow2069 10 ай бұрын
@yashawells you should definitely take your family out to Oak Harbor and the rest of WA in the near future. Especially in the Summer, where WA shines best! But yeah, One Spark stopped because of lack of funding I think, but don't quote me on that lol. The city should have capitalized on the momentum to build up downtown and fought hard to keep that festival here. I get that Jacksonville has Jazz Fest, GA/FL, World of Nations, Artwalks, etc, but there needs to be a constant flow of people in Jax's downtown core, not just when there's an event in town. I'm hoping the new improved stadium and J-Lot by the Shipyards bring in more consistent foot traffic to the city and draw people in from the burbs to the city. And no problem with the conversation, I'm always glad to see people move to other parts of the country to see what else is out there, since there's a region for everyone in this big diverse country we live in. It's funny, how most of my family in FL still thinks I live in DC when I say WA until I say Seattle and they're like "Oooohhhh". (Funny thing is, when you say Washington on the West Coast, nobody thinks of DC 😆)
