What has been your experience with the Apollo x4? How does it compare to other interfaces you have used❓
@dspoet12 жыл бұрын
I got the first generation Apollo Twin in 2014 and then in 2020 got the Twin X, six years total of working with the Twin. Almost two months ago, a friend of mine told me about RME. After a bit of research, I ditched my Twin X and got the RME UCX II. I can tell you from experience that the RME UCX II is leaps and bounds better than the Apollo Twin. 1. The clocking is better. 2. The preamps are cleaner and better. I get 72 dB of clean preamp gain opposed to the 65 dB of gain that's colored from the Apollo Twin 3. Better converters which means better conversion. Converters on the Apollo Twin are sub-par. 4. The soundscape is clearer and wider. I hear things in my mixes that I didn't hear with the Apollo Twin. 5. More inputs and outputs. RME UXC II: 20-in/20-out. Apollo Twin X: 10-in/6-out. 6. You can't bypass the preamps on the Apollo Twin X when using an external mic preamp. The signal still passes through the Apollo Twin preamps, which still add a little bit of color to the sound/signal coming from the external preamp. I found this out about six months ago. This means I wasn't getting the full advantage of my Neve Shelford Channel. After switching to the UCX II, problem solved. With plugins from Plugin Alliance and now some from UAD Spark (13 native plugins), the ones I was using anyway before I sold the Twin, I don't need the Twin anymore to run those plugins. Plus I can add a UAD Satellite to run more UAD Plugins if I wanted to. The only thing the Twin X has over the RME UXC II is the ability to track with Unison Preamps, which really doesn't matter if you track with hardware gear. For the price point, I get more bang for my buck with the RME UCX II.

Can’t argue with what you are hearing, and RME make really good interfaces. If good conversion is the main objective then I would surely pick it before the Apollo. But some of the stuff you listed here are things that makes more difference on the paper than in real life. Like not being able to bypass the preamps. The difference it makes is bigger in one’s head than it is in the actual world.

🙏🏾 THANKS Jeffy. Yeah I've Been Seeing The SPARK Adverts. If I'm Understanding It Right.. It's a Subscription based Alternative To Allow You To Run The UAD Plug-Ins Without Having To Own One Of Their Interfaces.. Are You a UAD User Yourself..?
@JeffyG2 жыл бұрын
@@mastermiller9776 yes. I have about 20 plugins and the Apollo Twin X. I received an offer to convert my plugins to the Spark subscription - free for the first year - but I’m not interested in starting to pay an annual subscription in year 2 for plugins I’ve owned for the last 4 years. I guess the pitch is that they’ll add new plugins to Spark from-time-to-time, but I’ll just stick with the hardware/software I own. I’m not against subscriptions when it makes sense.
@mastermiller97762 жыл бұрын
@@JeffyG Man I'm Right There With You On The Subscription Tip.. When It Makes Sense 🎯. So I Looked Into The SPARK a Little More And 1 Thing That Crossed My Mind Was.. I'm Wandering How Well An Individual's Computer Can/Will Support The Processing Power Without The SHARC chips ☺️🥴 You Know Due To The Extensive Modeling, Some Of The UAD Plugins Are "DSP Hogs" . In The SPARK FAQs It Mentions, How Many Plugins Can I Run Within SPARK..? And It Said However Many You Computer's CPU Can Handle ☺️🙈🤷🏽♂️.. Well Lets Just Say I'M DYING! TO KNOW WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE 👀 BECAUSE I KNOW! How Quickly Those SHARC chips Fill Up. So Im Super Curious On How Many Instances a Mix Session Full Of UAD Plugins Say, an i9 Processor Can Handle..? ..😏 Guess There's Only One Way To Find Out.

Jeffy G! How's Those UAD Plugins & That Apollo Twin X Been Goin'..? Have You Tracked or Mixed Anything That "Moves You" Lately..?
@JeffyG2 жыл бұрын
@@mastermiller9776 nothing lately. In fact, it’s a little embarrassing. I’ve been working on electronic/trance/dance/chill material largely based on samples and I need to find a vocalist appropriate to this genre. The UA plugins are really excellent for vocals, especially the API Vision channel strip, 1176 and LA2A. Also learning the subtle tweaking with the Pultec EQ.

Hi Can I connect 2 pairs of monitors?
@mastermiller97762 жыл бұрын
Hey Victor 🙏🏾Nice To Meet Ya Man. 2 Pairs Of Monitors Connected Directly To The X4? 🥴 I'mah Have To Say Is a "No-Go" The Monitoring Section on The X4 Only Has 3 Stereo Outputs "HP1" > "HP2" > "MONITOR" So You Can Only Hook Up 2 Pairs Of HEADPHONES & 1 Pair Of MONITORS.. That's It.

@mastermiller97762 жыл бұрын
JLP 333! 🙏🏾 I Appreciate Ur Comment. ..and RESPECT for The "Antelope" Mention. 👀 ANTELOPE AUDIO HAS SOME DAMN GOOD UNITS ✨I Was Looking At Their "PURE 2" (AD/DA Converter) Some Time Back but I Decided To Go With DANGEROUS MUSIC Instead. ..but to keep things in context.. YES.. 😏 An "ANTELOPE AUDIO ZEN TOUR SYNERGY CORE" vs "UA APOLLO X4" 🗣 Would Be A Hell Of A "High End Mobile Audio Interface Comparison Vid".. You're gonna be making HQ Productions with both units.. it just depends on which company or platform u are wanting to invest in. ..as Both Units Have the "REAL TIME FX PROCESSING" & "Near ZERO LATENCY".. Nonetheless.. Touché.. Thanks for "Stirring the Pot" & Driving The Conversation.. Know that I'm Here for It All. ..and YES, The Conversation Will Be Getting Better.. 🙏🏾Thanks Again.

did you compare in an A / B test thisx4 to other higher quality interfaces ? ( with better converters, better meaning more transparent, neutral and with a better clock that reduces jitter in audio signal), the twin X and x4 do NOT have the same clock as in the x16 and x8 by the way Lynx, RME , Prism, Apogee beat the UA X4 in terms of conversion (especially D to A), but by how much is subjective and debatable,...... the x4 is great overall.....no doubt......but i feel like highlighting ONLY positives in a "this is THE Best" way about any device is not the truth.....every device has some flaws..... .for example (i) Apogee Symphony Desktop sounds better than UA any-day, but it has a touch screen (thats wack - no real buttons, UA is better in this aspect as buttons are easy to reach and hit while recording - instead of touching a screen and diving in menus on the screen to change a setting), and its i/o is very limited to the point that we cannot use any hardware with the device (UA wins here as well), so Symphony desktop is very limited in those specific areas but does sound better in terms of D to A conversion especially, + cleaner pre amps - now Apogee does offer a Unison preamp like feature but does not offer all the emulations that UA does......... still a choice for those who are always "in the box", they CAN choose that device over this one..... (ii) the RME does not have unison pre amps and one may prefer the UA console software + unison preamps and choose the UA for that reason - and that is totally cool but in terms of converters, RME is better than UA, anyday (iii) Prism sounds better than UA but Prism software is not nearly as advanced and easy to use as UA (iv) Lynx sounds better than UA in terms of conversion but Lynx does not offer any of the union pre amps and so on...... "to each , his own"

UTSONUT..🙏🏾First Off I Want To THANK YOU For YOUR INPUT 👆🏾☺️ That's A Lot To Respond To.. As You Are Creating New Discussions Within Discussions. Which Is Dope. I Welcome It Allll ☺️🙏🏾 But I Will Try My Best. So Let's Start With The Root Of The Matter. Based On Your Response, It's Suffice To Say, You Have Fallen Out Of CONTEXT Very Quickly. So Let's Revisit The Title Of The Video. > "Top 5 Reasons WE THINK The Apollo X4 Is The Best Audio Interface" Key Words: "WE THINK". Meaning This Is Our OPINION, NOT A "Definitive Claim" Where I Then Went On To Lend Perspective & CONTEXT For My Reasoning With One Of THE MAIN REASONS Being.. "PORTABILITY". Stay With Me UTSONUT. CONTEXT, UTSONUT, Is Where We're Getting Lost In Translation Here. It Would Be Different IF The Video Was Titled "THE BEST CONVERTERS ON THE MARKET", But It's Not. It Would Be Different IF The Video Was Designed As A FULL LENGTH REVIEW, Where People NORMALLY Talk "PROS & CONS", But It's Not. "Top 5 Reasons WE THINK The Apollo X4 Is THE BEST Audio Interface" The Context Of The Video Title Alone, Alleviates Any Need To Be Discussing "Flaws" As This Was Not A "Pros & Cons" Video. So Once Again, CONTEXT Is Everything. So With POTABILITY Being One Of My Main Reasons. I Am Leaving ALL RACKMOUNT Units Out Of The Discussion. As They Are Not Conducive For Travel Application. So Now That We Have Re-Established The CONTEXT. A Lot Of Your Comment, In Your Own Words, Supports The Notion That YOU EVEN FEEL That The UA, Is In Fact, The Better Interface Vs The Alternative Brand Units You Proposed. ALL EXCPET FOR ONE ASPECT That You Continued To Fall Back On... "Sounds Better".. More Specifically the AD/DA Conversion. Now This Is Where It Gets Interesting.. By The Way, I'm A Fan Of Your Passion for Audio. But At This Level Of Audio Quality UTSONUT, To Try Lay Hand Over The X4s Conversion With The Likes Of.. Anything! ☺️ Is Gonna Be A Stretch.. Like You Said Yourself.. "by how much is subjective and debatable".. So If Thats How You Feel.. 😆 What R We Even Talking About here..? ..But I Did Say, "I'm Here For It All", So Lets Drive The Discussion.. "Apogee Symphony Desktop sounds better than UA any-day" ..👈🏾 So To Ur Claim I Would Say Ur TROLLING ☺️ But.. Lets Go There.. The Only Way To Really PROPERLY Support That Claim, At This Level of Audio.. Is With EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY MONITORS, Which Most Viewers DON'T HAVE.. While Sitting in A Very "Intentionally Designed Room" That Is Optimized For Monitoring Audio Playback. Which Once Again, Most Of Us Are Not Going To Be Sitting In. Nonetheless, What MONITORS You Are Monitoring With and What ROOM You Are Monitoring In, Is Going To LARGELY IMPACT That Claim.. Made By Anybody. Not To Mention The Level Of "Ear Training" Of An Individual Making a Claim On Audio Quality at this level, Is Gonna Be As Big Of A Variable As The Room And Speakers. But Let Me Stop There. I Just Want To Make Sure I Matched Your Enthusiasm Here In The Comment Section ☺️🙏🏾 I Love Comments Like Yours. As It Leads Me To More Studying and well.. I Am ALWAYS LEARNING. So For That I THANK YOU, Once Again. But I Wanna Revisit The Aspect Of Your Comment of You You Saying, >>>> "Lynx, RME , Prism, Apogee beat the UA X4 in terms of conversion (especially D to A)" #ThatPart How DO YOU.. In Your Mind.. In Your Heart of Hearts.. Even Begin To Quantify That Claim..? 🤔To That Part, I'm Genuinely Curious.. Oh And If You Can Add In What Studio Monitors (and Headphones) You Are Using To Support Your "Sounds Better" Claim, That Would Also Be GREATLY APPRECIATED! ☺️ Cuz I for real Might Need To Get Some New Ones. ThanksInAdvance. When U Get A Chance Of Course.. I'll Be Here.
