I've been on a Jamaican food kick the last several months, and this video has been quite helpful. Green onions, thyme and habenero peppers are used in almost all of the dishes.

LOVE YOU Fay!!! My husband is able to get Scotch Bonnets in Chicago but we've yet to find a source where we live here in Indiana, there's one booth at the local Farmer's Market that we frequent for domestic fresh anything and the owner has never heard of them. And until I met Raymond, I didn't know the difference between a Sweet Potato and a Yam, the label on a can of Sweet Potatoes usually reads Yams. We're LOVING your videos!!

This was an excellent video on substitutions. Some of the spices and foods I have substituted in the past that I thought was okay, was totally wrong. This video is a big help, TY! :)

Great list! As for the Jamaican sweet potato, is the orange one a good substitute for that or something else?
@CookLikeAJamaican7 жыл бұрын
+Letesha McKenzie No, the orange sweet potato is not a good substitute because they cook differently

jesus let me share you a story about what happened to me last night!!! Went to the grocery store and asked the lady if they sold codfish, she said yes, and pointed to the freshly caught ones in the display. I said, no the salted one and she located it for me, tightly wrapped and seal...so i smelt it and it smelt familiar...and lord i nearly lost it in the store... its SO hard to find ANYTHING around these parts...and so im looking in the meat aisle and I found me some Lamb (my subtitute for goat) and I come across OXTAIL jesus take the wheel i was cartwheeling down every lane til i saw the price...sadly had to walk away from that one lmao

Cleric, that was a funny post (lol)...........
@CookLikeAJamaican7 жыл бұрын
So we know who's cooking up some saltfish today! Yes, you can substitute lamb for goat. That would've been good to note in the video ;) Oxtail is expensive everywhere right now. Worth the splurge you have a good recipe though - visit our website ;) Thank you for watching!
