You can certainly hear the difference with the piano hammer. Looked up some old Tyminski listings and it appears they used rear-shifted bracing, to mimic his 1946 D-28.

Yeah... you're right. I'm not sure there's a forward X non-scalloped guitar.

well i would argue we’re getting closer. ive had many guitars my clapton has a tap tone that if anyone heard would say wow. thats just from the tap.

I'm hearing the fundamental resonant frequencies (prominent tap tone keys) of each A/B guitar (in orders of their being tapped) as: Fmin., Dmaj. Cmaj., and A maj. Besides the depth and "woof" of tap tones, I find that my guitars, both modern and vintage, have an increased resonant response when played in specific keys. Thanks for this great video! Edit: I wonder how scalloping/ increasing flexibility would alter a top's responsiveness to specific frequencies. Perhaps scalloping would open up more overtones?

The first and last guitar are the same one. You hear it dropping from Fmin all the way to Amaj? Is that A _above_ the Cmaj or _below_ it? I know what I think, I just wanna hear your thoughts. Also... I think it might be interesting to do this again in 2-3 weeks (just before I ship it), to see if the newly scalloped guitar has shifted. I predict that it will.

@@Bryankimsey It makes sense that the first and last are the same! Giving your hammer taps a closer listen, I'm actually hearing different, non- diatonic tones as you tap different areas of the same guitar! Or maybe I'm overthinking it??😂 I heard the " key of C maj." tones as being lower than the first guitar's tones. The first/ last, on a second listen, seemed like pitches A, F#, and G, at least to my ear (and through video/ earbuds)! While I ultimately tried to listen to these "resonant frequency pitches" as a fun ear-training challenge, I think my biggest takeaway is that a guitar's heightened response to different pitches is maybe not organized diatonically, but instead is a "random" assortment that may or may not neatly fit into a scale, key, or musical mode. And of course, where these resonant frequencies fall in accordance to different octaves (ie. whether a guitar has an accentuated/ heightened bass, mids, or trebles), is another factor to take in, and is the one you're analyzing in this video. Regardless, this interests me a ton, and I'll read up on this more (on bracing patterns and their sonic results), in addition to watching more of your excellent videos!

That's exactly why I tapped on different parts of the bridge. I'm trying to illustrate that different parts produce different tones. I can't put them to a specific note but I can totally hear the different responses. You got my point in that I'm trying to make one part of the tone deeper while not losing the crispness I want in the other part of the tone. Always interesting getting someone else's take on it!

If you get ahold of a 2017 or newer D28 Std and scallop the X, I'd really like to hear that aswell. Great video as they always all are!

I've done a bunch of 90s and 00s in the past. Same deal as a 70s. I also shave the rear back braces on them.

I'd like to hear your take on the issue of putting medium strings on an OM; is this an issue? OMs are mostly thought of as fingerstyle/light string kind of guitars, but a lot of flatpickers play them too so I'm wondering if mediums are generally good or bad for an OM?

On OMs and my Ds for that matter, I use the balanced mediums I talk about here kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqqnh5igmLaHgsU
