Strong north winds after cold fronts are magic days for me. It schools the big bass up,and when you find them it's fantastic fishing! Usually they want slow moving plastics with a fast drop and they can't leave it alone.

Orange or red lipless cranks have always done me well in heavy wind for bass. Doesn’t really matter if it’s stained or not. That or natural colored lipless/ 5-6 foot depth cranks but depth can change depending on where you’re fishing.

Went today in heavy wind, fished the calmer bank and ended up catchin a few. Went a long time without a bite n tied on a jerkbait n caught 4 in last 30 min.

When I was little pap would cancel a trip if it was blowing real bad. Then around 12 when I really started learning to bass fish he quit cancelling. I ask him about it and he said if you're gonna tournament fish with me in a couple years you gotta learn to fish in it , and besides sometimes it can actually help you.

Having an Ultrex has made all the difference in my attitude towards "The Hawk". Before spot lock I dreaded fishing in the wind....now I look for windy days when the barometer is falling. Over 20 or 25 mph I tend to stay off the water for safety reasons.

I have a little 12 foot aluminum boat and the wind will really throw me around but if the wind drags you parallel down the shore I’ll throw an extra rod out with a glide bait. I’m basically trolling will the wind and the action on the glide bait is perfect for a large fish. All the while I’m casting quick and doubling my chances.

It’s taken me fifty plus years to realize that fish bite in the wind and these last few years I’ve had some of my best days in the wind. Also caught my PB bass two years ago in choppy water on a chatterbait.

I'll never forget seeing an angler throwing the huge whopper plopper 190 in very rough conditions.....looked like a 5-7 lb. Bass destroyed it in those waves!

As a kayak fisherman, 15mph is my absolute max, but at 20+ doesn't it become a safety issue for boaters too? I mean Randy is talking 25 to 30 mph sustained winds...on open water that is usually going to translate to whitecaps and very large swells.

Most boats will drive to a bay or arm and fish the Lee side just like you could or do

Larry Nixon showed me that when the wind blew like you’re saying don’t put down a crank bait. Also a spinner bait is good but not as effective as a crank bait. And burn that sucker!

I live in Texas and all of our reservoirs run north to south and most of them are over 10,000 acres and relatively shallow compared to natural lakes. A 20-25 mph wind creates 12"-18' white caps and it is impossible to control a boat in a lake than is that rough. So how are you supposed to fish a wind swept bank in open water?

Anchor or troll. You can also use a drift sock or bucket
