Top Ten Cryomancers in Fighting Games

Ice is nice when discussed twice. Back in 2014, I made a partial joke video on the best ice manipulators in fiction. Since that video, though, I’ve received plenty of requests to take a more “serious” look at cryomancers, AKA ice users, in fighting games. Since it’s the end of the year when ice is all around us, I decided to take on this suggestion at look at the characters with ice powers in fighting games. Happy New Year!

One cool thing about Iceman in Marvel vs. Capcom was that his block would prevent block damage from "beam" attacks. Although, I was disappointed they didn't do anything w/ his ice slide... that's like his signature move in other media!

Good list my friend obviously Sub Zero is number one and I really hope Frost makes it in MK11 absolutely adored this kharacter in Deadly Alliance hopefully they expand her moveset significantly all she could do was the ground freeze and ice slide. Real happy to see Kolin make an honorable mention though she is a new character gameplay wise I assume that’s why she may not have made it on the list but she is possibly my favorite new SFV character hands down great memorable moveset for the future to come and backstory explained and seen now as a sympathetic character which led to being Gill’s primary enforcers. Kula Diamond is also one of my favorite KOF characters and ice characters period as all mentioned and Glacius I don’t know many cryomancers but she is really fun to play as awesome special moves glad she made it really high on the list behind Sub Zero!!!

With your bit about Persona 4 Arena, none of the characters can actually use different skills, and the characters they summon aren't actual deities. It's basically the idea of those deities made into a representation of the character's personality, as that's pretty much what a Persona is. The characters aren't super heroes, after all. They're just normal people, even if they may have a lot of money like in Mitsuru's case. As such, it wouldn't really make sense to compare Mitsuru to actual super heroes. Though, I guess she would at least have more of a place on the list than Captain Cold, still, as summoning a Persona in general still is some form of super power, given that in Persona's case, it's control over one's own mind.

If I had to include another honorable mention on this list, it would definitely have to be Cirno in Touhou Hisoutensoku. Though her series of origin is a bullet hell shooter game, she was a playable character in one of the official spinoff fighting games. And she was notably one of only three playable characters in that game who got their own proper story modes, the other two being Meiling and Sanae. And even without the fighting game aspect, she could definitely qualify as a cryomancer as she's a fairy with ice powers.

Cryomancer is only the one, who uses ice powers like kinetic abilities! Like creating projectiles out of thin air, turning to ice etc...its more like magic than anything! If one uses a gun and dressed in snow cloths - he ISN'T Cryomancer! People like Captain Cold, Mister Freeze, Ice Climbers are just characters, using "snow motif" by either carrying some sort of ice-based weapon or simply dressed in snow cloths and thats it...but they aren't Cryomancers! The real Cryomancers are - Sub-Zero (MK), Kolin (SF), Kula (KOF), Frost (MK), Killer Frost (DC Comics), Iceman (X-Men) and you know all those people...Calling the likes of Ice Climbers cryomancers would be equal to calling me a cryomancer for dressing in some winter cloths and picking rolling pin or something as my weapon LOL

Well, after watching 3 episodes of the anime I figured, “you know, everything here is bugging me except the super cool magic talk, so I bet you it’s light novels are amazing reads” and then I proceeded to read all 26 installments of the light novel, and let me tell you, they were amazing, I love the characters, I rewatched and enjoyed the anime with a knowing eye, and smiled at all the subtle foreshadowing the anime nailed at not making people suspect a thing.
