MN9 is also a good example of a sunk cost fallacy. According to MattMcMuscles, the game did not actually reach the amount of funding they said it did, someone just royally screwed up at math and they realized it too late. But rather than try to clear up the misunderstanding, the team thought it would be better to try to make the game as if they had that kind of money. Rather, while I had expected Mighty No. 9 to still make the list, I was hoping to find even bigger Kickstarter blunders than that, where unlike Mighty No. 9, which at least gave us an actually enjoyable game to play, those other Kickstarter trash heaps wouldn't have even offered anything remotely as enjoyable, or even playable, as Mighty No. 9.

For those not in the know, Animusic is a series of 3D animated music videos with instruments and other contraptions performing different original songs themselves. Pretty neat stuff that released in the mid 2000s. Anyways the third entry was promised with a release of 2013, promising merch and even using updated hardware through the Unreal Engine. Unfortunately, the project faded away due to the over ambitious nature of the whole thing. Eventually members of the development team left the project and the rights to the series were given to a completely different company, which currently has no plans for it. Saddens me to see such a great idea go to waste like this.

Honestly I like the bosses of 9, I mean it could of helped they didn't try to extend to the moon before making an airtight shuttle that wasn't going to fall apart at the Stratosphere. The boss intros with the WARNING WARNING gave a good tone of "here's the boss, good luck"

Pretty sure Enchanted Portals would’ve made the list if it wasn’t released later in September

15:01 I know it's for visual aid, but how DARE you associate such an underappreciated landmark of my childhood as De Blob (2) with that absolute blight upon the Internet!

You know what, I have my own dishonorable mention for you that comes from last year. So a game early that caught my radar early on in its life was a game called Indie Rumble. It didn't look all that impressive and was meant to be an indie platform fighter that was a massive crossover, but the initial roster had mostly the creator's characters from their other games, which tended to be shorter versions of other popular games at the time (ex. Omori and Monkey Ball). However, though the project eventually got a glow up and was going to heavily focus and get what it needed to be done before it went to do the kickstarter. Everything was looking great, somewhat big names were being announced, everything was looking up. Hell, on the day of the kickstarter, it was confirmed that V-1 from Ultrakill would be playable and the guy from Postal would be a boss. The next day, allegations came out against the creator. Some were kinda dumb like being a jerk in the comments of Steam, and some a bit more serious. The whole project was on the line, and he stepped down from the project so that it could continue, even without him. The day afterwards, some people who had their characters in the game (won't be pointing fingers) pulled out after calling the team unprofessional for the situation, and the project and kickstarter got cancelled right there on the spot. It was heart breaking, to say the least. I was just someone who wanted to heavily back the game, the staff had it worse. I wish they are doing better now, but man was the whole situation just hurts a bit to look back on to see how everything fell apart in like 4 days of the kickstarter going up.

Night Cry not only should've been a dishonorable mention,but also on the list at a high spot because of how much they screwed over the backers. If you've watched the tangomushi video,you know why. It's like they made the same mistakes as the MN9 kickstarter,except worse.

Shovel Knight, Undertale, and the potato salad guy remain the only good kickstarters to this day.

Not gonna lie, I totally expected Shaq Fu A Legend Reborn to be on the list, or at least a dishonorable mention.

MN9 wasn't terrible, but needed lots more time in the oven. Although I've heard that Mighty Gunvolt was a better version, something good came from it.

Kickstarter is getting a bad reputation at this point, let's hope it doesn't become a nft site Btw your anger against nft in this video is completely justified

I think Kickstarter needs to heavily rework how it vets potential projects. Like putting barriers of entry/requirements for being able to do a Kickstarter. Don't know what those requirements would be,but if done right,it would cut down on the number of kickstarters that fail either because of scammers taking advantage of lax policies or inexperienced people overestimating their own skills and how hard game development can be.

The number 1 pick is eerily identical to the introduction story of the character of Mr. Big from the PBS Kids cartoon Wordgirl.

One of the biggest Kickstarter Fails in my opinion is Day Of Dragons, tons of money given to a project that only has a tech demo with preexisting assets to show for it, immature and toxic responses from the developers in the face of legitimate questions, 3 years since the early accesses release with no news in sight, and threatening the KZbinr IGP who made videos discussing the event with a Cease and Desist Order, there is a certain word that comes to mind.....SCAM

Surprised Yooka Laylee didn’t make the list
@jasonmartinez51162 жыл бұрын
Yooka Laylee got a sequel and it was much better than the original, maybe that's why it didn't make it on here. Although, you also got the cancellation of the Wii U version in favor of Switch

Well, look at Playtonic now; they have their own publishing branch, Playtonic Friends, and all of their published games were all well-received. Now, the question is, what is their development branch, Playtonic Games, currently working on? They left a micro teaser a year or two ago and we still don't know what it is...

24:07 Really curious that Fur Fun of all things was in the dishonourable mentions. That thing didn't even have that much presence in English-speaking communities at all, at best it made Jim Sterling go out and tear the game's creator apart (which was, admittedly a cool moment), but it was otherwise not really a memorable disaster.

There are only a handful of Kickstarters I backed, and that's because I chose wisely AND they actually followed through on their promises: * Bloodstained * The Legend of Vox Machina * The Resident Evil board games This list of ten duds? A flat-out Mighty NO to those.

I should've backed them, and BOTH MST3K ones

Kickstarters are a combo of a gamble and a coin flip. On the one hand, ya have giants like Bloodstained, Shantae, and our lord and savior with a digging appliance for a weapon. On the other hand…these guys who are on the list.

Wonder if fnaf will be in this list since it was on kickstarter, but not a single dollar was given
@arthursnyder6935 Жыл бұрын
Yeah fnaf's Kickstarter was a fail but the game was so successful that it not only spawned a bunch of sequels and novels, it even spawned a movie that released about two weeks ago in theaters and on Peacock

About Untamed Isles, since the inspiration is Pokemon that game had a consultant in the name of Wolfe Glick, the pokemon VGC world champ. if only they have no web3 inspirations from the very beginning i might have give it a pass as a case of "be careful of who are funding your game"

I know this may sound silly this video suggestion but how about a Top 13 Worst Elemental Bosses? Each boss for each of these elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Ice, Eletricity (Lightning), Light, Dark, Metal, Nature, Undead, Poison, and Magic.
