Fun fact with the last one, it's not just the rulebook and logo that were plagiarised. By the end of the campaign people were finding the original 3d assets they'd ripped off for the renders of some of the minis too (one of the characters was a person's CG fanart of the protagonist of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, for example) That said, I'm amazed we didn't get the Robotech campaign in this list.

@Alison Zable A quick google says that it was a wildly successful campaign that wasn't able to fulfill due to some combination of mismanaged finances and the original license holders not allowing Palladium to renew, and thus make it impossible to create additional product. For some reason the article also mentioned Ninja Division being involved, and they... aren't doing great. Like, I've got my fingers crossed, and they certainly seem to be clawing their way back, but definitely still not in a good place.

I used to play an actual licensed Jumanji game I was really young. it was amazing, all right I’ll take a nostalgia goggles off for one second. it was all right, I would say that most kids nowadays probably wouldn’t be entertained by it but being a kid the 90s that boardgame along with all the other board games that took our parents 4 to 5 hours to set up the board game and The game only lasted about a half an hour and then we moved onto the next. Jumanji was just a plain simple cardboard box with a simple board. Their were so many board games back then. I think it would blow a lot of kids minds today.

Most of my tabletop game experiences with Kickstarter have been pretty pleasant. Exploding Kittens, Adorable Pandaring, Secret Hitler, not to mention the upcoming Binding of Issac and Trogdor games (though maybe I should knock on wood for that) but only two games really stood out to me as bad...the first is Big Angry Monsters, a Kickstarter campaign I was so interested in...I backed it twice...and it failed...twice. It's weird though 'cause it seemed like he was doing stuff right, it just didn't get any traction. The second if Thug Life, which had two campaigns. The first asked for a whopping $75,000. Naturally it failed, only raising about $11,000, but they did do a second one where they really revamped the game in a way that looks to be for the best, only asking for $5,000 and raised well over $13,000. Apparently that one is still going pretty smoothly, with an update as recent as two weeks ago that things are moving forward to...I guess that one isn't a failure, just sort of a neat story. Good luck on your eventual game, Slopes. I actually started making a campaign for a tabletop game once, but I never finished my alpha build of the game and didn't want to launch the project without some cool art or prototypes to show for it.

You should check the Heroquest 25 Anniversary campaign, that one could get a 15 minute video by its own. Problem is, is a Spain kickstarter so the majority of info probably is in spanish. It is way too long of a story to tell here, but boy it has everything. Even the kickstarter website (Lanzanos) scammed the backers after the original kickstarter creator scammed them. Legal actions has been taken in the past by individuals, but this month an association has been founded by backers to sue as a collective.

The last bit I heard, Dionisio (the creator of the kickstarter) left the place where they were creating the game (which was a rent), devastated. They took (steal) everything, even electrical panels, and they owe 60.000 euros for rent/damages. Take a look at "Darkness Sabotage" from Dethrone Games. It is another one that looks like it would fit in on this list. A really well put together campaign that has some great visuals and videos, even some great looking prototypes. There was some weird stuff at the start with the pricing, but the creator changed a few things and the campaign ended up being pretty massive at over $250,000. At first there were regular updates and the creator seemed to really be invested in making things great, but as time went by, the updates became less regular. Months would go by with nothing, then he would pop in, apologize for the delay and get back into posting nice looking updates. After nearly a year of this, the backers found out that the game had barely even begun production and many things were still in the design phase, leading him to admit that things had been delayed for probably at least another year. Over the course of the following year, updates again became sporadic and finally, there has yet to be a single post or even login from the creator in over 3 months. Numerous backers have tried to contact him and many have filed disputes with their credit card companies and government agencies to try and get their money back. Sucks too because it really looked like a cool game. I have around $400 invested in it myself that I will likely never see, sadly.

When it finally hit Kickstarter, the art looked like crap and there was no sign Whedon's approval for the project. Later, the Kickstarter was shut down after lots of criticism. The designers were hoping that if the project got funded, the Whedons would be so impressed that they would grant them the license of the game. Incompetence at its finest.

That whole Valley Games thing really doesn’t make sense to me... if they owed Phil approx.$255,000, asked for only $30,000 on Kickstarter, but got just shy of $340,000 then shouldn’t they have been able to do SOMETHING with the project? I know there are legal fees and there was the other guy that took them to court but they should have been able to pay Phil back... they should have tried to do installments but even if he refused and they had to do it all at once they still should have had enough to do something with the games the received funds for on Kickstarter so their backers received what they paid for, then with the proceeds they received from sale from all the games they had on the market they would have been able to settle up with the other guy as well. Even if they found out they needed more than $30,000 they had over $300,000 more than that so there is NO reason why they shouldn’t have been able to make everything work. I can’t figure out how they screwed up so bad. It sounds like flat out terrible management or the intention to take the money and run from the get go... or (and I do realize they pretty much go hand in hand) both. It’s disgusting. I don’t understand why Kickstarter allows things like that to happen. They should be perused legally by Kickstarter on behalf of the backers or something. The guy jetting off to Australia to throw his hands up and continue living his life is insane. I really can’t wrap my head around how they received SO much money over their goal in that campaign and couldn’t figure out a way to to pull themselves out of the hole they had essentially voluntarily jumped in. Maybe I’m missing something but it seems like they just about had a get out of jail free card handed to them but chose not to use it. I just...... HOW?!?! WHY?!? WTF?!?

Did you ever look at the HeroQuest boardgame Kickstarter from 2014 (I think)? It ultimately went to a European crowd funder in Spain, I believe. The licensing issues were fascinating, and lead to be being suspended in short order. Given the nostalgia value of the original board game it could be a popular one to cover.

Nah, it's sheer coincidence. It's like that one time I was playing Auto Modellista & enjoyed using the Skyline R30... Then a couple days later, I found a Hot Wheels model (in the original red & black colors) at my local Wal-Mart.

Usually, these happen to me quite rarely... Yet again, I wouldn't bet that there might be a game in the veins of the Dark Cloud games, anytime soon. Anyways, there IS another sheer finding of a Hot Wheels car, this time I was playing HW: Turbo Racing. I went to a hobby shop from outta town, where they sell old HW cars, most of them are packaged. Two of the cars in-game are the Cat-A-Pult & Lakester, and I managed to find both of them... But only the Lakester had it's original red color like in the game.

Completely forgot +AlphaOmegaSin was in this video right until I heard the word "Fuck". I've watched so many of his videos and his pronunciation of that word when he's being sarcastic, is so distinctive.

That third guy reminds me a lot of my former roommate. He made a board game many moons ago that was moderately successful, but he's notoriously lazy and hasn't done anything since. I mentioned the idea of a kickstarter to him, since he just had a kid and really needs the money. He liked the idea, but it's been two years now and nothing ever came of it. To be honest, maybe that's for the best...even if he _was_ funded, there's no way he'd ever deliver.

But there already is a board game using hexes that has strong sci-fi and roleplaying elements. It's called Twilight Imperium IV.

2:20 This song... it's giving me like, nostalgia for some reason. It's gotta be from something, right? Does anyone know what this song is? I feel like I know it really well.

Seriously, Alpha needs to legit be a voice actor. I loved the voices he did when he did his rant videos!

Kickstarter: I need a lot of money to develop my game but I'm not going to tell you anything about it. My response: come back when you actually have something to talk about then...Next!
