Happy Halloween Special!
Sorry this is so late. I tried my best to pump this thing out as fast as possible. I guess even with all my experience, I have limits to what I can do in just 2 days. I really hope the quality didn't suffer. It probably did... Lesson learned, do not try to make videos in the span of 2 days during the busy season of work; it will be the bane of your sanity.
Sorry, things have just been hectic for me lately. The Marine Corps birthday is coming up, and this is around the time when the band is called up to perform at ceremonies all around the country, so my schedule is suffering greatly.
You might be wondering why this is not just video games or movies. Well, I tried doing a list of things that scared me in video games or movies specifically, but I couldn't come up with 10 good ones, or just 5 that I could talk about extensively. And I'm ranking them on how much I remember being frightened by them when I was younger, and how long it took me to watch them again after I went through a "Pull-the sheets-over-your-head" phase.

Honestly, what scares me most about SA-X is *THE FACE WHEN IT TURNS TO LOOK AT THE SCREEN.** like, that thing is something samus isnt. SELF AWARE. It stares the player down like "I'm coming for Samus, and then I'll get to you." And the NOISE that plays. AND THEN THE ZOOM IN ON IT'S FACE. *EUGH.*
@Karlz1212
@Karlz1212 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, one of the things I’m most scared in media is self aware characters Because even when things get bad, you at least have the comfort of being safe behind the screen But with self aware characters? They know you’re there, and even the security of the fourth wall won’t save you from their torment I remember the first time I encountered SA-X, and how it kept staring at me Not at Samus. At *ME* It was as if it was telling me "I know you’re there, I know you’re the one calling the shots. And even though I can’t hurt you, I can just torture you just the same"
@michaelpopowich5095
@michaelpopowich5095 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's what gets people a freaky fourth wall break with alarming sound accompanying it and yet its true form when you finally get to its boss fight is a bit creepy but it's funny that before this fight you either had to run like hell when you hear or see it or if you had the ice beam you'd freeze it then run like mad

Jason Whitmore It was more for teenagers for children but they have released a much toned down version of Watership here. Cutting out most of the gore and blood. (At least in England) But if you watch Felidae (which is for adult not kids at all!) you'll think Watership Down is teletubbies compared.

@ragepoweredgamer
@ragepoweredgamer 10 жыл бұрын
Some numbnuts said the SA-X wasn't scary on here. This was my reply: You're ten years old. You're playing your own personal Gameboy Advance with a little Wormlight you got last week because your last 3 broke. You are playing this great side-scrolling RPG you just got, and you see the pupilless eyes of the SA-X. You know it's going to be a boss late in the game. You WANT to kill it. Then, you're following it. You're thinking "Please don't find me, please don't find me, please don't find me." Then the power bomb goes off and for a split second, you think it's all over. You follow behind him, but fall through the pit blocks! Your life flashes before your eyes as you panic, unable to escape this boss as he freezes you and screw attacks horizontally at you with the deathly green glow. Then, you die. After another attempt, you're through it, but that ambient music will haunt you forever as the noise you hear when shit is about to hit the fan and you're going to have to run like hell. Then you have your run in in sector 5 (NOC) and have to power bomb to get away from him, which isn't that bad. You get to time your movement and get away quickly. Then... You just freed up the auxiliary power supply from Yakuza. You're in desperate need of SOMEthing to get the power back, as you feel surprisingly helpless with no recharge rooms or hatches open, and these powerful creatures are everywhere. Then you go through a morph ball tunnel and hear the ONE thing that could make it worse: those footsteps. You roll forward to get out of the cramped space and stand up thinking "Where is it? Where the FUCK is it?!" With nothing else to do, you move forward and hit another pitblock, which is already a GBA jumpscare, but you land right in front of him. You desperately run and get out of the room, looking for a place to hide, but what do you find? Walls. Walls upon walls and jumps that are making SA-X catch up to you. You can't freeze it, you can't harm it, and as ou run for your life, an ice beam hits you and you're dead again. Then you're back to the ominous music in the main reactor silo as you make your way back to see the dreaded clone again, and every time you enter that room, those footsteps is all you will hear, accompanied by that simple yet fear-inducing bass tone. You stop as you want to plan out your moves ahead of time, so you can hopefully not die this time, but secretly, you're just buying time that you don't have to deal with the 2003 16-bit Slenderman, using anything as an excuse. Wiping off your hands, adjusting that incandescent Nyko light you have in your link cable slot, even just changing positions so you can focus more. As you do this, you notice something. The footsteps stop. Then they start again. They stop, then start again. That's when you realize: it's not looking for you, it's HUNTING for you.

caleb holland Maturity really has nothing to do with it; even the most mature of people can be disturbed by something. And while I am slightly curious about it, if seeing those clips even briefly was enough to unsettle me, I'm not sure it'd be wise to watch the whole movie. But I've considered it, at least.

The movie is actually pretty good! I first saw it on these "scary things for kids" videos and I thought it would be really awesome to see bunnies fight with blood and gore all over the place.But it's a mature and well thought out movie, it's just not for kids. And it has like only 4 or 5 scenes in the movie that have blood, it's really not that much.
@pinkduskstone1543

Same here. Whenever Jumanji was on TV or I found it in a video store, I absolutely had to watch it. The thing is, none of the animals or anything that we actually see in the movie frightened me all that much, but something we only hear about did. Alan's monologue when the children accuse him of being to scared to finish playing the game and he tells them of the sleepless nights he spent in the jungle surrounded by nocturnal predators really unnerved me. The music and delivery of his lines went a long way towards making it the scariest scene in the movie for me.

Oh man, that final one, that gave me a CHILL when you revealed it. That was terrifying to me too. But what scared me most oddly about him, was that when I first saw Neverending Story, my TV had subtitles turned on. Now you remember the old-fashioned subtitles for VHS, with the black background and white writing? For some reason... Gmork's subtitles were the same green tint as his eyes. I was so freaking scared, it was like reality itself was warping to have this creature come out of the TV and rip me apart.

+Jayden Newell While it didn't scare me, it really did disturb me as a kid.It's violent, brutal moments like that in the show (which there are many more of in its cut and especially uncut versions, on top of a lot of other things) that make you realize how Dragonball Z wasn't really a kid's show, being instead more of a show for all age groups. It's even more coincidental because it was one of the only episodes that I watched of the show while I was a kid until I later on, as a young adult, checked out both the entire original and the new Kai vesions and found both (especially Kai) to be great shows.

Shoot them, they crumble. Creature after creature. Then you get to find out what happened to them. And they give you TONS of straight out space to use the speed booster! Oh...but it catches up to you, and you can't escape....then it's your turn..... Edit: Hrm. I just watched a video of that portion, and it's VASTLY different than I recall. How odd.

10. That scene. That one scene where he drinks a guy on scene, is more than enough to be on this list, if not higher (I know why it's not but still). TFS version is a more tame version. 9. The last one was kinda hilarious! 8. Why was so many children's movies were so damn terrifying!!! 7. It's even more terrifying if you get the stupid idea to face it, and realize it can kill you almost instantly! 6. Yea you got that pretty much right there! 5. Let's watch a movie about bunnie-OH DEAR GOD WHAT THE HELL!!!>?!?!?? It's rabbits! Getting slaughtered! Not murdered, slaughtered!!! By the way, this movie was a success in Britain and won awards! 4. I can kinda see it being scary, but it becomes annoying after awhile. 3. It kinda reminds me if Blackheart's stage in Marvel Super Heroes had better animation. 2. Wallmasters scare me shitless even today. And the Forest Temple's music is easily the scariest. You can hear children screaming in the song. 1. ...Excuse me while I change my pants...

Just seeing them again with that music raised gooseflesh, and I've only seen the Neverending Story twice. Top tier freak factor.

Probably one of the scariest scenes from a disney film when I was a kid has to be the donkey transformation scene from Pinnochio. The idea of a little boy suddenly transforming into a donkey for the rest of his life, simply for being a trouble making jackass really scared the heck out of me. Even today, that scene still creeps me out.

@@AzureMoebius22 It really isn't. He loses a lot of the intimidation factor and just becomes another pompous 'I am undefeatable, mwahaha' villain that loses a lot of the creepy factor. In the abridged series he gets more cocky as he gets powerful yes, but the creepy intimidation is there. Basically in canon, Cell becomes more powerful but more boring. In the Abridged series, he becomes more powerful and more unhinged, he just hides it behind jokes.

I agree with you on the Forest Temple being scarier than the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time. The atmosphere and the music just set the tone for it perfectly. In the Shadow Temple, you expect it to be creepy and that kind of downplays the scary atmosphere. You don't expect the Forest Temple to be creepy and that's why it has that reputation. It's a combination of the Poes, the Stalfos, Wolfos, and its secluded location that gives it the ancient and ominous feeling, almost like you're exploring a haunted mansion. Even the boss is a phantom of your worst enemy. The temple is pretty easy to get lost in too if you're playing through it for the first time (happened to me in my first playthrough as a kid), which might also give it a creepy feeling. Not to mention this is the first dungeon in the game that we're introduced to the Wallmasters, which are paranoia fuel in their own right and not that great for someone who has anxiety (like me). I remember when I was a kid playing OoT I didn't want to venture forward anymore after I had my first encounter with a Wallmaster. When it dropped down and grabbed me I screamed and threw my controller before bolting to shut my console off. It scared me so much that I stopped playing for months. Ever since then I've just been so paranoid about Wallmasters whenever I encounter them in this game, and paranoia is rampant in the Forest Temple. A lot of veteran players just note "something about it" that specifically makes them want to turn around and make sure nothing is behind them. And most of them will agree it's the threat of being snagged by a Wallmaster.

For some reason the Shadow Temple scared me most, probably because of what I saw in the temple. Blood stained walls/floors, torture devices, the terrifying Dead Hand, and the MUSIC. I never thought of the Forest Temple to be creepy, I only thought of it as being mysterious and lonely.
@TheChaosDragoness
@TheChaosDragoness 7 жыл бұрын
Legend ofSm4sh180 Blood and gore alone don't do much for me, however I get anxious and paranoid very easily, and when you're both isolated and paranoid your mind begins to play tricks on you, which is why the Forest Temple gets me with things like the Wallmasters and the ersatz music that just has you on edge. However the things that got me the most as a kid in the Shadow Temple were Dead Hand, the atonal music, and Bongo Bongo. Everything else just didn't do it for me. However even nowadays as a grown woman the Forest Temple still scares the absolute hell out of me while the Shadow Temple just isn't creepy to me at all anymore. See I developed a very offbeat personality as I grew up and also gained a fondness for the darker aspect of life and human nature, things like these were more cool than creepy to me once I got past ten years old. It's the psychological aspect of horror that gets me more because nothing is scarier to me than looking through the eyes of madness. Replacing physical threats with psychological ones (e.g. madness, paranoia, etc) and replacing overt displays of horror like the peek-a-boo corpse with more subtle, creepy details is what unsettles me the most. This is also why movies like Silence of the Lambs and the Japanese versions Ju-On: The Grudge and Ring scare me WAY more than most other horror films because your mind turning against you as you descend further into madness is more scary to me than gallons of blood being dumped onto the floor in a slasher film or someone getting limbs hacked off. This is also why I'm really digging Negan in the new season of Walking Dead, where the zombies don't scare me all that much, Negan brings a HUGE amount of psychological horror to Rick and his gang.

Watership Down is not a kids-movie, the book is pretty much just as bloody as the film and it is almost sad that there are some people that hate this movie just because it happens to be a movie about rabbits that isn't meant for little kids. I mean it has a great story, loveable characters, great drama, stunning animation and probably the most beautiful ending I have ever seen in an animated film outside Disney. If you really want to see a creepy animated film that's definitely not for kids, then check out Felidae. The entire film is on KZbin and anyone who gets mislead from the cute Disney-style imagery at the casing with the cat at the front and have not read the novel it was based on will be traumatized for days (luckily I was prepared and watched it at an age where one could fully understand and appreciate the material).

SIlent Hill music. Props to a masterful horror series, at least in the beginning. In order: 10: Cell. Yeah. He's pretty creepy! Especially once he drinks people. And Team Four Star make him even more terrifying. *Shudders.* That buildup was good, at the start. 9: ...Rats be a bit scary. Also, excellent jokes on this one. 8: I never watched this one. Also, Disney has done okay with Star Wars. Fans are being overdramatic though. 7: Just... YEAH. It's you... only heartless, and ENDGAME STRONG. And your bag of spilling just broke wide open! 6: I was old enough that I could ignore the nightmare fuel. But... yeah. Terrifying, if you think about it. 5: Watership Down: Traumatizing unsuspecting kids for YEARS. 4: Didn't play, but... yeah. Creepy. 3: ...I must have been rather immune to nightmare fuel as a kid. Also, Black Cauldron was pretty scary for Disney, especially if you consider how the Black Cauldron has to be turned off. 2: I have REALLY got to play through the remake of Ocarina of Time one of the days. 1: I was too young when I saw Neverending Story, and too old when I came back to it, and also suffered Hype Backlash. It had little effect on me. But YEAH. Gmork being AIIIIEEEEE! levels of scary makes perfect F-yaaay-g sense to me now!

SA-X still scares the hell out of me. I first played Metroid Fusion on my 3DS thanks to the Ambassador Program. I was in high school at the time, maybe freshman or sophomore year. I would usually play later in the evening, usually when it's dark outside and my lights are off, and I always used my headphones to eliminate background noise. Needless to say, those footsteps still scare me enough to make me hold my breath, especially when I hear the sound effect when I'm alone in a dark room. Hell, even my own footsteps in Fusion scared me sometimes. It's crazy to think that mere footsteps can get such a reaction out of people.

This was excellent. As for the Endless Staircase, that didn't scare me in the slightest - I loved it, but the reason is probably the infinity presented by the 'shepherd tone' (it's not a single tone but that's the name given to the auditory trick) combined with the discomforting notes that accompany it (which are very similar to those from Super Mario World's ghost houses) give a sense of being lost in the endlessness. For me this ceases to be scary the moment you turn around and see that the starting point is right there - although this itself is creepy, it's also comforting; if you looked down and saw the floor in the distance and ran towards it only to find that it...never...quite...got any closer...yeah then I'd feel screwed.

+Cassidy Whitfield Actually, WormWood's (I think that was his name) warren was a representation of Totalitarian goverments overall and how they all rule by fear and brute force rather than leadership and inspiration. That's probably why all of Wormwood's troops and residence look identical to him, because Totalitarianism doesn't allow for any sense of individuality from its subjects. Wormwood's warren could also very well have metaphorical ties to the Nazi ideal (or as we know monstrosity) of the master race, as a lot of the clips there seem to strongly suggest that.

Yeah, Watership Down (number 5) I didn't see it until after reading the book several times, probably the only reason why it didn't scare so much as disappoint me. That said, is it scary that some of these examples didn't scare me so much as... excite me... when I was a kid? I was never scared of the big demon in Fantasia, he was just a large winged Darth Vader wannabe with powerful music. I think, of the things on the list, the one thing that scares me the most, is Cell, when he's not reveling in his own power and destruction he is coldly and methodically sucking the life out of people. Then again, that's basically the formula for a good horror moment. Basic undertone, slow build up, strange and distorted clues/results, discordant and horrifying tones prior, during and continuing after "the reveal", and the monster itself must be kept surrounded/saturated by evil and deadly motifs. Wow, after all that I've gotta wonder, how the heck does FNAF even scare people?!

The first one where Cell sucked the man out of his clothes was super scary I'm glad I never saw that episode as a kid that would've gave me nightmares for years! I was lucky! I'm sorry you had to see that as a kid. I am confused about one thing though why didn't Piccolo do anything to stop Cell why he didn't stop Cell from sucking that man out from his clothes? Was he scared stiff? Was he too scared to do anything? Why didn't he stop Cell?

I couldn't agree with you more, when i first watched "The neverending story" I was petrified of the Gmork the way he had that creepy feel and just the thought of pure evil was enough to make a grown man scream holy hell enough said

Nobody is gonna believa me, but I swear I predicted your no. 1. Well not so much predicted as mentioned in my head a few seconds before your reveal. I was thinking about mentioning Gmork in the comments when my eyes grew wide that it was your no. 1 pick as well. Great list, my man.
