This old dog did pick up more than a couple of new or refresher tips!!! Thanks as always! Rich................................PS, was messing with a selection with an expanded lasso selection tool and once I refined the selection I had that white glow around it. You had shown a use of the burn tool to fix that. For kicks and giggles I messed around with the "Auto haze removal" and it took away all the white!!!!! Food for thought, take a look at that and see how you like it?? Just had to take a shot at another old dog to see if he knew this trick!!! (Oppps!!) Have fun!

Thanks Jackie! I have the Creative Suite but I tend to mostly use Photoshop Elements for lots of reasons, with the biggest one being that it is a lot faster than Photoshop. I will always admit that Adobe Photoshop is the best image editing program on the planet, but for what I do on a daily basis Photoshop Elements is a lot better.

@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge Жыл бұрын
Thanks Louie! Welcome aboard! The way I like to think of layers is like a deck of cards. You put different things on different cards with the top of the deck being the top of the layer stack. The bottom card is solid, the rest of the cards can be seen through to some degree, either a solid object on a transparent card, or a card that is partially transparent. That really is all there is to it. I use layers to help separate things into different steps or stages, just helps with organization. Most things can be done on one layer, but it isn't as flexible that way.

hi, i have several separate images i want to use the rectangle marquee to cut out and paste to a new single file question: whats the best way to get the marquee tool to be the same size on each image, can i do a last marquee size instant click?
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge Жыл бұрын
Select the rectagular marguee took then in the Options panel at the bottom click the drop down that says Normal and change that to Fixed Size, theh type in the size you want. There is no option for single click last size used. I would approach this differently. First on your project file I would put in guide lines to show where I wanted the images placed. Then I would bring in the images into that fileand then resize them to fit in the correct place, then I would use the rectangular marquee along with the guidelines to select the areas you want shown and use that selection to create a layer mask for each area. I just did this for a recent thumbnail. I will do a fast video later today showing how to do this. If you don't want the images in a perfect grid you can reposition them after making the layer mask.
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge Жыл бұрын
Hi, I was sitting here and thinking about other ways to do this and there is a real easy one. Set the marquee on your first image to the size you want. Now make a new layer and fill that selection with black. This gives you a new layer with a black rectangle the size you want for the marquee. Now since that is still selected go to Edit/Copy, or use the ctrl+c keyboard shortcut to copy that rectangle to the clipboard. Now go up to File/New and the new file dialog box will already be sized correctly to match that black rectangle. Make that new file and paste the rectagle into that file and then save. You now have a black rectangle file at the exact size you want for your selection. Now paste that file/image into your other pictures, set that layer to something like 30% and move it around your image to get just the right position. Then ctrl+click on the thumbnail for that rectangle layer to make it a selection, hide that layer and copy that area from your picture.

Photoshop Elements does have Adobe Camera Raw, which is a little RAW editor that can be accessed through Elements. But Elements itself does not work with RAW files.

I'm just about to purchase this on sale. Is there a way to quickly change the formats of a large number of photos once done editing, in order to archive them on an external hard drive? What format is best for long term archiving?
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge Жыл бұрын
The best archive format is whatever final format you want the image in. If you need to be able to go back and do more editing then the Photoshop Elements psd format is good. If you are finished editing and won't do any more editing then something like jpg or png should work fine. If you are editing the images then just save them as you go to your final format and you won't have to do any batch stuff. But there is a batch tool in File/Process Multiple Files
@dystoniaify
@dystoniaify Жыл бұрын
@HTG George Thanks. I currently have everything in JPG. I need the batch tool. I have years of photos to go through, and don't plan on editing them all. But I will likely want to save everything on my external hard drives.
