Agreed- thanks! Always good advice to consult your financial advisers. I mainly want people to consider simplifying, so if that means just putting the cards away and not using them (instead of closing them), then that is great too.

I was thrown into this career of bookeeping. I've made so many mistakes letting bills fall through the cracks. My best tool is using two different systems: an accounting software, and a spreadsheet that can determine the due date. Two different systems make it easier to keep track, remind yourself, and self audit. Thank you for the tips

I encourage all of my hands on organizing clients to have every bill on automatic bill payment. This eliminates so much stress and the need to have a bill paying station. If a person is diligent about paying off their credit cards each month they can have all of their bills directly put on their credit card and only have one payment per month.That is what I do. You get your airmile points too!

You are right it can be bad to apply for others, but it can also be bad to have too many accounts open. I always advise to consult a CPA or financial adviser Thanks for the reminder safepethaven.

I have to say, good point! There are those who are simply not at all PC savvy or are simply too wary to approach paying their bills this way. Pardon the tunnel vision.

I pay online, and put monthly payments in ziplock bag and a bag for each month.

Wonderful tips! Very practical. I do have the accordion method for bills each calendar year but at the end of the year I separate them all out into individual account folders so I can track how each account is doing, so it's a combination of both methods. Thanks so much!

You would be surprised, Robin. There are a lot of people who write out checks and envelopes by hand each month.

When you use the accordion file folder do you place the bills in by date received,due date or payment date?

When you close your credit cards, It will hurt your credit score....don't do it without checking with the credit bureaus.
@adamsaldana54626 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. It will show it as a closed account, lowering the total # of accounts, but it will retain the average time of accounts being open. But at the end of the day, I would never cancel it.

Closing accounts and canceling accounts will have the same negative effects on your credit score. So you are agreeing with me!!?.!!

Sorry but canceling one's credit cards, then applying for others can shoot yourself in the foot. FICO scores are calculated on several factors incl. the total no. of credit accounts, how many are open/active, AND the RATIO of available credit to income/debts. It sounds counter-intuitive to keep/keep open & active credit cards one won't be using in the future once they're replaced. But that's the craziness of our financial systems in this country these days. Pls consult your CPA or fin. advisor.
