I love that, if you want a Vampire-centric World of Darkness, it's perfect to have the source of the myth of Odin be an ancient vampire, and have any spirits claiming to be Odin in Werewolf/Mage (or even Changeling) just be echoes in the human consensus/subconscious.

Longer view " Frenzy " Woodin or WO'Tan and sometimes Woo'Tan fought the fire giant/jotun Sutr " black " ash soot. You have a big guy, painted in black ash wash, and have an oak staff wrap in raw hide and wetted down with render animal fat, which was lite in flames. " flaming great sword of fire." .. and the myths created from there. With Mage Awakening, it has clearer rules in harvesting manna from someone and creating a circle to store manna converted in to Essense to awaken a minor spirit and crafting it to a more powerful being. A 6dot/sphere Dream speaker currently known as Thysus can create spirits and minor gods. In one regard a mage hung himself from a tree to create a cairn locus and raise a spirit turn himself into a vampire.

Great vid man. Clan Gangrel are my favorite clan in VtM (with the Nosferatu coming in a close second) and your vid did the clan justice. With listing of Gangrel that really put the beast in the clan of beasts like Arnwulf, Xavier or Karsh/Jalan, but you also had less stereotypical Gangrel like Beckett, Morgan, or Woodstock which really gives a more nuanced view on clan which a lot of people miss unfortunately. But seriously your vids are criminally underrated and you deserve more views, like i don't think anyone is doing vids on characters in the WoD, which is something i for one would like to see more of.

Congratulations on the vampires of Clan Gangrel. Clan Gangrel are one of my favorite clans because they have these animalistic behavior rival to the werewolves (aka Garou or Lupines). One of my favorite from the Top Ten Vampires of Clan Gangrel is Enkidu the Noah. He's name after one of the mythical characters of the Babylonian mythology and King Gilgamesh's both rival and friend. And he appears as a Lancer servant from Fate/Strange Fake. And the Typhonian Beast has other names in Egyptian mythology called Set, sha or Tyhponic Beast. And he looks resemble a gargoyle.

My headcanon is that Karsh and Jalan Aajav are a product of a Dual Form ability of Dark Ages vampire named Qarakh. He became a 4th generation vampire after diablerizing Ventrue methuselah Alexander of Paris and split himself into two weaker vampires to play both sides in Jyhad.

Karsh vs. Jalan Aajav would be a battle for the ages. post-video edit: I never actually considered the possibilty that Karsh/Aajav are the same person, (or that they are dual forms of one immensely powerful gangrel!) and it only makes them even cooler in my opinion. Great work!

Gangrel have a twisted lifestyle that rubs shoulders with werewolf, not that they get along with werewolves and those gangrel with Humanity 7 or Path of the Beast in tune with nature have no Wrym taint. Gangrel if .. played .. right will spend way too much time running or fighting against Wrym taint humans and other monsters in the forests outside of the cities. My game shop had enough players, the storyteller ran gangrel as soap opera side stories as others step outside for a quick smoke. Running bare foot through the forest night's and sleeping through the day in the middle of rivers and lakes until they can meld into stone for safety. Progress of the forest country gangrel, .. Year one. survival one dot. werewolf lore, one dot ( staying out of their area and not pizzing them off.) Wrym lore, one dot ( learning to run from those monsters.) religion lore, one dot ( just starting to learn covering all the strangeness of the forest.) Stander athleteics for hunting and running for your life. Year two. survival two dots, ( life is getting fun and going hungry isn't a problem.) werewolf lore two dots ( talking at a safe distance, and acting like a rabbit/ fox during .. uh .. mock hunts. Well the werewolf are not activity trying to hunt you down and kill you.) Wrym lore, two dots ( hunting the wrym tainted humans and monsters for sport, or setting them up for the werewolves to take them down.) Religion lore, two dots ( enough to gain a dot in some form of magic. If early raised in eastern martial arts use the hand book Kindred of the East for yang/yin magic and the rituals that don't require blood to active.) discipline Equilibrium allows the user to talk to local spirits kind of like Chinese version of Japanese Shinto or Western traditions of the Dream Speaker spirit talk. Years three. (Changeling the Lost ) has rules where mortals and even vampires can just walk into the Hedge and getting trap there. " Search " skill to find an exit which could take a month or two. Then you have to " Survive " long enough to find and exit. Following with having a dot in " Wryd " to open the exits from the Hedge. Most humans develop their Wryd just by soaking up the energies of the Hedge and eating the goblin fruit and the other small Hedge animals. Earning the base average of 3 to 5xp per month, a character could be in the Hedge half a year before they could get out under their own power. Depending on the game shops story tellers and DMs, a country gangrel with a strong Lust or over impulse could end up in the Hedge in their first or second year of being a kindred. Also due to the background lore of the Fianna werewolves with ties to fairies, a second or third year Fianna learns to Run the Hedge and has a dot of Wryd with seasonal court and goblin contract, why .. just because. We just like to mix the Blade movies into Hellboy. Stranger the better.

​​​​@@Razamaniac except he was, as Durga Sin, a Ranvos Elder/Methusalah was instructing Vlad Dracul (his father) on how to counter the Tzimisce before Vlad was born, and Dracula himself was an Independent Ghoul (with Durga Sins guidance that eventually lead him to the Innconu so young) for over 20 years before Lumbock was forced to embrace him. Also his Sword is a magical artifact he only used after he was embarrassed that allows him to drink the blood it has slashes through, even to diabloare. And he had that as a moral along with his axes, a small army of independent ghouls. Vlad has a bunch of legends around him, but when you really read into the lore it makes sense why he's done what he's done. He may be Tzimisce, but he is basically the adopted grandchild of the last Ravnos Methusalah active, then an actual adopted childe.

Gangrel are very good in vtmb they are very versatile put some points into sneaking and use Ravens of Animalism 1 to distract opponents you can't sneak past and get Protean at least to 3 while going unarmed since Protean transforms Gangrel into the beast and his claws do aggravated damage with unarmed wich gives buff to damage and Fortitude which helps soak incoming damage they can be absolute killers in short you want stealth? Yes You want Physical? OOOOOH YES Other clans lean on one or the other Stealth Malkavian and Nosferatu Physical Brujah And there are Tremere who are Tremere I guess

Also once gangrel reach a given level in the path of the beast, they act more beastlike. I had a gangrel with a cat like mutation and at an Elysium a harpy insulted me in an overly polite way. Me rolling dice, " Did I take that as a friendly complement or did that just fly over my gangrel head ?" Story teller, " you found a new friend. Do you want to give her a gift ?" Me, " Yeah like a house cat, I bring her a dead bird back to her within a few minutes as a loving sign of affection." Story teller, " Start making hunting rolls to find the biggest pigeon in the area." 2.) Dog eat Dog, .. gangrel ate a stray dog which turn out to be a bone gnawer kindfolk. As a lupus bone werewolf, the stray female husky the gangrel eat was the werewolf's mother. Now it's war in the back alleys. a.) Street game, dog dodging traffic. Gangrel and werewolves in lupus form weave in and out of traffic seeing who is last to get hit by a moving truck. b.) Power tripping Sabbat just moved into town as the new Prince demanding a full display of power submission. Me, " You want all the gangrel & nosferatu to offer full display to your rule ?" Player as the new prince, " Yes ! I want it done by tomorrow night !" Next night, with the gangrel and nosferatu having dice in Animalism. City hall was surrounded by every rat, pigeon, dog, cat, and police horse in the city. Along with city hall full of millions of insects. c.) Nosferatu and gangrel said to someone who thinks they are important, " So we heard you have a roach, bedbug, and basic all around vermin problem in your haven." Self important azz hole, " I don't have a vermin problem ! " Nosferatu and gangrel just look at each other.

I think that two things really hurt the Gangrel as a solid player option.which is not to say that they are unplayable, just that I think a few small things could be better. The weakness is kind of silly and that a lot of the lore of the Clan pushes them to lone wolf style play in a social game. They always say that Gangrel have a closer connection/understanding of The Beast, but there really isn't anything to support that. Gaining animal features doesn't do squat for understanding an inner demon. I think a better weakness, more appropriate to being close to the Beast (nor beasts), might be something like Gangrel can not resist Frenzy. Instead, regardless of Path/Road, they automatically Ride the Wave instead, (using Self-Control if needed). This allows for non-Sabbat Gangrel to care less about Frenzing, or rather getting stuck with a pigs tail afterwards, and actually allows them to commune with their Beast, and direct it.

@@josephbeckett2330 Problem is core players' book versus what is cover in the clan books. OWoD clan books Gangrel covered Riding the Wave better than what v5 core book did. My last game shop had more than a few debates/ arguments over the changes between the two styles of the editions game mechanics. Along with a given path grants bonuses on Empathy, along with how well you resist the beast/ ride the wave, and time in hibernation sleep. Also nit picking over Animalism ability where you Cowl the Beast using Empathy or Intimidation to terrorize everything around the gangrel. I had all my characters take Acting so even when my PC isn't in full frenzy, everyone failing their Empathy vs Bluff dice rolls think my Gangrel was in Full Wasil mod in combat. Beside after watching enough " Wild Planet " and such shows, predators fending off other predators seek to sound as big and dangerous they can be. And since my group runs mostly Sabbat games, my gangrel learns Tzimisce fleshcraft shape change to have their own War Form. One guy had cross features of a spider/scorpion so I drew up a real freaky picture of him, real nightmare fuel. 2.) Contradictions within OWoD. a.) Wolves are social creatures and so are humans. Due to vampires being blood predators they have a temporary fight vs flight reaction when coming across other vampires new and old. But if they don't listen to their Instinct they can get ambush by other vampires. But .. still .. being human by years of social conditioning kindred still need human or some form of social contact. Be it Nosferatu rats or stray cats and the gangrel animal companions. Now you have the kindred that Wasil into the Beast, which being mentioned in the setting source books are known to fall into packs. Hunting and denning together during the day. In the core books once a kindred Wasils they become a lone blood bloating drinking murderous monster controlled and friend to no one. In the supplements they fall into packs .. for combat hunting drama for the player characters to deal with. Even if a kindred falls to their beast and can no longer have the higher mental state to use disciplines, drive a car or use a phone let alone have speech. Their stealth, athletic, and brawling skills used in hunting will skill grow with each kill they make. Also it was mentioned vampires with high dot ranking in Animalism, Dominate, and Majesty can bend the Wasil to their Will. And it was mention that Eastern Europe Sabbat pack chapter house like to pit werewolves and the Wasil in cage fights. Not to uncommon to see a former Venture or Brujah Wasil wisp of a small female just tear the throat out of a 8ft tall muscle-bound werewolf, much to the surprise of the werewolf. 3.) Gangrel with different features from multiple animals usually two to three sometimes five times. Greek myths had some interesting human shape monsters made from combination of animals and then there is all those different fairy tales of the Fae and changelings. Part of the old gangrel clan books mention a given gangrel animal features is a clear sign as to which animals their Animalism revolves around.

I try to stay away from Clan Novels material (unless it's cool). Theo Bell staking Karsh after getting his ass kicked, his arm broken, and being held by the neck like a rabbit beggars belief. But, even accepting those events, Karsh's Protean would give him the ability to remove the stake, albeit very slowly.

My understanding is that BJD, but much more 5E has kind of gone out of its way to remove just about any Vampire older than a few hundred years from existence/play, pushing for a "it is now your time" playstyle. I might be wrong, as it seems difficult to actually get much actual 5E lore from what I can tell, but that is the impression I get.

@@josephbeckett2330 House rule, roll 2d10 for character age, then roll 2d10 for the number of years as a kindred and keep rerolling all tens. Also you could just roll one1d10 for which generation they are. Christ sakes, I went to roll the age of a vampire that was meant to be a recent ghoul and he turn into a 87 year old man and being over 700 years old. Played him off as an elder Tzimisce acting like a house butler cause he was just board for the past few centuries. That butler that jump at his own shadow was the master monster of the chapter house. He just lost interest in power and enjoy watching the younger children run around chasing after fleeting power.

Overall, it is your game, run Dracula as you want. My gaming shop ran a WW II campaign which lead into the U.S.S.R. Soviet era of Tzimisce and Shadow Lords fighting a social shadow war under communist control. In one game we had a Shadow Lord kinfolk punch a werewolf relative in full wolf man form with a silver weighted bass knuckle. And the werewolf had to check his rage cause the human .. out ranked .. him. 2.) My pass two game shops and the groups attended built Dracula up as the video game spoof and D&D Ravenloft Curse of Strahd character. With the whole witchcraft and zombie raising powerhouse, then ran him through WW II and figure out how he manages to live under the Soviet era. " The War with the Assimites controlling the Ottman Empire."

Pretty foolish that any recently embraced vampire (17 yrs) could kill a being like that. 4th Generation who lived for that many years. I get it, Vlad is the darling but that was dumb on a whole new level. No mortal (face it 17 years as a vamp and he isnt that much different from a mortal) would never be remotely comparable.

I have seen dice roll up in some pretty strange results over the years. I also seen UFC fighters moving back and forth, then one guy places his foot down at the wrong angle and his own momentum broke his shin. Along with guys slipping as they go to throw a punch and face plant themselves into the other guy's chest, resulting in a physical knock out. Then you have those crazy dice rolls results.

17 years as a vamp, embraced as a sixth gen and diablerized to the 5th. We already knew that Vlad was martial and powerful, but since the mortal LITERALLY BULLIED AND TORTURED HIS SIRE INTO EMBRACING HIM [OMG VLADS STORY IS STUPID AND GLORIOUS] But also taught him REAL WELL about how his powers work. Like buffing ones physical stats up to 7 dots, or healing up to like what 5 wounds at an expenditure of 5 blood per turn? And that doesn't cover disciplines he knew at the time.

It’s Xaviar. Ex-Ay-Vee-Ar. Not Javier. There lore videos are pretty entertaining. The only problem is, they’re out of date. Either you haven’t read Beckett’s Jyhad Diary and any of V5, or you’re choosing not to update the lore to include them, in which case they’re incomplete.
