Death of his series...but I guess the creators of Bulletstorm felt he wasn't done yet as he was added in the game's remastered rerelease as an extra mode replacing the main character with Duke Nukem. It wasn't anything special but it's funny hearing Duke Nukem wonder why the fuck he was pulled into a completely different game or why he's even involved. XD

I think the reason they gave Metroid to Team Ninja wasn't because they made DOA Xtreme, it was likely because Team Ninja is well known for their Ninja Gaiden series which is indeed their flagship.

Nintendo's handling of Metroid this past decade has been just as clueless as Disney's handling of Star Wars. It just doesn't get as much attention because Nintendo actually took the franchise back to the drawing board instead of holding to a release schedule and Nintendo isn't nearly the media juggernaut Disney is.

My personal favorite series out of the top 10 is Metroid. Its the only franchise on this list that was guaranteed a comeback. At least it's not getting the F zero treatment. Can't wait for Prime 4.

Hate to break it to you, but... due to how its development happened, things are looking grim. Either, Metroid Prime 4 will release at the end of the Switchs life span, meaning it will be a financial failure, or it will release on the next nintendo console as a launch title, meaning it will be a sort of guinea pig for that console.

Metroid on the other hand does not have that, so I dont know if they would actually use it as a launch title, given how risky it is with such an unknown franchise. Dont get me wrong, I want this game to be a killer app, to ship 10 million copies, but given how Nintendo has treated this franchise, I am very hesitant to think this will happen.

I'm honestly amazed Other M doesn't get the same kind of intense hostility directed towards it as something like The Last Jedi. Metroid fans didn't bully Samus's VA off the Internet or act like nothing from the game is salvageable to the same extent (even if mostly gameplay-wise). I also loathe how people act like the game's story was bad because it made Samus look weak - that insinuates that depicting weakness in a heroine is always bad writing which is beyond dumb.

Samus have post traumatic stress after see Ridly doesn't make sense. It works in the Manga because I think she beat Ridley yet?

Having some kind of weakness in a character (hero or heroine) is usually welcome, but in this case, fans thought that Other M's depiction of Samus was very out of character based on what fans had come to expect from her at that point.

Coming back to this video 2 years later, I am so glad that we are seeing a small resurface in Metroid. With Dread finally being released and the possibility of Prime 4 being released at some point (if we get any more confirmation of it, but it almost seems to be in development hell right now). It finally feels like the lack of metroid games is finally ending. No more waiting over 10 years for a new game with only 1 spin off and 1 remake to tie us over.

You know what's another sad case of franchise killer? Godzilla Unleashed. The long-awaited sequel to the critically-acclaimed Godzilla: Save the Earth and Godzilla:Destroy All Monsters fighting games from Pipeworks, this game was going to feature the largest roster to date, with many fan-favorites, a full story mode with your actions influencing how other monsters react to you, basically going all out. But the Wii version had mandatory motion controls and glitches galore. And the PS2 version was just a downgraded G:STE (that somehow felt more unfinished) with two new characters that were just clones with one being original on the Wii version. The series' lead developer has tried to launch a spiritual successor, Colossal Kaiju Combat, but even after a successful Kickstarter campaign it remains unfinished due to a stroke of bad luck including a fire destroying a lot of their work and the sudden passing of one of the devs.

A lot of shows are wasted on Cartoon Network, unfortunately. They'll gladly cancel an entertaining cartoon after two seasons and not give a new series a chance by only showing episodes at 6 am, but their beloved cash-cow cartoons? They'll play those ALL DAY, sometimes for several hours in a row.

Percival917 - From what I can recall Rare itself has pride in the legacy (especially since a bunch of former members would make a spiritual successor). It’s more like Microsoft that has the shame towards it which isn’t a surprise as them and non M rated games don’t see eye to eye most times.

I've got another franchise killer for you: Bloody Roar 4. Deliberately made to be the darkest game in the series in more ways than one (including being the first M-rated game in a series whose games had otherwise been rated T up until BR 4), emphasized its new characters (and Xion) over the characters on its roster who'd been established within the BR series for much, MUCH longer (and ignored most of their relationships to one another) and had laughably awkward voice acting and ill-fitting music besides. That, and it had a supernaturally themed story that almost completely betrayed any and all previously established BR lore (especially all the light sci-fi, zoanthrope DNA-themed stuff) for the sake of focusing on "Gaia," her dragon (and its "vessel," Ryoho), the "Unborn," and even the Nine-Tailed Fox Mana. To think, too, that I'm just scratching the surface of what was wrong with that game! Next thing you know, Hudson Soft--the developing company behind the Bloody Roar games--goes out of business not even nine years later and has its properties absorbed by Konami, and...to put it quite bluntly...no more BR games since.

Fortunately Fallout 76 didn’t kill the Fallout franchise. They gave 76 new life with endless content and made more stable to the point that it’s fun to play.

Here’s the issue: It doesn’t matter how much content you put in the game anymore. The game came out and was already a huge flop, and the Fallout 76 1st subscription made the situation even worse, especially when Outer Worlds was right around the corner that time. While 76 hasn’t outright killed the franchise as you’ve stated, it’s still on critical life support.

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly This game suffered greatly from rushed development. Full of glitches, lots of loading screens, and too short to even qualify as a full game. Universal tried to save the franchise with A Hero's Tale. While I found it pretty meh, it's still loads better than Enter the Dragonfly. However, its sales suffered greatly from what happened to the original franchise. After the damage done by Enter the Dragonfly, long time fans refused to try an og Spyro game that wasn't developed by Insomniac. That's what led to the TLOS reboot (which I'm a big fan of), and recently the franchise was revived by Toys for Bob, in the form of Reignited (I'm a big fan of that too).

The game didn't even NEARLY kill Spyro! Yes, it's a disaster, but the Spyro name stayed around long enough to be considered "alive." In fact, the only reason he is STILL alive is thanks to Skylanders. Admit it, if it weren't for that series, would Spyro still be considered relevant? (Pre- Reignited Trilogy, obviously.)

@@greatsageclok-roo9013 Actually, it's similar to the dmc story. No game in the original franchise since EtD was able to garner enough favor, until more than a decade later. I guess you see the reboots as the same franchise, but their styles are very different from the original, so I see them as different franchises. and there wasn't anything good for the original before Reignited, because of the damage done by EtD, similar to a few other entries on this list. Clearly the main difference between Spyro and dmc is that the latter hardly got any favoritism in the reboot. At least the Spyro rebooted franchises had big fanbases.

(Or something like that.) With the many Spyro communities (which unfortunately extends to the Crash Bandicoot fandom), it's all pretty much a reality. But yeah, at least Spyro still had his fanbases. Just a shame that none of them really get along.

I would put Skylanders Imaginators on my list, because Skylanders was slowly dying since Skylanders Trap Team and Skylanders Imaginators killed it for good with no hope of returning. I enjoyed Skylanders and find it underrated. The story is good in most games, the Skylanders are fun to play as, the level design is diverse, the music is awesome and the characters in the story are all unique and likeable. It does have you spend a lot of money in order to get all characters some levels are hidden behind expansion packs that you need to buy to get the level along with exclusive characters only available at expansion packs and getting the portals wired can be tedious, but it was fun and launched the Toys to Life genre. Skylanders Trap Team was when it starts to lose quality. The levels are mostly boring and the Traps were useless and you need to buy them separately and the new elemental expansion packs of the Light and Dark element was a waste. Trap Team costed the most money to get everything, which is bad, but considering that Activision made the franchise just shows that it loses popularity. Skylanders Imaginators was when the franchise was killed for being boring and not good. Story was a mess, NPC characters who were once likeable are now bad and have the Skylanders as Npc's, which although gave them voice acting also was a lazy way to make it. The levels are just bland, boring and just are bad. You need to backtrack on the map multiple times just to reach a new level. The Skylanders are decent, but the Creation Crystals are useless and a waste of money. The worst part is that it did some of the worst things that already happened since Skylanders began, putting Spyro and Crash Bandicoot characters using them to milk the games and kill these games as well until they got remastered trilogy games. The other is the cursed micro transactions and loot boxes. Why did they add this garbage? It only gives props to customize your own created Skylanders, who are too limited in battle and because the Sensei Skylanders are op in this game, the Imaginators become useless. What have you done Activision? You killed Skylanders, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. At least Spyro got a remastered trilogy of the original series which is good and Crash Bandicoot got a remastered trilogy too and even a new game. Skylanders however died along with the Toys to Life series, who were declining in sales already, so this really killed it. Even if there are new Toys to Life games, they will just fail, because they are basically dead. You could call them the Toys to Death series.

DMC4 might have put it on the sidelines for a while, but 4 special edition's success actually showed capcom there was enough interest to make 5 so i feel like this entry is net-neutral.

Even though it never really “killed” the franchise, when Final Fantasy XIII first came out, it was so bad that my dad quit after only 15 minutes of gameplay and gave up on the entire series afterwards. I lasted a little bit longer (raged quit at the first summon boss fight), but I agree that it was a massive step backwards from FFXII’s more open-world structure.

Kieran Stark I don’t know about bubsy 3D because bubsy wasn’t ever good so if anything it falls under agonizing death of a franchise I mean I’m also suprised about the lack of the arguable Star Fox Command and F -Zero GX and doom 3. They all did major damage and F-Zero hasn’t had a new game, Doom was gone for 12 year until 2016 and after command there wasn’t a game for 8-9 years.
