Tbf, Summoned Skull might have a Gemini, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Toon, and Ritual retrain - but it doesn't have a Union, Spirit, Pendulum, or Link retrain yet! Let's let Summoned Skull be the first archetype to use all the summoning mechanics, he deserves it.

It’s not a *monster* retrain, but one of my favorite unexpected retrains is Crossout Designator. The original form of this card was a classic old spell card called Nobleman of Crossout, which featured a blond knight with a thin sword. It would destroy and banish a face-down monster card. And if it was a flip monster, it would banish all copies of it from the opponent’s deck. So a decade or two later, they made Crossout Designator. A quick-play spell that features the exact same Knight (but with a more action-oriented pose), and a *completely* different effect. At the risk of elaborating on something everyone knows about now, Crossout Designator lets you banish a card from your own deck, to negate the effects of any other copies of that card for the rest of the turn. It basically lets any deck selectively deny the opponent certain cards by including a copy of that card. The funny thing to me is that Nobleman of Crossout had a counterpart; Nobleman of Extermination. That one had an enormous Knight with a sword the size of an entire person. It would destroy and banish a face-down *spell/trap*, and banish all copies of it if it was a Trap. So I’m kinda just wonder if and when we’ll see *Extermination* Designator, and what the heck that could be. Also, fun fact: Nobleman of Crossout has changed its status on the ban-list 8 times. More than any other card (even D-Hero Malicious)

Really wish Konami would make a full blown archetype of Celtic monsters like they did with the magnet warriors. There is a vast array of figures from Celtic mythology they can take inspiration from. Hell, Celtic icons are already prevalent in other Japanese media such as the Shin Megami Tensei and Fate series. I'd love to see Yugioh's take on them.

I don't think gene warp counts as retrain, looks more like art related story, as pointed out, the assault one was that character before getting gene warped. Like the art stories of servant skull ou gagagigo ou luster soldier that many different card highlights some of their charaters backstory, not necessarily related to the card effect they are illustrating.

I think Assault mercenary is supposed to be a prequel character to Gene-Warped Warwolf. My headcanon is that he got genetic modification to try and regrow arms he lost a long time ago (hence them being cybernetic in Mercenary). BUT the procedure went wrong/overboard and gave him four arms instead of two.

I think the Assault Mercenary became the Warwolf or its just his little brothe, Non-Gene-Warped Warwolf. I think Sonic Bird sacrified someone while testing his new flying device which would excuse it being a ritual spell which means he became EVIL thus the Dark Attribute. It's my headcanon at least. He wasn't looking angry for no reason. He was currupt since the beginning. Gora is a very good movie. I highly suggest watching it. But not as funny as the Saban comedy movies. I am personally not a fan of retrains. Maybe we can get a video on weirdest upgrades? Like how Petit Moth becomes Larvea Moth after being tributed with Cocoon of Evolution after a few turns.

Gene Warped Warwolf saw some serious competitive play in 2011 -2013. It was the biggest normal summonable Beast Warrior and a rescue rabbit target. Which made it very good in early Fire Fist decks as either a beater or material for their xyz Tiger King

Glad you enjoy the translation elements of the videos! I feel the original context of the cards is important to consider looking at how many of them got name changes. As for Judgment Meter, it's a running gag that goes back to 2016. She started off as the voice of a meter that used various reaction images from 2013 to 2015. When people started just referring to her as "the anime girl" and thought she sounded like a dubbed anime character, we just said "why not" and just had her be a random anime character every video to commit to the bit, including when she's not the only cohost. Then when we took away the anime character when she was talking, people asked for it to be brought back, so we kept it. The origin of the joke gets lost based on how long its been, so maybe we'll replace it with something else some day.

For me, one of my most disappointing retrains would be Glacier Aqua Madoor whose a retrain of Neo Aqua Madoor, the evolving form of Aqua Madoor, for what seems to be the ultimate water magician it's effect is very lackluster, I can understand the protection but the fact that only protect normal monsters and only for battle makes me think the Ice Barrier he conjures (also miss opportunity to not tie him up with the Ice Barriers) is not really that big of a deal, not to mention the battle effect who I think is based on the line of the original Aqua Madoor is also as useless as the first effect, kind of sad because he honestly has a cool design Like Vega(Balrog) from Street Fighter combines with Dr. Strange. Ps: I love Yorishiro of the Aqua, that' a 10/10 retrain in my book.

As far as I can tell, the name of Gora turtle is derived from the japanese word koura which means shell. The other half of its name is a little harder to track down. Potentially it's from an obscure reading of the kanji 顔 (kao) meaning face since it's a turtle with a face on its back. The face itself reminds me of something Olmec or Polynesian.

If that Maha Vailo one had its effects apply at ALL times, it would likely STILL not be anywhere near competitively viable because of how trash equip cards are. Any monster removal would get rid of it and cause such a massive swing in tempo and card advantage that it wouldn't be worth using a normal summon on, even if it DIDN'T require a tribute.
