Top Things To Do in Clearwater Beach For Families 2023

Clearwater Beach is a 2 hour drive from Orlando on the gulf side about 30 minutes west of Tampa. Frequently ranked one of the best beaches in the U.S., famous for it’s sugar white sand as a trademark, Clearwater Beach is the perfect spot for a vacation, weekend getaway or just a day in the sun.

1. Pier 60- This pier is named after State Road 60 which ends in Clearwater Beach. This central spot for beach goers has a playground, souvenir shop, a fishing area and other activities that everyone can enjoy. Other amenities include public restrooms, telescopes and 6 covered pavilions. It's free to walk on the pier but costs $1 to access the fishing section. A nightly sunset celebration features artisans and street performers.
2. Enjoy a stroll along the Clearwater Beach Walk- this winding promenade stretches half a mile offering beach access and paved paths for walking, biking to and from area dining and hotels along the walk. There are palm trees, turtle showers and flowers that add visual appeal.
3. Dine at one of the many beach-side dining options such as Crabby’s Beachwalk Bar & Grill beside CK’s Eats and Drinks. Note that Crabby’s has 2 locations. The one where we ate is right on the beachwalk and the newer one is Crabby’s Dockside on Causeway Blvd across from Pier 60. We enjoyed delicious food with panoramic beach front views on the 2nd floor where they also have the colorful bar area.

4. Catching some rays at the beach is obviously a top must do! Rent any one of the colorful cabanas neatly arranged. How? Number 1. Choose the perfect spot 2. Have a seat and relax 3. A beach attendant will be with you shortly. However, you can also bring your own umbrella, chairs and boogie boards.
5. Eat ice cream! The first one we recommend is Ice & Cream Creamery right across from 450 West Condos. Another spot to get ice cream is at the gift shop right on the beachwalk. Additionally, they have beach themed souvenirs and beach gear. Savor your cold treat with ocean views on their back porch.
6. Embark on a dolphin boat tour. My nephew Nathan went on the Little Toot Dolphin Adventure and saw lots of dolphins jumping out of the water.

7. Shopping. Check out Mandalay Avenue north of Pier 60 which runs parallel to the beach. On the south side, you have Surf Style among many other shops. Also, check out a couple of awesome resorts! Here’s a quick tour of Opal Sands Resort situated at the end of the beachwalk. It’s modern design invites guests to experience a contemporary Clearwater Beach retreat. This resort features wide open lobby overlooking the stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico as well as an amazing pool area. Another resort I recommend: Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa.
8. On days you feel like staying in and taking a break from the hot Florida sun, simply enjoy your hotel or condo. In this video, I featured 440 West Condo where my brother stayed for a month. The identical condominium buildings are in between the Edge Hotel and Opal Sands Resort.

Hey Laura! Thanks! Yeah, I wish I lived closer to Clearwater Beach. It's even BETTER than I remember. They keep improving and updating the area with things to do, the walkways, it's clean, etc. I can see why it's frequently voted best beach in the U.S. My brother had the AirBnB condo for a month (he is a traveling nurse) so I visited for a couple of days. Yes, it's a beach destination all year. It's probably a little better in the winter time; it would be less busy and the heat more tolerable! You could stay out longer!

Probably the Pier 60 Public Parking. The pay meters take cards (and cash I think). You'll have to cross the road to get to where the tour boats are. Also, Pier House 60 Clearwater Beach Marina Hotel has a parking garage that they offer to the public as well. Look them up :)
