In the 70s I was a Disk jockey for KPLY 1240 on the dial. I was 18, going to Del Norte High. My show was pop & rock & roll. Had a lot of fun. We were the Emergency Broadcast Station for Tsunamis or other Emergencies. The Station played an important role when Crescent City was hit with a tsunami in 64. I wasn't there then. On the older radios you will see 2 Civil Defense symbols. One on 1240 and the other on 630 on the dial of older radios. Also Crescent City is close to where Star Wars was filmed when you seen them fight in the forest. Crescent City is a very nice place, good people and many things to explore. The one thing I found out living there is how to pronounce the local Native Indians name. In the name "Del Norte" is properly called Del Nort. The E is silent. I found out in high school. Members of the tribe respectfully educated me. It helped greatly being a DJ. Further south of Crescent City is Trees of Mystery and the beaches south have lots of agates, big ones. The light house is cool to visit. Low tides will allow you to see it all. Just a few extra things to ponder.🙂

Fun fact about the Curly Redwood Lodge is that apparently according to their sign all of the wood used to make the lodge came from one single Redwood tree. 😁👍

There's a lot to do there. I was born and raised there. Major shopping sucks, you have to go to Medford Oregon for that. Not much work there anymore.

It was a natural place to stop for the night along the coast - I stopped here 4 years ago too! I'm assuming you get a lot of tourists through here. Wow, that's quite the trek for major shopping!

Your title is what to do in Crescent City. You missed two very important places to visit if you are coming here, Battery Point Lighthouse and the County Museum. Many people think of museum's as dull and boring. Our museum focuses only on Del Norte County. There is so much history here. Your title should have been Del Norte county and surrounding area. Yes, I do live in CC and I also work at the lighthouse and museum.

You're right. We used CC mostly as a base for things to do in the area. Tbh, I didn't do that much research prior to getting there. I'm finding that as my videos evolve, I'm doing more pre-planning so I'm not wasting my time finding last minute things to do, and also finding those nuggets of historical relevance for the area.

What do you think about the city overall vibe?. Me and my wife we're planning to move there but it feels its empty and nothing much to do, or shop.

TBH, we didn't spend a lot of time in the city. It was all about Crescent City being a home base to go do things from (and there's a lot!). I get what you're saying though because we felt the same way. Being socked in with marine clouds didn't help!

There's nothing to do, and medical care is a joke. Also, there is lots of theft. It's extremely beautiful but not the best place to live.

@@TheHermitHacker Crime is probably everywhere, this is California and demoncrats control everywhere. You are also going to get higher temps. When it is 60* in CC it is 110 in Redding. The heat wave around the country, this summer, never hit here.

I moved to crescent city last year from Sacramento. I hear so much about the crime and homeless, but to be honest, it isn't anywhere near as bad as almost anywhere 8n the state. I love it.
