The "grid system" plan is why it is so walkable. One of the rare, small American cities that have a European feel. I miss and will always love this special city. You both did a fantastic job with the video 🙌💕

Love this video! Local Savannahian here, everything about your video is accurate except the part about Savannah having no open container laws... that is not true. We have what is called "OPEN" container laws, meaning you can legally carry an open container of alcohol anywhere in the historic district only. :)

Is it clearly marked where you can and can’t take your drinks? We are going to Savannah in April and my husband gets a goofy thrill from walking around the streets with a beer (he insisted on doing it every night we were in New Orleans) even though he’s not a big drinker, just because it’s something we can’t do in Pennsylvania, but I’m always worried we will get fined without a warning haha

If you're living or from an old historical place this place to site see would be for you. But if you're from upscaled cities like Queen City of Charlotte NC...when visiting Savannah it really feels and looks old.

That's actually not the original bench from the movie. I believe it even says it on a sign nearby. And how did you not talk about some of the gravestones in Colonial Cemetery. Pay attention to some and you'll see some buried there died before they were born. 😂

I live in Savannah in the historic district on the river, and I work for the city. Savannah is average (at best). If you like tee shirt shops, public drunkenness, hood behavior and vagrants; you will love Savannah. The food scene is overrated and overpriced. I can think of 4 places that I would recommend: the Gryphon on Bull (limited hours $$), The Grey on MLK (in the old Greyhound Station $$$$), The Pink House on Reynolds square, and Saint Bibiana (east side of Forsyth Park in Hotel Bardo on Drayton $$$$) most other places in the historic district range from just average to outright tourist trap. *An important note regarding the Pink House... Reynolds Square is a vagrant gathering point as there is a mission on the square as well. Hold your nose and use caution if you go. Johnson Square and Ellis Square are also hotspots for the unhoused to occupy benches; really basically any square with tourist foot traffic will have panhandlers and people nodding on benches. There is no food on River St or Bay St that I would waste my time or money on. There are a couple of OK places to grab a drink and a bite in the Plant Riverside complex along the river, but bring your wallet. The Savannah River, is a good place to watch ships, but I would stick to the Plant Riverside, or the Eastern Wharf area for that. Eastern Wharf Park has a decent place called Squirrels Pizza. They have an outdoor bar and seating area (no indoor). The Thompson Hotel at Eastern wharf has THE best rooftop bar in Savannah, Bar Jullian. If you want a view, this is your spot. Both Eastern Wharf and Plant Riverside are newer developments and just plain nicer/cleaner/safer (after dark in particular) than the rest of the area along the river. I live at Eastern Wharf and we have a private security company patrolling 24/7. Don't let anyone try and convince you that Savannah is safe to roam around in, especially after dark; because it is not. Steer clear of City Market at night, just trust me on this one. Like many locals, I don't normally venture out on foot in Savannah after dark without a gun. What tourist videos generally call the "business district" (Broughton) is a joke. Mostly just trinket/tee shirt shops, tourist trap eateries and candy stores. You WILL have addicts sitting on the sidewalk and on benches hitting you up all along Broughton St. Another thing to know about Broughton is, if you go and stand in line at Leopold's for ice cream; we laugh at you. It's just ice cream. The real business district is on the Southside of Savannah (below DeRenne). If you are not from here, don't venture down there. People talk up the areas that they want to pretend are eclectic, like Starland Yards (midtow-nish)... it is just hipsters and SCAD students. As for Tybee, it is a mecca for redneck tourists. We call it the PCB of the East Coast and Little Myrtle Beach. During the season, Tybee is an absolute trainwreck. Trashy, dirty, redneck, way overcrowded and just plain gross. Go to Hilton Head if you want a nice beach experience. That is where we (and everyone we know from Savannah) go to the beach.

She described this man as one of the first true Americans in this country. No he wasn't. The first true Americans were the native indians.
@AdmiralBonetoPick Жыл бұрын
No, America didn't exist in native days. The man was one of the first people born in America after the country was officially founded. Those 'natives' at the time would have considered themselves Cherokee, Seminole, and other nations - not American.
