Wish I could appreciate my home town as much as you guys did! You guys should see our royal family too some time. St. Augustine has a royal family that shows up for certain events (they normally show up down by the boats on the Wednesday before Easter). My friend is a princess lol. Shame you went after they got rid of the Spanish Quarter (not the Colonial Quarter which isn't half as good). I used to reenact there because Spanish Quarter is basically step back in time into a Spanish settlement of the 1500's. Thanks for posting this! It's interesting seeing a tourist's perspective! :)

I have lived here my whole life. It is truly a blessing. The "mote" around the fort was never meant to hold water. it was used as a surprise element for those that ran uphill towards the fort in an attempt to scale the walls. I love your video! I feel I was there with you all. I must say the 600 year old tree is old but I believe the oldest tree in Florida is "Lady Liberty", an approximately 2,000 year old Bald Cypress Tree at Big Tree Park in Sanford FL. America has trees so old like between 2000-4000 years old.
@PerfectLittlePlanet3 жыл бұрын
Oh my gosh, thank you for setting the record straight! My bad for getting my facts wrong. Looks like the Old Senator in St. Augustine is just an old tree, and I just assumed it was the _oldest_ tree because everything else in St. Augustine was the oldest and first of its kind. Thanks for letting us know about Lady Liberty. We'll have to go check out Big Tree Park now to go see it.
@hdrake10003 жыл бұрын
@@PerfectLittlePlanet The Lady Liberty in Sanford had a big brother called the Senator there in the same park, older than she was but tragically The Senator got burned down about 3-4 years ago by some crack addict who set the poor tree on fire. @@PerfectLittlePlanet I'd wait until the fall. Not sure if I'll be back this year trying to get into Appalachian trail volunteer work. But if I am I'll play for you at hypolita and Spanish street. If you miss me at my tree there go see the metal arts shop across the street they are always featuring new artists and artwork.

The Spanish built that fortress, I don’t see why so interesting to see the English soldiers playing a thing there 🤷♂️ San Agustin was a Latino city.
@PerfectLittlePlanet3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Spanish built the fortress, but they handed it over to the British after Spain and France lost the Seven Years War and had to give Florida to Britain as part of the Treaty of Paris. What we saw was the reenactment of that transfer. I thought it was interesting.

Good video. We’ve been going for 30 years but a visit to St. A without a visit to Hazel’s Hot Dogs is not a visit to St. A.

Hi! Thanks for the video. I'm planning to go soon. How many days did you need to be able to go to all those places? Thanks.

This entire video was filmed in one day. However, if you want to do the fountain of youth and some of the other forts in the area, planning one more day would be more than enough time to do everything. -Brian

Check out all things datil. Datil peppers are native to St Augustine and you will see them in most restaurants, made into sauces. O'Steens restaurant shrimp sauce is a perfect example. Very spice and very sweet, they are put into so many local dishes and sauces. They actually have a festival for the Datil Pepper every fall. www.floridashistoriccoast.com/events/datil-pepper-fall-festival/ So much good food to eat, but they are still around in other dishes the entire year. It's kind of a "locals" secret that they let others in on.

That's really interesting. I've heard a few times on here about O'Steens, but not about the peppers they use in the sauce. Thanks for sharing. I love learning new things about places we've visited. -Brian
