My mother-in-law doesn't speak English, and still has several young children herself, while I have none yet.. so it's a bit of a different relationship. One way I'm trying to show my love and respect for her is by learning her language so we can one day have our own conversations without my husband interpreting!

My mother-in-law was in the early stages of dementia when I met her, but her sweetness and wry humor were still quite evident. Knowing that my husband's family had adored his ex-wife and that his mother and his ex had in fact been very close friends, I will always be grateful for the kindness she showed me. Among friends and relatives I've seen great mother-in-law relationships and thoroughly fractured ones....mutual respect goes a long way.

This is a good one! I've had a tough relationship with my MIL . I've always kept my posture and respected her and it had actually made her realize the problem. Which I thank God for that and also her reversion to the Church. 🙏🏼

My mother-in-law is an amazing strong woman. She is of course my first mother-in-law but I am also her first daughter-in-law so we are learning this relationship together. She is so amazing and I got lucky but we still have things that we're learning about each other and our relationship. This was helpful.

I’m getting married this summer and through the wedding planning process I let my future MIL know she can be as involved or uninvolved as she wants but that I of course would love it if she was there for all the appointments and stuff if she’s available. She has been to everything I’ve invited her to and it has helped us get to know each other even more. I’ve never had any negative opinions about her because she is a saint for raising my fiancé (used to be quite a wild child) but getting to know her and the rest of my fiancé’s family makes me love him that much more because I see all the things I love about him in their personalities. I’m truly blessed with the best future mother in law.

This is so helpful. I've known my mother-in-law for two and a half years, and it's definitely not been the easiest relationship; I need to practice compassion, as I think she's a bit insecure - but I'm also practicing boundaries, as I moved far away from my own mother after the wedding. Thanks for being so open about how difficult it can be, and all the ideas!

Loved hearing all these tips! Getting ready to probably meet my boyfriend's mom next month and I gotta say it's a bit intimidating not knowing what to expect... but some of these definitely apply to my situation even if she's not my mom-in-law and I'm saving this video for future reference, too. I appreciate you sharing!!💜

I dont have a mother in law - she passed away the year prior to me and my now husband dating - however being a new wife, I do notice some quirks about my father in law and I love him to pieces

Not married but I watch all your videos regardless of how applicable they are to my life at the moment. Never too early to prepare yourself for these scenarios😅 on that note, what are ways singles can celebrate Advent? Every time I google, WSU’s to love more liturgically, it’s always “for families” or “for kids.”

This is an amazing video Emily and such great advice! Unfortunately, I sometimes run into guys who have a strained relationship with their mother and I have always found it impossible to connect with guys like that. I'm not married or even dating right now, but all these tips are great for future reference.
