This one is a Selkirk SLK. However I have since started using the Diadem A52 solid paddle at a great price.

Are you allowed to impart spin with the paddle on the serve? I play with someone who puts a slice on the serve, however in watching professionals play, they never do this which made me think it's not allowed.

With your paddle - yes you are….but you can’t impart spin using your hand/fingers when releasing the ball for the serve. But using your paddle/stroke to impart spin is perfectly legal.

Yes you can spin the ball using the paddle motion. There are however different rules for a drop and a volley serve. In a traditional "slice" the paddle is not moving in the right direction. I just started playing 3 was ago, and you are so correct. I have received close to a hundred tips, and they all contradict each other. Then I can teamed with higher players, who not only get frustrated with my lack of knowledge and playing ability, but they start to ball hog. I guess they expect for me to start out as a 4.0 from the start.

Short backswing = no power. You need big body rotation when you serve. Therefore, paddle goes back far.

The length of your backswing is not the main power generator in a swing. The core or body rotation are important but not as important as a serve that is consistently in and deep. The main job of the serve is to make it harder on the returner. 😀

Inventors of the game never intended it to be like tennis where the serve can win the game. This changing of the serve will be a controversial skill forever now that all the jerks want to change it. Ruining a once great sport, piece by piece.
