Dear Amy, I thank you with all my heart for your tireless reporting on the wars and injustices worldwide. I realize there are only rare occasions to report on steps in the direction of a better and more inhabitable world. I just wonder whether it would be possible to give a short part of your reporting to the tiny "plants" worldwide which carry hopeful solutions, but need support and encouragement. In Bangladesh, the student protest did start off because of the quota issue but the movement has moved far beyond that now. Now they want Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down. The Government was planning to re-instate quota for freedom fighters. 30% of Government jobs were to go to Freedom fighters’ families. The fact is there is no authentic list of freedom fighters in Bangladesh and also if a freedom fighter had a child in 1971, that child would be over 50 years of age now. So, not sure who the Government had in mind when they came up with this policy. When the students raised this, prime minister Sheikh Hasina called them “Rajakar”, a very derogatory term used for people who were against the 1971 war in Bangladesh. To this the students started protesting when the government parties student branch, Bangladesh chhattro league, BCL, started attacking the students. BCL is well known for its violence. On top of that a protestor with arms raised in the air was shot dead at close range by police by rubber bullets. There was even more outrage from the protesters because of this and then government decided to get military on roads and call for curfew and closed down internet and other essential means of communication where students could upload pictures and videos of what was happening. Sheikh Hasina is now trying to blame this on opposition parties and planning to punish the protesters.

She is not Black, she is not an African American. She is Jamaican and Indian. Her complexion is not unusual and common for the mixture. Her grand father or great grandfather was an Irish and a plantation in Jamaica. I don’t think the complexion matters it was her stance on Reparations for African slave descendants. She also was not a favorite of the Black community during the Biden run. She was imposed upon us by Biden upon our community.
