I live here. I think each CAT3+ hurricane storm surge will result in areas that do not get redeveloped. What pushes back against that is the value people place on coastal living. But the redevelopment will be thinner because only those who can self-insure will be able to afford to live on the coast or near it. Property insurance cost and availability have gotten considerably worse. It is the insurance companies and the wealthy who will be shaping the future of Florida. I see the land being redeveloped into more "keys", that is, artificial islands or reinforced, existing higher elevations like old dune areas. You might see even more RV parks than there already are. Then people can migrate away from threatened areas with their whole household. More middle-class Floridians might live in RVs. RVs do have that depreciation issue. Someday the existing keys that are not reinforced will be shallow sea. The Antarctic Thwaites Glacier will really push the process when it starts to slide into the ocean. There will be a lot of unprepared coastal property taken out by any storm surge after that. While I think maps that show most of south and central Florida underwater in the future are a bit hyperbolic, I have no doubt the map is going to radically change over the next two centuries.

I think it is good to challenge executive compensation if those executives cannot design jobs that are worth a living wage. We need to make good jobs a social norm or metric of what an executive is expected to create. Boards are heavily focused on profits. I think it takes increasing employee ownership to better balance corporate values.

It's a good challenge to well-paid managers to design jobs that are worth a living wage. If that is too difficult a task, perhaps the "well-paid" part of management needs some re-evaluation. I do realize that some businesses are always on the cusp of going out of business. Such owners have very hard choices about what that can pay themselves and any help.

Raising wages is good, but lowering work hours defeat the whole purpose. Make it a law that employers can't decrease work hours below 35 hours a week nationwide. Retail and restaurants industries are especially using the lower work hours to avoid wage increases. It's strange that National Labor forcers are allowing such underhandedness.

Withholding water and bathroom breaks is dehumanizing and dangerous yet is common enough for someone to come up with a law to let employers do it. OSHA is supposed to protect workers from danger. Hope they step up. Work shouldn’t be dehumanizing, either, and the dignity of workers is protected by the NLRB and a confusing patchwork of state or city laws. If the system of worker protections is this ineffective, do you think it’s a bug or a feature?
