It's Die Hard for me. I was immediately captivated by his elegant and smart portrayal of a thief. Christmas is incomplete without watching that film.

I have seen 2 Alan Rickman movies, both of which are big favourites of mine: Sense and Sensibility and Love Actually. I understand your point about modern actors with which I am not that familiar and I may decide to skip comments on ones where I have not seen any, but I love these two movies and have seen them often. Of course with the classic era, poster art is fantastic, so I would always comment on the classic artists regardless as to whether I have seen many of their films.. Favourite posters and stills are the opening photo where Alan looks very young, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Sweeny Todd, Galaxy Quest, Dogma, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Love Actually, Perfume, A Little Chaos, Alice Through the Looking Glass, An Awfully Big Adventure, and the final still.

Hi Flora, I think he was just a school kid in that opening still. Alan Rickman was a stage actor, he was 42 when he played Hans Gruber in Die Hard, his first movie, and his top rated movie. The young generation know him best as Severus Snape in Harry Potter. I've seen 20 of the 32 films on this list, favorites are Die Hard, the Harry Potter series, Robin Hood, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Galaxy Quest. Nice selection.....I wish I had done a tribute page on him when he passed...somehow...I failed to do that. Before looking at the video...I have seen all the Potter movies...I found those ok...though my oldest daughter loved them. Saw must at midnight showings...those are good memories of us seeing the movies together. So I will not be talking anymore about Harry. Seen 28 of the 32 movies. Thought Love Actually was way to low at #23....that is actually one of my favorite all-time movies. #9 Galaxy Quest...fun movie...him playing Nimoy is a blast to watch. #17 Dogma....good movie....the last good Kevin Smith movie? and #1 Die Hard...glad to see it fighting off all those blockbusters from that franchise and getting the number one spot. His role in Die Hard is considered (rightly) one of the greatest villains in movie history. Voted up and shared. Rest in peace. Alan Rickman.

Hi Bruce, I knew you'd be happy seeing Die Hard at no.1, it's no.1 at IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes too. Your score for Love Actually was 6.7, mine is 6.6, so not much difference there, it's just that there were higher rated movies above it. If we were playing favorites these lists would look completely different. I would have had Galaxy Quest somewhere in the top 5 on this chart, but Die Hard would still be no.1. I haven't seen Dogma in ages, time to give it another spin. 28 out of 32 is excellent, I've seen 20, Flora 2. Thanks again for the comment, vote and share.

What about Rasputin? Why would some of these films be on here without Rasputin? He won an Emmy, a SAG, and a Golden Globe for Christ’s sake?! Someone should redo this list! Also, Sense and Sensibility is amazing, should be #1 imho, and Love Actually is ranked pretty low...

Well we all have our own opinions, it would be boring without them. Rasputin was a TV movie and I decided to stick with motion pictures for this list. If Sense and Sensibility was no.1 people would complain about Die Hard not being at the top. When it comes to the charts and lists you just can't please everyone, it's impossible. Thanks for posting.
