Tony Khan saw the success WWE had with Elimination Chamber Australia, and he thought he could replicate it with AEW. I'm sure he now regrets telling Dana White about WWE having to change venues for Money In The Bank. Someone should've told TK that A) the wrestling scene in Australia is tiny compared to the ones in America and England and B) It's hard to cultivate a following similar to WWE's in a country where people have a hard time finding and keeping up with you on TV or other forms of media. Another blunder from AEW, who many allege to be the "second coming of mid-1990's WCW."

Remember when TK made fun of WWE for moving money in the bank back in 2022? In all seriousness, the market in Australia for wrestling is not as big as people think it is. Doing a stadium show, let alone in Brisbane, was dumb. Even WWE couldn't even sell out EC there last year (tbf, not many top draws were advertised), but at least they could say that australia paid them to be there, this doesnt apply to AEW. For example in UK they booked Saraya to win the women's title just to create a cheap pop from the crowd, it is more obvius in All In 2024 when they booked Jamie Hayter... IN THE PRE-SHOW or when they made debut the Grizzled Young Veterans just to attack The FTR, making them heels, having a feud with them just because "we are not a copy of you", losing to them and then losing to the Outrunners (they are good team but is more thanks to their gimmicks and charisma than for their tecniques).

As an Australian who is a wrestling fan (obviously) and who knows AEW. The biggest issues to having a show from AEW here in Australia is that they don't have any foothold here. - To watch AEW shows you need to have either ESPN Plus or Foxtel, and even then they don't advertise anywhere expect for ESPN's channels. - Combined that with really having only a handful of stars that the average Australian person would know (that being former wwe talent, some ex NJPW talent and/or Australian Wrestlers) - then having it be originally booked to be one of the largest stadiums in Queensland (a state similar to Florida in some ways) was such a horrible choices really with out the notable talent, a easy to view product and a willingness to make it a proper show not just a slap dash type of show that's is barely hanging on atm. - The only other times that a non WWE or regional show decided to bring an event to Australia is when NJPW have some shows in the past (usually tapped expect for one ppv). With those shows being in small venues, knowing that they aren't going to have a large enough crowd unlike how TK believed how Grand Slam Australia would go. If I didn't live on the other side of Australia I would go to this event 100%, I believe it would a great thing for Pro Wrestling in Australia but i truly believe Tony only saw the numbers WWE were pulling from elimination chamber in Perth and seriously thought that they could do the same without putting any major work in like what WWE has done for many years previously. Now if I was TK and I wanted to expand into Australia I would consider working with foxtel and the other major television networks here to show off AEW more since Foxtel had lost WWE to netflix with their recent deal for raw.

Ya I mean don’t buy too much into the doom and gloom. They overestimated the tickets they would sell so what 🤷🏼♂️ It’s still good you’ll get to see a company you don’t normally get to see. American and European wrestling fans are spoiled.

Not surprising at all. What's more surprising is how you pronounced Melbourne correctly. Kudos to you good sir!

AEW could’ve just changed the start time. For example if they aired it live at 11 am in Brisbane on Saturday. It’d be 6 pm Friday on the west coast and 9 pm on the east.

The ideal show that would’ve sold out Suncorp Stadium would’ve been AEW Grand Slam 25’ Date - February 15, 2025 Location - Brisbane, AUS Venue - Suncorp Stadium Pre-Show: 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) 5.) Main Card: 1.) Adam Cole def. MJF for possession of the AEW Dynamite Diamond Ring 2.) Aussie Open def. The Young Bucks (c) for the AEW World Tag Team Championship 3.) “The Scapegoat” Jack Perry (c) def. Jay White to retain the TNT Championship 4.) House of Black def. The Blackpool Combat Club, Bullet Club Gold (c) and The Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong & The Kindgdom) in a 12 Man Ladder Match for the AEW World Trios Championship 5.) Bobby Lashley w/ The Hurt Syndicate def. Swerve Strickland w/ Prince Nana 6.) Mercedes Moné (c) w/ Stokely Hathaway def. Athena to retain the TBS Championship 7.) Daniel Garcia (c) def. Will Ospreay to retain the AEW International Championship 8.) Kazuchika Okada (c) def. Kenny Omega to retain the AEW Continental Crown Championship 9.) Mariah May (c) w/ Kamille & Mina Shirakawa def. Toni Storm to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship 10.) Bryan Danielson (c) def. Samoa Joe to retain the AEW World Championship

They'd probably get better ratings if they aired it live at 2:30 AM. Not much better, but it's possible.😂

I would have Hayter Vs Hart III on the card ending in a time limit draw. Afterward Hayter offers a handshake and after milking it for a while, Julie finally shakes Hayter's hand, furthering the "HOB is not bad, they are misunderstood" story line.

All I want to know is who told them they could sell out a massive arena ? They surely have someone giving them figures/stats of potential interest and from where …

Tony is spiraling because he's not a real manager. He lets Mox and Mone do whatever they want. Mone looks stupid with 4 belts. Mox looks stupid not prizing the world title (while he's devaluing it). That is just the tip of the iceberg. Tony needs to hire a real management structure over there and then maybe they could be competitive.

At what point does WBD come to Tony and tell him he needs to relinquish booking duties or lose his TV deal? I would be shocked if they dont have out clauses in their contract that include ratings benchmarks. He needs to go, get someone who can actually book in there.

Yeah it's clearly been botched. Indi Hartwell's non compete should be up and it might make sense if they were going to bring her in to do it here. I like the idea of using TMDK against the Deathriders as all 3 of those guys are class. I think Adam Brooks could end up being fed to someone on Zero Hour as he's mates with Buddy.
