Billy Corgan's NWA Just Got WORSE

A few weeks ago we checked out the first half of NWA Samhain 2. If you aren’t aware, the first NWA Samhain show that aired in 2023, damn nearly killed the company, and so NWA decided to bring it back another year. And yeah upon watching the first half… I can’t say I’m too excited to watch the rest. The first 3 episodes of the show were pretty dire. Not really any good matches on them and mostly boring action, 1 or 2 matches were maybe ok at best but thats it. At least so far there’s been no sniffing coke spots. We’re gonna check out the rest of the show today

Breaking my heart seeing videos like these. When Powerrr first started we all buzzed man. It was a great alternative to the big glitz and glamour. Seeing it fall the way it has really sucks man. I have everything crossed he can somehow pull it back. Maybe try and bring in a few names or go into a deal with another company. I think we could all get behind a Dustin Rhodes chasing the NWA title run. Could you imagine the buzz. Dusty and both his sons holding that title. Maybe I’m just in denial that NWA is pretty much beating a dead fox.

Truth be told, I gave up on the NWA as well. I keep up to date through Wikipedia and the occasional facebook post here-and-there, but otherwise I just gave up on the promotion. Which is a shame because they have some talent I like, like EC3 and Kenzie Page, but...yeah...It's pretty much a sinking ship that feels somehow worse than year 2000 WCW? (Might be harsh there, I don't know. Certainly up there in terms of awfulness with Vince's booking of WWE from 2019 to him getting kicked out). Even TNA/Impact in its worse years - and I was still watching the show at the time in those dark years - is arguably more entertaining than the NWA in the last 2-3 years.

Anthem (TNA's owners) would be the best choice for them; there is a past history btwn them from 2002-2007 so it wouldn't be too hard to re-merge. Once done, they could easily run it as a separate promotion a/l/a how AEW runs RoH. As for choices 1, 2 and 4? #2 - Nope; Tony Khan can't even run his own company #1 - Ehhh, maybe - at least Vinnie Mac's no longer there and Triple H has proven to be a shrewd manager #4 - Hell no; Vince would do to them what he did to both WCW and ECW in 2001-2002: bury them in a stupid "Invasion" gimmick.

TNA seems like the most likely as they could use it for retro NWA-TNA stuff, and they have a stronger connection to the name than WWE or AEW. But I don't see them making a move on it until after it's gone under and they can pick up the right for pennies instead of paying whatever extortionate rate Corgan would probably want.

Billy Corgan is becoming the poor man's Tony Khan lately. He had a simple, old school NWA product when they brought back Powerrr but now it's unwatchable garbage. There's not many good performers left in the NWA and gimmicks are over the top and circus like. It seems like Corgan’s NWA was hit by a perfect storm: - Getting rid of the Dokken intro music in favor of something Nu Metal sounding, turning off the fan base. - COVID shutting down the world (and the NWA’s main KZbin show for a year IIRC) and a lot of the NWA’s stars getting pilfered by other companies.

There's been positive matches, and some boring matches........ agreed. There's been some weird schtick... NWA does stand out from other wrestling promotions by being different. Their viewership has been gradually climbing. This company isn't run by super deep pockets, so it's a high-production indy. Thing is before Corgan the NWA was never a promotion it was a governing body whose titles appeared wherever. Really even if it goes bust someone will buy the rights for the belts and keep using them. You either have a scenario where AEW or wwe buy it and end the lineage unifying the belts or some rando paying for it and it being defended wherever.
