Suec C...just one thing...you saved yourself, even if you'd never heard this record, you'd have done it . It was something in you,, not the song or the band. I know it's easier to exercise to music, but that motivation has to be in you anyway. 10 stone in one year is awesome! You deserve the credit, and would have done it with or without the song. (tho it is an epic track to exercise to :) My nephew is severely overweight, his young life is affected by it, I get so upset seeing him struggle, and angry with his mother for doing it to him (he's been overweight since about 3 years old, he's almost 18 now). I pray he finds his motivation, stories like yours are a true inspiration.

Robert Downes he probably does a little touring here or there and maybe some investment income but I have to believe the publishing and licensing income from “Vehicle”, “Eye of the Tiger”, his other Survivor hits and other artists bring in a very consistent and high income. Eric Carmen of Raspberries fame brings in 600,000 to 800,000 yearly from his songs and Berton Averie (guitarist Knack) always joked that all he has to do is walk to the mailbox and get his royalties from My Sharona. Most importantly Peterik seems like a stable and well grounded guy. Kept his money and even his fantastic and rare guitar collection, albeit expensive to acquire has increased immensely in value of the years.
@theselector47336 жыл бұрын
stuguy That's right & apparently he wrote hits for other artists starting in the 60's. He still performs every now & then. Obviously the BIG Money earner is "Eye of a Tiger". The royalties on that must be immense.
@stuguy6 жыл бұрын
theselector right you are. I’m sure that song alone brings somewhere in the six figures each year even after splitting it with Frankie Sullivan. I believe he had a few hits with 38 Special that charted high in the early to mid 80s too. Regardless he’s married to his high school sweetheart, still performs with original members of Ides of March, has a family and seems well grounded. One of the few happy endings for older musicians. Kudos to him. 👍🏻

I’m reading all these derogatory comments and it makes me laugh. You have no clue! One hit wonder? Ha! He continues to write #1 and 2 hit songs with every major star you can imagine (lots of them). Grow old gracefully? Why??? He’s got more creative energy and brain power than most of you haters will ever have. He is around the clock, writing, recording, producing and touring at a pace that most people wouldn’t survive. I’m biased because I’ve had the honor of working with him, but he’s also one of the nicest, and most genuine human beings you’ll ever meet...a drug free singer/songwriter/author/ multi-instrumentalist/Grammy winning superstar, who married his HS sweetheart and is still married to her. You learn from people like Jim, you don’t let your petty jealousy get the better of you and mock them. Sad. Think before you comment.

About twenty five years ago -- it must have been around 1992 -- I had the pleasure of seeing him in a city of Chicago "Music for the Schools" conference type of thing. It was an event for high school students in the city where you could attend lectures by music professionals in a classroom, discussing everything from songwriting to recording to engineering. It was a very inspiring program, and free, from what I remember. At any rate, I remember sitting in this classroom -- I think it was the songwriting one --and Jim Peterik was leading it. I had no idea what to expect, and I'm not even sure I was aware he wrote "Eye of the Tiger" at the time. He walks in, acoustic guitar in hand, and starts with the repeated single note intro into the main riff, then vocals, and just OWNS the room. As a 16-year-old, I was just blown away by his musical confidence and charisma. I had never thought much of the song until then, but it made such an impression on me that that is the only thing I remember about that conference. And then he relayed the story about the writing of the song that is very similar to what is in this video, so he's clearly told the story a few times. :) So a tip of the glass to Jim. Thanks for your time and for inspiring us. And keep living the rock and roll life!

Goosebumps guarantied!!! I went through something quite harsh not long ago and I put this song for encouragement, not knowing that people do the samething lol. So, this songs is realy inspiring to all kind of people for all kind of reasons. Hens that's a real universal song.

Great story on how the hit came about. A classic song that will be around a lot longer than some of the keyboard jokers here giving the guy a hard time for being a successful artist and individual.

In my 21 years in the Army I heard this song hundreds of times at ceremonies, change of command, after and during unit runs. What a cool dude.

@Liberty Tree Honestly I hate this song for that very reason............it seemed really corny.

Well I like an old folk who still enjoy himself and still finds the time to exorcise while spotting a nice Lambo... That's what I call Going into life with style!. I have listened to this particular song many times, specially when I need to focus on something hard or need to focus on something.... still one of the best blasts from the past!... Cheers! all you guys have the Eye of the Tiger! >_O

Fyi he has written and produced a lot of hit songs. He is by no means a one hit, one band wonder.

@Vox Daze Google it. Heavy metal, hold on loosely, vehicle, and burning heart were all hits and he has worked with a lot of bands.

I met Jim and the guys of Survivor in the end of the 90' in South-Germany. They called the tour: The eye is back. The played the shows live (no playback!!!) and it sounds every show excellent.

A song can be like a great painting. It can restore the world and make history. I saw Rocky 3 in a theater when it came out, and I never saw anything like it since. Everyone stood and cheered in the theater - an audience of suburban families deeply inspired for the right reasons in the right way. Go ahead and make fun, then try to form a band good enough for a movie actor to call you up to write a song like that. I’ll wait...

Great tune and a tremendous stroke of luck to this man who lives his dream life and is still inspiring people with his songs. It's a classic example of winning at all costs.

When one song makes you that much money you can be "exotic" :-) Great Story...musical success is so random...

This guy made lots of bank from several songs, not just Eye of The Tiger. You need to do some research before you comment.

As a 80s kid I love the original version, but, man, his version in this video is amazing! His voice is deeper and more 'hard rock' to me. Like this very much.

People can criticise this guy all they like but ask yourself what you have done in your own life that is so great ? He wrote a classic and he looks like hes made some money along the way. If he wants purple hair then so what :)

David G do you really believe that one song bought him all that. He has plenty of other hits. This video is only about that specific hit Eye of the Tiger.

@@val13c59 Doesn't even need any other hit after writing a song like that. How many times is this song still being played on radio across the world after 35 years is anyone's guess :P
