I didn't even take the chance on the tensioner and idler pulley last time I did my belt, even if they were good, I just straight up replaced it all. Might as well, if you're digging that deep into your engine to begin with.

in my case the water pump seized. Suddenly the heat in the cabin disappeared. A seized water pump rubbed the timing belt and broke. In the end 2 bent valves and all rockers broken. I disassembled, replaced the damaged valves, assembled new rockers. I put it together and boom I'm still driving

I like how he didn't disclose to make sure the engine was not running before grabbing ahold of the timing belt to check it. We know how some people, if you don't disclose the coffees hot and it's not on the cup they are drinking it out of they are filing a suit, because financially it's their only means of survival!

Very nice explanation of the timing belt. Maybe a failing belt causes the new symptoms I've noticed.

Hello i have a 2003 accord v6 running wierd. I thought about the timing but no indication for timing issue because it does not have low compression. In fact the compression seems high for such an old car; i think spec is 160 and above with a max variation of 14 between two consecutive cylinders and i measure 195-200 on all cylinders. Got another gauge and same compression values with no apparent leak while the gauge is on. Fuel pressure is within spec; spark plugs were new and oem when i last replaced it (fouled now) and ignition coils are not oem but are brand new. If i could have a lead, it would be great

I have a 2013 Santa Fe, V6 3.3 with timing chain… rattling chain slapping cover perhaps?
@jawnnydoodlebob7387 Жыл бұрын
if its that loud and noticeable, its safe to say damage has been done already. but probably not significant enough that you havent noticed loss of power or hesitation. still if youre gonna get that deep to have to replace the tensioner, u should replace the chain as well. although i had a situation where i only had to replace my belt tensioner(although im in need of replacing the belt as well). for my situation i was able to replace the tensioner without the belt removed. since your car is relatively new, i'd feel its safe to say you wouldnt need a valve adjustment. but still do pin point where the noise is coming from. this little job could cost you the life of your engine so you really should get to working on that as SOON as possible.

No no damage yet, fix it before it breaks while you’re driving like mine did yesterday, if you don’t you’ll regret it like I do now lol
@Detect-Oregon11 ай бұрын
Man sorry to hear that. Was it due to a bad tensioner and did the chain end up giving way?? It’s scheduled to go in in two weeks. It’s been sitting for two months because it’s hard to find a reputable, honest mechanic the good ones have a wait. Hoping I don’t invest the grand to crack it open and it’s something more/worse. Seems that the tensioners are somewhat of a failure/defect, one of the many questionable issues within the engine components of this motor, that can fail/wear.
@shaneomac507411 ай бұрын
@@Detect-Oregon i haven’t taken it apart yet because it’s so cold but If I had to guess either the tensioners and guides were probably all on their way out and it probably got so loose that it jumped one or two teeth, won’t know for sure until I break it down though, I will say right before it went bad, the chain noise actually went quiet and it was running oddly smooth, and then in the blink of an eye it started misfiring and making backfiring sounds like a beefed up Japanese car, but the sound was coming from the engine bay not the exhaust pipe lol, and it had a weird burning oil or coolant smell all the sudden too, hopefully it didn’t bend valves, mine was on an 04 Lincoln Town Car by the way, very reliable engine but those timing chain parts just don’t last forever, timing chain/belt maintenance is critical, oddly enough my 97 f150 with the same engine is almost 10 years older and has 250k miles on it, it’s timing chain is still quiet and working flawlessly

Hi. I have Peugeot 807 2.2 hdi 128hp, the timing belt jumping an the engine stop. That was happening during driving. when i put it in automatic, the engine revs but doesn't start. The engine has no strange noise. Is it possible in this case to know of a broken or crooked spring or rocker??what do you recommend to do in this case?? Thank you.

@@authenticpressure6346 NO. Timing belt makes sure the pistons move in sync. Serpentine belt powers things like alternator, power steering, AC, etc. BUT you cannot drive if one is broken
