Headspiking is illegal now, used to be a tactic they’d use but man injuries and even death/paralysis at lower level tournaments Banned now

in the last 30 years judo rules changed a lot in order ro prevent those injuries (forbidden techniques, forbidden grip etc) , most judoka and spectator do not approve this evolution but it "makes sense" since it truely reduce big injuries. Judoka, like wrestler work a LOT on their neck flexibility and strenght it is not comparable to any other human absorbing the same impact that's why you are amazed. 99% of big injuries are avoiding by this ability. To me judo's rules shift is really stupid for high level adult competitors but i could understand if it was only at lower level and younger age.
