Georgia is a small country with only 4 million inhabitants. Yet Georgians are among the best judomen in the world. And they are fighting not only in a Georgian judo team. There are excellent Georgians in the teams of Russia, Greece, Belgium, Spain and other countries. One Georgian won the world championships under a Greek name (Ilias Iliadis). But the funniest incident happened on one 2019 international tournament when a Georgian in Russian teams fought the Georgian in a Belgian and the referee was a Georgian from Georgia.

Which 1 would u take, Mongolian or Georgian judo wrestling ?
@Chadi4 жыл бұрын
It's a tough one, they both share a lot of techniques (ura nage, uchi mata front ura nage), but i would say Mongolians have a far more intriguing gripping tactics (khashbaatar in particular)
@andrewferris19034 жыл бұрын
Either or is a bad question, one of the reasons there are clear similarities between Mongolian and Georgian Judo is because they were both a part of Soviet Judo. The cross pollination of Soviet member and satellite states in Wrestling, Sambo and Judo is a story in and of itself, but you shouldn't be a slave to style as opposed to a connoiseur of technique until you've made a system that works for you as a person. Also people come to strange conclusions when they do, like justifying the orthodoxy of Japanese Judo when technically some of it is dubious.
@armazichagalidze36234 жыл бұрын
@@andrewferris1903 no really, georgian wrestling which is really similar to judo, started in 9th century, lot's of techniques cames from there, same with mongolians. Soviet judo, wrestling and even samba techniques, grippings, styles, are stolen from different country. And mongolia wasn't part of soviet union.

Dumb question, I'm just getting into the world of Judo: why in the hell did they ban the leg grabs? I hate when sports commissions make up stupid rules that far from improving the sport, they worsen it. It's like Karate, I love that martial art, bur half of wkf's rules are nonsense to me.

I actually did a judoka profile on Iliadis he fled the country back when it was the Soviet Union, very young, but he still trains with Georgians like Gviniashvili, he obviously didn't forget his roots, I'd say he's Greco/Georgian, funny you brought up Mbappe as an analogy, I like PSG.

It is a weaknesses of Judo sometime you land in a bad position from some throws. In Judo you win and the match is over in MMA you are on the bottom. I remember that would happen Karo Parisian all the time but the throws were so beautiful I didn't care.
@louisjolliet33694 жыл бұрын
I am myself a recreative judoka and it knocks my wind off just watching most of these throws :-) Do not underestimate the impact and do not forget that the persons being thrown in these vids are all extremely high level judoka as well, strong and know how to fall. Average joe would get KOed by most these throws on tatami. "In the streets", as you put it, average joe would get crippled.
@scarred102 жыл бұрын
They would throw any non elite grappler with ease on the street with any throw they wish ,what yoire seeing here are competition strategies against other elite judoka.
