Topdon TOPSCAN OBD2 Scanner Review

In this video I review TopScan OBD2 Scanner from TopDon. I explain how scanner works, I try it on a Toyota CH-R to test the coverage. I show you how to read the codes, data stream, special functions and active test. I perform the actuation test on a couple of systems like EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) and Power Window. The I explain all technical support materials on the scanner including OBD2 codes support, TSB (Technical Service Bulletins), DLC location and Warning light library.

I bought two obd2 scanners last year, they were both not good. Until a friend of mine but this topscan recently, I saw him testing it on a couple of different cars, it was very good, way better than other ones I had tried. I haven't bought it yet, but I definitely will. Thanks for the video.

The question is how much is it to access the software after 12 months. All the suppliers say free software for 12 months, but what happens after 12months does the unit turn into a brick until you pay an unlock fee for another 12 months and how much. Ive seen some OBDB2 scanners forcing you to pay a subscription for every car you wish to connect it to and ends up being extremely expensive. The other issue is some ODB2 scanners are only usable on recent models and are not comparable for some deisel and some makes older than 5 years.

Hi my friend. Normally scan tool companies provide one year of free update when we buy the scanner, and after that, we must pay for the new update, not for the existing software. So, if we don't pay for the new updates, software should keep working. I have a scan tool that I haven't updated for the last three years and it's still working fine. If any company asks you to pay annually, that's a subscription and it's not common. I wouldn't buy a scanner with subscription. Check it with the seller before buying.

This does not work correctly with VW, i.e. report and datastream. Topdon do not have a solution.

I haven't tested it on VW yet, for sure I will ASAP and let everyone know here. But I have on multiple cars (Toyota, KIA, Ford, Peugeot) and I found it's coverage very good. The other scanners with this price range cover very general functions.
