My absolute favorite Batman moment happened somewhere early in New 52, where his training with (I think) Lady Shiva. He is fighting in the pit, and is not allowed to exit it until either he dies, or he kills someone. Shiva makes the remark how he will be forced to abandon his silly ideology of not killing, only to be informed by one of her minions how no one dares enter the pit anymore. They've all become deathly terrified of the Batman.

He knew that Superman, knowing his closest and best friend in the entire galaxy was about to die, would wait until Batman wouldn't resist being rescued, and then rescue him. And that was the only way to get the watchtower on target and get everyone out alive.

In the JL/JLU cartoon he had even MORE Thug Life moments. - when he saves Supes from a kryptonite missile - when he owned Amanda Waller (leader of Project Cadmus) by sneaking into her highly guarded house and had a good talk with her - when he let the Joker and the Injustice Gang capture him to keep tabs on them - another one when he told the Flash exactly how to defuse a timebomb all the while he was fistfighting with members of the first Royal Flush Gang - and again when he and Supes were manhandling a couple of villains while casually talking about -Captain Marvel- "Shazam" - etc

"Then you're damn fools!" I agree with The Batman, he's just being pragmatic, they've obviously faced foes with the ability to possess, they've even fought evil versions of themselves from alternate earths. And the way you neutralize Batman is to give him no time to prepare at all. If Superman just out of the blue bumrushed him, he might be able to kill him, but this is assuming that Batman isn't expecting this, and Superman is coming at him super sonic from an odd trajectory, like from straight underneath him.
