Touch screens are fine if they are used for very minor things that you can only do when the car is sitting still but when they are used for driving they are dangerous. I have cars with touch screens in them and they simply are useless at best when driving and you cannot use them. Operating the aircon through a touch screen is a sin.

@@dyent You are missing the point here. Yes the Speedtail will probably be faster but who cares? Like Gordon Murray said it's all about how the car DRIVES, not about performance figures. The only thing that makes the Speedtail standout from the rest of the pack is it's 3 seats - it's performance numbers aren't even that amazing when you compare it to the big dogs. Not really he's just doing what engineers do by nature which is finding problems and correcting them. Murray was limited by the (vs today's standards) crude tech and the fact he was having to do everything under the auspices of Ron Dennis, then owner of Mclaren plus a limited budget and schedule limitations so there were certain things he wasn't able to do. With the T50 the computing, materials science etc has improved massively in the three decades since the F1 made its presence known to the world plus it's under the umbrella of his own company so the T50 was always going to be a superior product than it's immediate predecessor.

What I enjoyed the most about this episode were the quotes, "The last great analog supercar." and "We are going to try and make the best drivers car there's ever been." Brilliant and simple goals that lead to one of the most unique cars ever. Bummer that only 80-90 of these were ever made. I would love to go for a drive in one and experience that V12 induction sound. That's what I prefer from an N/A engine is the induction noises over a LOUD exhaust. The last bit I enjoyed the most is when Gordon Murray was talking about how much he drove His personal F1. That he likes to use what He owns. That's amazing since I've seen too many sports cars sit in someone's garage looking pretty. The point of owning such great machines is to experience them for yourself. (: Thank you for making this video and sharing it with us on KZbin. Excited to see this car being tested by the motoring press. (:

I've been following Gordon Murray since his early days at Brabham. He's an elite tier car designer, no question. This man knows how to design a car. And he thinks outside the box. I love is philosophy, and he understands that more isn't necessarily better. What a genius.

I respect the hell out of Gordon. He’s old skool through & through... i love the fact that he still favours mechanical analogue over digital. Digital has no feel. It’s soulless. The F1 has it faults, but it was built with 1980’s technology... It’s still my No.1 supercar of all time. The sound of that BMW V12 is the pinnacle of natural aspiration. The way Gordon’s talking about the T50, it sounds amazing, I can’t wait to see it in anger. I just wish it inherited more of the F1’s looks. The F1 has a presence like no other car. The T50 just looks a bit too “vanilla” for me.

@@justoreynav.8625 Honestly I think those guys at Bugatti have done a miraculous job of saving weight everywhere else right down to the windshield wipers keeping the weight under 2 Tons while still keeping up the luxury standards. But such a big engine and transmission and AWD is what causes the car to be so big and heavy in the first place. The Koenigsegg transmission is a world wonder that it can transmit 1600 HP at 90 kilos. The XTrac manual in the T50 is 80 kilos for goodness sake.

Can you guys see what Top Gear did here? It's genius, really. Due to this new car, Gordan Murray has been through the media circuit saying the same things over and over again. You can see it in his other reviews - he's becoming a bit of a cardboard cutout of himself. It makes for boring uninspiring interviews. So what did Top Gear do? Pulled some strings, did a lot of research and found the exact thing that would break Gordan out of that cardboard cutout and "humanize" him again. They pulled a BIG HAMMER! And that was his XP3 F1. You can tell by his initial shock and his softer, loving tone that selling that car was an incredibly painful decision. I bet it was Gordan's decision to never see that XP3 again. This for fear of a desire to reacquire it and then have to go through the pains that had caused him to originally sell it. So he'd probably put it out of his mind, even though it would never leave his heart and he'd always feel pain for its loss. And then suddenly, unexpectedly, it's in front of him once again. And we get to watch his shock and watch as he falls in love with it again. Top Gear is really good at what they do. I can't deny that, no matter how much Grand Tour I watch.

If you actually think about it, most of us will own a car with 300 hp max, that will weigh at least 1,5 tonnes. I mean compared to hypercars and modern supercars this cars numbers will not blow you away, but let's be honest, do we need a thousand horsepower, where you need several computers to control, and 250 mph top speed? Very very few people will ever even have the chance to even use all of that. On the other hand the T.50 weighs 980kg and has over 600 hp. That's insane and looking at regualr cars still an untouchable monster. I feel like 650hp is more or less the perfect amout of power for such a car, and it will drive brilliantly. It will basically be what the GT86, BRZ and FRS are just in supercar class. Stats don't impress anyone but those things drive unspeakably well.

The T.50 is like a stunning piece of product design where everything has a purpose. Not too 'flashy' because it doesn't need to be, just functional enough and happens to look gorgeous.

untitled795 Facts? You’re a jackass. What “facts” are you talking about? You’re the kind of idiot that would say one painting is objectively better than an other. This is art and performance, feeling is more important. Also “these days” just makes you sound stupid. People have never changed. They are no different today as 100 years ago, not in personality or behavior.

Is it really a successor or is it a reimagining? I do not think it is possible to really build a successor to the F1 with today's technology and corporate investment available.

At long last, A true successor to the legendary McLaren F1

I love that when Gordon Murray talks about the F1 you can tell that when he was making the car he really took into consideration how it would actually be as a driver's car. He was thinking about repair costs and how long the car would last. It was not merely an art piece or technical demonstration of the latest technologies that are all too immature to be reliable in any way, Gordon really thought about the kind of "insane" driver that wants a supercar to drive every day, keep for many years, and not have it in the shop every 3 months.

The Speedtail is the fastest production car to 250 MPh. Will the T.50 get there faster? EDIT - How dare anyone ask about the speed of a super-car. People forgot that the f1 was the 1st production car to over 240 mph. I get it. driving experience and feel. I am not denying that in any way. I enjoy speed. I will never drive a T.50
@simpleman8883
@simpleman8883 3 жыл бұрын
Dennzer1 the T.50 isn’t about top speed, it’s about the overall experience, how it feels when driven, it has stickshift, no driver aids, and the list goes on, it has more similarities to the F1, and is the rightful successor.
