Clarkson understood who the X Type was marketed at so he never slagged it off because it did the job of being an entry level Jaguar perfect. Unfortunately there were a lot of morons in the press who were expecting the X Type to be a £20k Jaguar XJ. Fools

@@LowEndPCGamer100 facts... when i was looking to buy an stype or xtype i was looking at various... unfortunatly i couldnt find one with a manual transmission where i live... so i opted with a 2.0d cuz i couldnt also find a decent 2.2d... i thought of a 2.5 or a 3.0 but petrol here is 7 bucks a gallon... bit pricey... but ye... its been an amazing car so far... reliability is so good... only had a major problem on the dealer... but it was before it was sold and they showed the receipts... had a fuel pump put on, injectors, sensors, egr valve... then in warranty needed a camshaft sensor... and after that a crankshaft pulley for the serpentine belt... nothing crazy... its smooth, has the power when you put your foot down... all i do is yearly maintenence... filters and oil changes... Its one of the best cars ive had so far. And everything still works too... the eletric adjustable seats, the AC, the defrost front and rear windows, the eletric door mirrors... there one or two rattles but nothing that will annoy you... Compared to an audi or a bmw... Its way better and more comfortable.

I'm surprised the X-Type didn't do better - it was aimed at the upper end (but obvs not the top end) of the company car market - and while there was strong competition from Audi A3s, Series 3 Beemers, and the C Class Merc - the X-Type was a good bit cheaper and was based on a platform that fleet managers had absolute trust in for years. Putting Jaguar styling and trim on a tried and tested bombproof Ford undercarriage seems like an absolute no-brainer to me.

@@5ynthesizerpatelI think the Rover 75 wounded the X-Type somewhat. Same segment of the market, doing the same retro-British luxury car gimmick. However BMW and Rover did a much better job than Ford and Jaguar did. Hell the 75 is more frequently compared to the more expensive S-Type over it's actual rival. That says a lot. It was it's own unique platform, not reworking something else in the range like Ford did. The X-Type will forever (unfairly) be painted as the Mondeo Vanden Plas even though it's fairly far detached from the Mondeo.
@5ynthesizerpatel
@5ynthesizerpatel Жыл бұрын
@@lazzie7495 I don't disagree that counted against the X for the civilian market. But company car fleet managers and buyers ( which was the market which the X Type was aimed at) - tend to be pretty pragmatic and less prone to emotional purchases. There's a difference between winter tyres & studded tyres. My winter tyres look pretty much like the normal ones except that they have chunkier tread and are made of a softer compound. Studded tyres only tend to be used in places like Norway, where they can have permanent snow over the winter months.

Yes, there are always too many silly reasonably priced four wheel drive manual sporty estates on the market. We' need more gorgeous cars that are designed to look like a practical off road sports coupe based on hatchback but with chopped rear headroom and a raised center of gravity and 18 inch wheels to loo like a hypercar offering decreased practiality, increased price, poor accident avoidance capability and ride. Estates are silly, who needs a vehicle that can actually be practical, technically capable and efficient in one package if you can legitimately sell more niche vehicles that create almost 50 percent or just about 10 tons more co2 under production than an old conventional vehicle and label it as a zero emission vehicle because upmarket world saving overpriced child slave labor cobalt and nickel mining product is just what a millennial needs, another cliche

@@polomarco7053 I freaking love my X-Type estates. I use plural as a garage didn't put coolant in and I had to get a new one. The diesel ones range is phenominal if you don't accelerate like a delinquent. Less stress on the car too. A comfortable car that has masses of storage space, great for car seats, can handle snow and loose surfaces with it's balance and is easy to get in and out. As for maintainence there are many parts in common with a mondeo so they are cheaper than Jaguar OEM parts keeping the costs down and they are a solid car. Reliability is good as well. 4wd does beat fwd cars even driving a circle like gymkhana and being on snow, theoretically they should have the same grip cause its g-force on 4wheels, but if the 4wd does any powerslide its bye bye for front wheel drive. We tested this with my friend, he drove his Evo9 on snow, and I drove a chrysler neon that weighs 240kg less (should have better weight/side grip on snow tyres) but he was way faster when drifting, couldnt keep up at all:)

Yep the great advantage of AWD. Next step is to put faster cars (better yet, supercars) like the Nissan GT-R through these conditions and see how well they go (I wonder what other supercars can handle these conditions?)

It's more about highway instability, I live really far from my home because of school and my mom's FWD car actually had exactly that heart stopping moment Clarkson talks about in the video. It's actually scary, and it's just because of how FWD works (all the power in the front without traction, and the back wheels just dragging uselessly). Luckily mine is a 4wd. Actually the saloon version of this car xD

people in this country don't get snow, if we get threats of even a small flurry people assume the world is going to end and they empty shop shelves. Plus people don't know how to drive, if I'm coming up a hill with parked cars, people will still come down, so I lose momentum and can't keep going...

We just had two foot of snow in the Colorado foothills. It was a non-event---hardly even a nuisance. And my AWD Volvos did great, even when I was on a road where the snow was winning against the snow-plows.

Ι love Non-SUVs AWD cars - especially a stock STi Impreza bug eye. That car leaves a wide 😮 expression on your face everytime you encounter an uphill 40% road covered in ice. A 1999 Vitara, a 2003 Yaris couldn't even reach halfway. Meanwhile the Subi was having the time of its life. You always think you are going to get stuck and roll all the way down, and it always makes it!

I think that as long as you have good snow tires on a 2WD vehicle, it's just as capable as a 4WD one with regular tires. Most vehicles that end up wrecked in a ditch where I live are 4x4 trucks and SUVs because their drivers get overconfident and lose control. I, too, had a ski trip (except in the Colorado Rockies) and our friend's Camry drove in the mountains better than my dad's SUV.

Unlike AWD where the back spins faster than the front. Such as in the R8. Also 4wd often has a Low Gear range. The reason why they call it 4wd is because they are using it as a slang and they are trying to buy you on the idea of it. The two systems are alike, but in the Automotive industry, the differences are very important and should always be remembered.

For all 2 days of snow we get a year right? People don't even bother with winter tyres because its just not cold enough here. I just let 2 PSI out of all my tyres if it snows so that they have a larger contact patch and are softer on the ground.

I understand this being a direct competitior with the 3-series and C-Class estates, with it's 4WD, but the Audi A4 estate that Jeremy mentioned earlier also comes with 4WD, not to mention a 3.0L V6, which is larger than the Jag's 2.5L. Maybe the A4 has less room in the boot though.
