I know they're in completely different categories and from different eras, but performance and beauty can coexist; LaFerrari captures both aspects and so did the Mclaren F1 and the Lotus Exige. There are so many cars that do. I'd say cars are one of the few usable products where looks are equal in importance to performance.

Had these cars gone on general sale and all were already spoken for I'd agree with you, but Ferrari offer these cars to their most loyal (read as rich) customers. There is also a huge element of value speculation involved. It will be interesting to know whether these F80s are truly limited to 800 vehicles or whether they will be like the Enzo.

My problem is that, since electrification, acceleration figures have become completely irrelevant to me. I can't stand hearing that a car goes from 0 to 100 in 2-point-something seconds anymore. We get it-every car manufacturer can build super-fast, perfect cars. But somehow, it feels like they’re missing the point, especially with regard to what customers and fans like us actually want. We want emotions, not V6 or V8 biturbos that make over 1,000 horsepower with hybrid systems. That doesn't impress anyone anymore. We want cars that look good and sound great, ones that evoke emotion. Just because it lost value doesn’t mean it’s failed. The majority of supercars lose value in the decade after they come out. The P1 was a terrible investment for years. The Ford GT was selling for like 100,000 dollars at one point. The SF90 is still faster than any of its competitors and potentially looks better too. It’ll come back around. At least it’s not impossible to start like the revuelto which regularly leaves people stranded. And it’s faster in a straight line and on track.

Whereas Ferrari and other exotic brands have always had massive cylinder counts (welll, usually at least 8) in their flagship cars, so when they start downsizing it seems like a downgrade. Additionally, though I know it has nothing to do with the actual performance, the sound of a screaming V12 is something I’ve always associated with brands like Ferrari. I don’t expect a V6 to sound anything like that.

For another, the mountain roads around here (SoCal) are tight and bumpy. Big power and top speed mean squat when the corners are 100 yards apart. Unpopular opinion: I think it looks amazing (perhaps minus the black band across the front and black wheels). The rear quarter and vents above the engine look epic. Yes it’s a V6 but tbh it makes perfect sense considering their F1 and Endurance cars are also V6. Having attended the Le Mans 24h this year I thought the 499P sounded pretty good actually. At the end of the day it has more power and will be much faster than the LaF. People forget that the latest Ford GT was also a V6 and that was also very controversial given the big V8 that is so connected with the name. All that said and done, not a single one of us in the comments can afford one, even if they weren’t sold out. It’s a cool piece of technology and I think more extreme and better looking than the W1. Let’s see what Porsche come out with!
