Last month I found Machaboo’s write-up on neutral and I started trying to convert the ideas to smash ideas in my head. Little did I know there was a 4-year-old video that did it already.

Aaah I subscribe to the hugs philosophy on neutral, I know my moves, I know my opponents moves, I'm a top player and don't need to explain neutral to you plebs

This helped me a lot. for a long time, I've just been practicing moving around and getting comfortable with moving around and now I'm trying to learn mind games and learn neutral well and this helped me understand it a lot. So, thank you Toph!

Really cool video and well spoken. We need more content and discussions like this to raise the level of understanding the broader community has about what's actually going on in high level melee

I would love an extended discussion on cheese in Smash/other fighting games! The way I think about cheese is low-effort high-reward. So if a Sheik just sits in the corner shielding and mindlessly spams shield-grab, that's cheese, because it takes little effort and can lead to an easy kill. That doesn't mean EVERY shield grab in the corner is cheese, because if you mix it up well and are consciously thinking about spacing/player habits and that stuff, then you're actually putting in effort and making a calculated decision. But I'm interested to hear if other people understand it differently.

Your explanation makes this concept so much easier to digest than someone simply saying "melee is rps." The reasoning and examples you give have given me so many ideas to work with. Looking forward to seeing more videos soon!

Been playing since 2016 and I JUST NOW FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS... I pick scissors and get mad at a rock user because I always pick scissors and it's just brute force. As fox, drift back drill is so good, I literally heard how good it was at my first tournament way back in 2016 but I saw mango just go in and I thought that was the sickest way to play. 7 years later, I'm down to walk my own path. This really really helps me learn scenarios that I'm constantly getting punished in, and DAY ONE I'm adapting. Best Toph video ever.

Loved this, great explanations. I always thought the neutral triangle was grab/attack/shield but that didn’t feel right, these 3 make much more sense. More abstract and intentions based, also sooooo applicable to pretty much anything competitive

I had just read Machabo's article earlier this week and even though i don't play guilty gear, apart from the examples, I felt most of what was in there. I'm really noob when it comes to fg's still, but reading that helped think of my decisions better and more. Great video, Toph!

So basically if someone has a glaring Hole in there Nuetral, dont punish it and keep throwing out options and occasionally beat the Opening they leave but because you are throwing out so many different options they get confused to what they are actually losing to and dont adapt as fast
