I remember, after Street Fighter 3 came out already, I was hanging out at the arcade in the mall and a guy approached me asking if I wanted to be a part of a focus group and answer some questions. I, of course, went and me and, like, 5 other guys were led to this small room with a table and they asked us a bunch of questions mainly about Street Fighter. They asked if we wanted a new Street Fighter. They wanted to know what other fighting games we played. But most of all I remember them asking if we wanted a new Street Fighter to be 3D or 2D. I was adamant about wanting it to be 2D. I remember feeling a little upset because several of the others said no new Street Fighter and wanted it to be like Tekken and for them to have swords and guns. I was paid something, I think it was like $5. I'm glad Capcom didn't listen to those other guys.

Capcom did make that Final Fight fighting game on the Saturn which DID have guns and such, if I'm not mistaken. They probably used that game to test the waters. Glad none of that nonsense crossed over to the Street Fighter series.

In the short run it affected heavily having neither one or two but three SF series going at the same time in the second half of the 90s with SF Alpha and the Marvel crossovers making SF III and EX series footnotes instead of the franchise's main focus. SF III also suffered from being imposible to port on 5th generation consoles due to how overpowered the CPS 3 hardware was and remained as an arcade exclusive in it's prime years until the Dreamcast.

I remember back in the 90s there were rumors that Street Fighter EX was also at one point considered the be Street Fighter III but during its development they changed the name. Not sure how true this is though I guess the only way to be sure would be to see an original design document for EX. This does happen often however if you look at the design documents for Final Fight they say Street Fighter II on them.

what's ironic is that even though this game (the arcade version specifically) is considered subpar by street fighter standard and a Mortal Kombat wannabe, it is more innovative and actually plays better than any of the digitized MK games. a lot of fighting game standards have their roots in this game, EX moves, OTGs, juggle launchers, heck there's even a sub system that allows you to recover a few health in exchange for super bar.

The "Lost "SF3 was never going to be SF3. It was going to be Street Fighter the Movie : The Game. The people they got to do it wasn't part of capcom. CPS-3 Couldn't handle Digital Graphics. The people were told "Your going to be working on 'the newest street fighter game' " They thought it was SF3. The guys at capcom said "This is the first i'm hearing about it" (this was like 18 years later) They had a REALLY hard time getting all of the actors for Street Fighter The movie to come to the studio to be scanned, it took way longer than it should have, and YES Shen Long was Approved, and the Footage was recorded. But they simplely did not have the time, Like i said it took them MONTHS to get all of the actors in there to be scanned with Dalsam not even choosing to come in, The Production for the Movie was a Nightmare, if you google it im sure you can look up all of the issues they had in Thailand.

My only problems with Street Fighter III: • Its lack of I, II and Zero veterans. Capcom learned from that mistake which is why SFIV, SFV & SF6 has more fulfilled and satisfying rosters. • Capcom would rather put some off-brand emo dooshbag named Remy into the game instead of making Guile's teenaged daughter Amy/Chris playable. • Eagle, Maki and Ingrid should've appeared in the PS2 and XBOX versions of 3rd Strike (alongside Yun & Yang) instead of appearing in Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper & Double Upper.
