Ironically the night/day variants of open-air stages came to be true in MK9 with The Pit and The Courtyard having night and day versions. Ying Yang Island in Mortal Kombat Deception was somehow a transition before the full-fledgled version because the stage would randomly switch between day and night.
@AnastasioMedia Жыл бұрын
MK on the SNES had great graphics and arcade sound, however the controls were horrible and had a delayed response.I had both the Genesis and Super Nintendo versions and loved them each for what they brought. The reworked fatalities didn't bother me that much and although Sub-Zero's head rip is iconic, his freeze/break fatality looked amazing. Never heard of this Nitro Edition and if it exists, I would love for someone to dump the rom online. I still play these from time to time on emulators, and the version I have for the SNES has the palette swapped red sweat for blood.

I remember my local newspaper back then ran an article claiming that there was going to be a new version of mortal Kombat 1 for the super Nintendo with violence and fatalities. Being a little kid at the time and keeping up with the shit as much as you could back then- I had never heard such nonsense and it flew in the face of everything I was reading in all the mags. I clipped the article out of my newspaper and I sent it in to EGM for their take. I don't quite remember what they said but it did get published! Clearly looking back this never got released lol. But it's an interesting thing to see a video about. I guess they were working on a version with the fatalities and blood. That was the only thing keeping the super Nintendo version back.

Around the time of Trilogy on PlayStation, there was a kind of internet joke about a version of Trilogy called Nitro edition. The joke part was the claim that current consoles (Playstation, N64, and Saturn at the time) were 'not powerful enough' and 'couldn't handle' this new version, so it would be released on the 'far superior' consoles. Those named were Atari 2600, Magnavox Odyssey, and Fairchild Channel F. This was during the days of Geocities, Yahoo, and HotBot. That seems to have been the kind of online hoax the 90s internet was full of for video game enthusiasts.

I think the Super Nintendos altered finishers aren’t bad. Like Sub-Zeros precursor to the Deep Freeze fatality. I was a Genesis kid (still am) so that version is the one I know very very well. I played it with and without the blood codes just to see the censored versions of those finishers, and I can tell you, they’re nowhere near as creative. Johnny cage just does a shadow kick, and Sub-Zero just does an uppercut. I’d certainly would like to play a Nitro Edition, just to again, compare

If MK Nitro for the SNES looked as good as the Competition Edition and added blood, but played like the Genesis/Mega Drive version... It would have been amazing. But, looking back on what was proposed... It would have been a waste of money for owners of the original. It could have had a future as a Rental Store Exclusive like EA did with Madden Football Championship Edition. And it would more than likely have become a saught after collectible today. Im glad the focus was put on MKII for the SNES. That was an almost perfect port. One of the best ever for the time for any system. Unless you had a NEO GEO... But even then, the home version games from that system lacked features of the Arcade.
