He actually explained how he communicates with himself while autopiloting to ensure more consistency. Basically self-encouragement creates a mental note somewhere that he is doing something successful in the given situation, in the future his mind clings to said mental note and quickly results in him not only performing better typically but being able to recognize a similar situation more efficiently and deal with it less strenuously. It sounds kooky on paper, but the concept in execution is ironically a lot less. It's actually something basic that most people should have; self-confidence, self-encouragement, etc is very helpful. It's a similar philosophy to how something little may ruin or define your day. A little self-encouragement when you do something cool, will likely allow you to keep doing so.
