I think S2J pays alot of attention to this sort of thing. He always gets out of pressure vs Fox and I think it's cause he's reacting with very deliberate defensive options depending on what his opponent is doing.

This is a pretty deep take. My answer to how to react to Wolf would just have been to do an anti-aerial/combo starter like up-tilt. It would have covered empty hop grab and landing aerial, and it would have led to a juggle situation.

true, and lots of wolf players respond to this by doing short hop to bait your anti air and then doing double jump > fast fall aerial to punish you. you can punish that by trying to air to air him which loses to the original short hop rising aerial from wolf and the cycle repeats itself. its insane how many layers just one situation has

Pro tip, most of these things are still "unreactable" like Toph said, you can still get strong naired, or land the empty hip and shield. but this gives you a few extra frames which can as Toph says "bend the RPS in your favor"
