Omg same! I slather myself with peppermint oil when I go into an itching frenzy. It's all I can do. I've tried calamine, anti-itch cream, benadryl, mosquito relief..... nothing. Even combined nothing worked. I know you're not supposed to put peppermint oil straight on but.... it works if you do. Lil cooling, lil sting, lil numbing. Boom. Perfect relief. Never even knew the itch was there. Tbf, I never did this on my face. I've only used it on my body parts so use at your own risk and don't rub your eye after.

@@kimberlykv4313 have you ever tried oats like a mask from the paste? It's one of the only things I could use for itchy skin when I got hives, although I know it's probably different. Peppermint and Rosemary oil do wonders for the itchiness as well but yeah for your face especially never just put on the oil, but you can dilute the oil with cold ice water. Just some tips!

I tried the faded serum after listening to all the hype and I am so glad I did. In just a few weeks it has turned around a nasty scar near my mouth. Other products helped but this one just cleared it up after I struggled with it for years. I read a review on the mists that said you should rub it in and that'll get rid of the stickiness. After my success with the faded serum I am going to try the body spray.

The Faded serum has helped me tremendously, HOWEVER, I feel like the batches are inconsistent, and the product oxidizes (my guess) over time. With a fresh tube, the smell is somewhat bearable, but as time goes on the smell gets worse. With my latest tube, I noticed a slight fragrance, and the smell wasn’t as bad as it normally is. I haven’t paid attention to the ingredients lately, so perhaps the formula has changed. If I remember correctly, coconut oil has always been an ingredient in the product, but perhaps they experimented with taking it out? Regardless, I still think it’s an effective product from personal experience! It’s a great alternative to a prescription product.

Faded has dramatically improved my melasma. It took a few months of regular use, but I'm much better off now. Nothing had helped before it. (Hydroquinone is supposed to be the gold standard, but I was too scared to give it a go.) I started using Faded after the folks at Doctorly recommended it. This is the first I've heard of any controversy and it is interesting to hear more about the product.

Hydroquinone is "not the devil". Watch Dr Dray's video on it, where she explainins why people are hesitant to use it, and how to use it effectively and safely. Also the illogical reason that it is no longer available of the shelf in the USA. The hydroquinone cream I use is the John Plunketts Superfade Original. The larger size original formula is the same formula as the smaller tube for the face, just more economical. I'm in Australia. 👱‍♀️❤

I'm so glad this was a mostly positive review; I LOVE these products! I stick to drugstore brands like LRP and CeraVe, but Faded and Like Butter (the serums -- definitely no interest in the sprays) are the two expensive products that I repeatedly purchase. Faded is to be used very lightly and you have to start slow and work your way up to avoid breakouts, but it has helped by hyperpigmentation by an insane degree. I use the Like Butter just the way you did: I put it on before bed and don't remove it. It makes my extremely dry skin so incredibly soft. I really enjoy both!

This was so helpful! I have seen them pop up in targeted ads and was curious about their products. This reminded me of a question I’ve been wondering about lately: what are the different coconut-derived ingredients that lean comedogenic and which are the coconut-derived ingredients that are usually refined enough not to trigger the traditional coconut sensitivity? Paula’s Choice lists some versions of coconut-based ingredients as unfairly vilified and not pore-clogging in general but I’m starting to get confused. Cocokind spf has coconut alkanes and that seems to be more traditionally seen as pore-clogging than others (and happened to cause breakouts in my skin). I know ingredient-based recommendations are sort of annoying, but is there like a “safe” list of coconut-derived ingredients vs. ingredients that are more commonly irritating? Just a question I’ve been coming up against as I try to focus on a hydrating mineral spf that does not cause clogged pores.

The Like Butter is in this month's Allure box. I have Lupus and eczema and was wondering if I'm actually going to take a chance and put this on my face. Turns out I am going to give it a shot after watching this. Also, the putting the fun in a flare statement isn't offensive to me personally. I have had moderate to severe eczema for almost 14 years now and the "fun in a flare up" part is boiling my blood. It is not fun at all. It is in fact crippling. I used to think that this should qualify as a disability because moving my arms and turning my neck to look over my shoulder while driving was incredibly uncomfortable and painful for me. Eczema, acne, rosacea, psoriasis and such conditions are not fun. Thank you for always having our back Dr. Dray.

I noticed maybe some improvement (rosacea, oil/combo skin with hyperpigmentation from freckles and acne), but not enough to continue. For people in the EU, you should try transparant lab's PIH sun spot fading treatment. It's a good dupe for faded and it is only 15 euros (also cruelty/animal products/fragrance free)! I've been using it for a few weeks now and I noticed a lot of improvement. The reduction in hyperpigmentation in 4/6 weeks was similar to what I would see in 2/3 months of prescription retinol and azelaic acid!

@@Trainfeastfast I mostely buy k beauty, because EU brand products tend to be expensive for what you get. The only brands I can think of apart from the famous EU brands that are not extremely overpriced are face theory, geek and gorgeous, niche beauty lab (they own transparant lab but also other brands), revox and korres.

Hi Dr. Dray! Could you review (if you haven't already) Supergoop SPF 50 Glow oil. I find most SPF products either irritate my skin (chemical SPF) or dry out my skin (Mineral SPF). I was wondering about the chemistry behind combining oil with SPF and if it's super hydrating like they advertise or a really bad combination. Thanks!

They have a Mini size! It’s about $18 which is the size I’ll try bc for 1. Budget! But 2. I don’t want/cannot spend that much on a cream if I’m sensitive & oily & have a potential of breaking out. And unlike Ulta idk if Sephora has a return policy bc any time I’ve had a bad reaction to a product I bought it specifically from Ulta JUST IN CASE I needed to return it bc trying things is such a hit or miss for me. But I need a stable routine but also need to figure out which products work for my skin vs those who don’t. So it’s the unfortunate gamble. 😕 Edit: also current list has the Brassylate in it. No Coconut Oil/or derivative. So I’m not sure if it’s a reformulation reformulation.

Looked up this video as soon as I was done putting the Faded Topicals as a mask. My experience with it is that it spreads nicely, leaves a glow, but much of it does not absorb into my skin (have tried on washed damp face or after serum or lotion) and begins to pill as soon as it dries, even with a very light coat. Another observation that I do not see discussed here is the VERY strong sulfur smell. I know sulfur can be good for acne, so I kind of enjoy it, but this and the pilling is why I use it as a mask now. I don’t know if it has been effective, since I also use Tretinoin (0.05, primary care) and hydroquinone 6% (Musely). If I had to simplify (i like to experiment, hey), I think consistently practicing a double cleanse, moisturize (love Eucerin, CeraVe, Aveeno, etc), sunscreen (UVB and UVA!!), hats, hats, hats, and tretinoin (love) has done (and will continue to do) the bulk (97%) of the work. Lol

Thank you for pointing out some of the potential fragrance issues. I haven’t had problems and I’ve been using for a month. I believe one of the founders of the brand has eczema. I did find the spray a bit sticky, but used less and rubbed in more and not experiencing that anymore. It’s already working for the hyperpigmentation on my legs.

Dr Dray, I keep seeing constant adverts for Augustinas Bader products pop up on KZbin. The advertising seems more ruthless than usual with this brand. I looked them up out of interest and the products are extortionate. So glad that experts like yourself show us there's no need to covet these items and spend so much money.

I prefer the Level Serum from Regimen Labs. It has similar ingredients to the Faded one. I rotate between Level Serum and Milano CC (vit c serum) every morning. Foĺlowed by SPF 🌞. Ive definitely seen a difference in terms of sun damage, ance scars, dullness and hyperpigmentation.

@@maddiehox77 i dont have active acne anymore but I do (did) have acne scarring. I can barely see them many more. I saw results from Milano CC Serum in under a month, no joke. I used that for about 2 years before i bought The Level Serum. So its hard to say because my skin had already pretty much evened out prior to using it. But The Level has helped even more. Its great stuff, a great list of ingredients.

I have eczema and they posted a pic on their Twitter acct showing a before/after of a user eczema scar clearing up. I literally purchased faded for this reason and it did nothing!! I now use it on my body to not waste product, but I was very underwhelmed. I knew I didn't want the body sprays. That's a lot of money already spent. The faded stunk really bad so apparently they reformulated it. Maybe that's where the confusion about the fragrance is coming from. I have a tube from when they first launched & threw my box out so I can't confirm the ingredients either. I won't be purchasing again. FYI, the Skinsmart antimicrobial spray has faded and overall helped my eczema more that Topicals. Anyone reading this that has eczema should run and get that spray! I just put Vaseline on top after I spray and voila!

I got Faded due to the impressive ingredient deck. Seems like it contained all the active ingredients to treat hyperpigmentation. However, I have abandoned using it with about half tube left because 1) the sulfur smell, 2) greasy and slides around, never seems to soak in, 3) didn’t notice much improvement. It is possible they added fragrance now since the earlier version that I got had really strong unpleasant smell that lingers.

I’ve been hoping you would one day review the “Topicals” products! Fortunately, I don’t have discoloration on my face or neck, but I DO have it on my chest and arms-so that’s where I use the “Faded” cream. However, I find that it has a dreadful odor, which it off-putting! If I could get past it, I would certainly I use it much more frequently!
