I remember watching this as a kid and did not really understand what was going on. And now understanding it as a adult it really hits deep how sad this movie actually was. They need to make another Hulk movie with the same depth as the comics.

I can't even comprehend how there are humans on this planet that don't IMMEDIATELY call this the best live action Hulk by a landslide... The best cgi model, the most accurate to the comics (back when comics were good), pays homage to campy comic moments and stills, a unique and fitting combination origin for both Bruce's father and Absorbing Man into 1 character, and the BRILLIANTLY done Take It All scene which actually gives you a glimpse of what would become World Breaker Hulk (leaking energy from pure power). The campiness of this version would've EASILY fit well into the MCU and had a much cooler fight with Thanos. I do still like the other live action Hulks, but the Ed Norton one is just SO ugly looking in comparison. His model moves quicker, but still feels much much weaker. The ONLY reason I can possibly comprehend humans liking him more is due to being biased that he is in the MCU or they have a weird hate for Ang Lee's film being TOO much like a comic (which is a good good great thing)... My father and I have rewatched this film more times than I could possibly remember, especially him, as the biggest Hulk fan and collector of comics.

@@HulktySSJ2 I prefer 2003 too, we’re following Bruce as he loses control, his life goes down the toilet, and he uncovers his past. The Hulk is so energetic in every scene. It ended on a cliff hanger as well. 2008 Hulk was a bit too mild mannered for me, and his design looked strange (turns handsome, and has visible muscle fibres). The story was meh, at the start he’s a fugitive, 5 minute Blonksy fight, and at the end he is still a fugitive. Basically nothing changed. I loved Abomination though, best part of the movie, what a badass.

At 1:53 Bruce’s Dad says “That’s right, keep fighting, the more you fight, the more of you I take”. As a kid, I thought he was just talking about his super powers. But now as an adult who has had some traumatic experiences with an absent father, it makes much more sense. It wasn’t just about the power, it was Bruce’s life as a whole. This whole time Bruce was essentially held prisoner to trauma he experienced from his father. And the more energy Bruce gave to his father and those past memories, the more he was unable to experience the goodness of life around himself. So the more Bruce fights with these past traumas, the more it’s robs him of his livelihood and ability to experience a happy life. This movie is so underrated it’s not even funny. People want to shit on it for the Jolly Green Giant Hulk CGI, but honestly it’s better than anything the MCU has put out in regards to Hulk. This is one of my personal favs.

What makes me enjoyed the ending more is the metaphor of how intense Bruce’s trauma, anger and hatred which becomes so unbearable to his father it ends up killing him. Speaks volume of how much he hated his father and I’m sure during the last of his father’s moments absorbing he sees and feels exactly why Bruce felt all these intense feelings. Kind of like a ‘fuck you’ to his father hence “You think you can live with it? Take it” and his father just couldn’t live with the immeasurable amount of anger and trauma he gave Bruce. It’s not that deep really but I absolutely adore not taking things as surface value

I don’t know if anyone has already said this in the comments, but this scene is powerful for a couple reasons. Obviously I think he wants the Hulk part of him to be taken away so he doesn’t have to live with that part of him anymore, but I also believe that because it shows his memories forming just before he screams ‘take it all’ that it also means he wants all the painful memories gone. Just an outstanding movie. Very underrated.

This movie understood that Hulk is a tortured soul. Underneath all the super strength, destruction, rage and green gamma radiation is a scared and angry child. A child that's constantly watching everything he loves and cares for be taken away from him in the cruelest ways possible. As a kid watching this, I was too young to understand what it is that I felt for Hulk, but I definitely felt something. Usually I felt sad for Hulk, or just didn't understand the gravity of the events transpiring and their implications for how deeply scarred it left Bruce's mind. But now I can see the awful reality that is Hulk's existence, and it hits deep.

I've always thought that "TAKE IT ALL" doesn't just refer to the power of the Hulk. It's Bruce's pain, his trauma, all that emotional pain that turned him into the green monster. Bruce's dad can't absorb his son's pain, he doesn't understand it, he can't do it. It's such a big pain to have witnessed your father kill your mother. Bruce's dad doesn't consider this, and is defeated by the trauma it caused to his son. A beautiful movie

I always felt like I understood the whole power absorbing and giving aspect of this scene as a kid, but having just rewatched the film, I realize just how poetic it truly is. A big theme of the movie is the pain and fear and loneliness passed on from father to child. A family torn apart by ambition and ego. The trauma that Bruce inherited from his father is so immense, it’s why he’s the Hulk in the first place; all that he got from his father, it made him different his whole life, the trauma transformed him metaphorically and literally. And here, his father wants it back, but for Bruce, that trauma and rage is depthless, and his father has no inkling of how deep and powerful it is. The “You think you can live with it?” Is all the more powerful, plus the fact that his father can’t take it, can’t handle even a taste of it.

I watched this yesterday, and i've never been so split & saddened by this fight. More so than i was during Endgame, deadass. *The movie started with them play fighting with stuffed animals when Bruce was a child, PLAY fighting.* Now they're crashing through Thunderclouds in a scuffle like Greek GODS, fighting each other, struggling. David wanted to cure Bruce first, afraid of what he'd become or mutate into because of his own (David's) actions, now he's obsessed with taking what Bruce has, the same thing he was afraid of. Mainly to combat Ross & The Gov. Organization that put him away, the same ones that took away his chance to possibly cure Bruce; Which lead to him storming into that house to enact a bizarre decision to mercy kill his boy, sealing Edith's fate. She would be heartbroken to see them fighting like this.

This fight is actually great... Absorbing man grabs hulk and takes him to a remote location in an attempt to isolate him and steal his power. Hulk tries to out-strength AM but this doesn't work because AM just absorbs whatever he's impacted with. Hulk shows a submission to Banner as Hulk realizes he needs Banner's mind to defeat this enemy. AM pulls Hulk underwater where Hulk cannot escape and holds Hulk there to absorb his power. AM's power increases as he saps Hulk's strength--this causes AM to absorb the energy of his surroundings. Banner and Hulk work together to fight AM, with Banner legitimately wanting to be relieved of his curse. As Hulk gains power the angrier he gets, the power just kept increasing more and more. AM had a maximum capacity that he could absorb and the nuke just pushed him past his limit. It's like over-charging a battery until it explodes.

@Great White Cat In the 1988 film Akira, a young Japanese boy called Tetsuo is experimented on by his government and develops psychic powers. These powers grow beyond his control and end up destroying his body and he ends up as a mass of blood flesh. Yeah, it's weird. But anime that isn't weird isn't anime

I consider this directly connected to Hulk 2008. This film shows how Hulk transformed and after his dad went essentially crazy, Bruce basically didn’t talk about his family history at all compared to the other Avengers, who all have families, except Black Widow, who USED to have a family.

This is how Hulk should be portrayed, as a horror in some sense because his strength is infinite and scary. Only his humanity (Bruce Banner) stops him from being a total monster. The mental illness that would result from this as Hulk is what should be portrayed. He should be feared by the audience but understood as well because the transformation is really a tragedy. No one should leave a Hulk movie wanting to be Hulk.

Just the sheer amount of power the Hulk has is remarkable, the way they showed it to us, how the power within him is not just the power of Hulk but the combination of the trauma that Bruce has faced throughout his life, how much the two feed on each other and build up into this massive green destructive creature, truly extraordinary. And then there is Joss Whedon's Hulk...

@@lordraiden7397 He is the strongest hulk in the MCU. Incredible Hulk is my fav one cause he looks like a beast but this hulk is the most accurate. Literally he got bigger the angrier he got and was almost the size of a house. He was 13 or 15 ft tall, compare to 8ft from the other hulks, and obviously gets stronger as he grows. He has a healing factor as well which the other 2 hulks, incr. and avenger hulk don’t have.

Ang Lee, Eric Bana, Louis Leterrier, and Edward Norton, understood the complexity, and emotional and psychological anguish of Bruce Banner and Hulk. They understood that Hulk was just a manifestation of Banner’s trauma, a monstrous amalgamation of his suffering. 03’s Hulk and 08’s The Incredible Hulk are massively underrated films. The MCU’s Hulk is just the punch line of a bad joke.
