you know alot of people forget that Tony didn't create the new element that he puts in his suit. I always felt like that the MCU has always needed scenes like this. The way that this scene allows Howard to talk to Tony through an old home movie feels very impactful, not just how Tony realises that his father did care about him, but this scene alone really set the course of the MCU going forward after Iron Man 2. This is cinema at its peak, and we just didn't know it yet.

I love this scene so much, and it's one of the reasons why I love the MCU so much. Not the big grand battle scenes (yes, they're cool) but nothing beats intimate personal moments like this one. This scene reminds me of my own dad. My dad constantly told me how proud of me he was. And while he was in hospice earlier this year, the last solemn promise I made to him was that I'd go back to school, study engineering, and pursue my dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer. I wish he could have lived long enough to see me accomplish my dreams and goals. Everything I do, from this day forward will be as much for him as it is for me.

The only negative if that is if he never said “I love you”, to his son as a child. Saying it to the son when he’s an adult has no meaning at all. Tony probably saw that as”Howard is just trying to get into heaven by saying that” At least my dad said “I love you”, to me as a kid. And when I became an adult, it meant something! Especially when he said:” I do love you son! And I know I did things that made you hate me at times. But if I didn’t do them, I’d have failed as a parent!”

To have your dad essentially treat you like toilet paper your whole life then only years after his death you finally get confirmation he actually loved you. Tony got ambushed with these feelings untill we finally reached endgame where he can confirm it with the guy himself.

Howard Stark looks like Walt Disney and that plan is to build DISNEYLAND
@DoctorFalchion
@DoctorFalchion 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, the whole concept seems to be not-so-subtly based on Walt Disney's plans for EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. EPCOT now, of course, lends its name to the Epcot park; the World Showcase is loosely based on one of Walt's ideas for EPCOT. Part of Walt's original model is still on display at the Peoplemover in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. Even the Stark Expo itself is taking some major notes from the 1964-65 New York World's Fair (note the Unisphere and the New York State Pavilion, which were real things), where Disney presented several of his ideas, including parts of his theoretical EPCOT and the "Carousel of Progress," a ride which is still operating today (albeit with alterations - the EPCOT model was originally displayed at the end of it, and after being at the Fair it was actually in Disneyland before coming to Disney World where it is today). This article from 2010 sums it all up really well: jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_chief1/b/jim_hill/archive/2010/05/14/why-for-does-howard-stark-look-like-walt-disney-in-iron-man-2.aspx and the Wikipedia article for EPCOT is also worth glancing over: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPCOT_(concept)

I love how this one scene completely changed how Tony saw his dad. He always thought his father was cold towards him and didn’t even like him, but it’s because Howard knew that Tony would be the one to fix his mistakes, to be the one who solved the problems he never could. He was hard on Tony because he knew that he had the potential to be one of the greatest minds on the planet, and because of THIS scene Tony now truly believed it. The one person who he thought he had disappointed turned out to be the one person who was his biggest supporter and his biggest advocate. That’s why his greatest creation wasn’t helping to make super soliders or advanced weapons, it was his son.

I like to look at it like this is the moment tony realises his dad truly believed in him to carry on his work and legacy and that his father always had faith he would be a man to be proud of. It’s for me when he realises his dad spent so much time building for the future for his future that the only time he got to tell his boy he believed in him was a video. And then in endgame when he talks to his dad is when he realises not only did he believe in him as an inventor and future genius but how much he loved him even before he was born

I wouldn't say it completely changed how he viewed his dad, here's why: after tony found out that Bucky killed his parents, he attacked Bucky. Cap tried to tell tony that it wasn't Bucky's fault, and that he was under the control of Hydra. Tony said "I don't care, he killed my mom." Which shows that he didn't really care about his father's death, or at the very least, didn't care about it as much as his mom's death. And I don't blame him for not caring all that much. He was treated coldly by his father for years, up until the point of his father's death. One video praising Tony isn't going to immediately make Tony forgive him

I think it just goes to show how he doesn’t let even THAT feat get to his head and acknowledges his mortality, his shortcomings which okay a big deal into his adaptive nature in always learning from mistakes. And that lack of arrogance allows Tony to win, when Thanos let himself get drunk on the high of victory and so blinded himself.

Shit, this scene always brings me to tears. How powerful this is, Howard passing the torch on to his son because, admitting the technological gap of his era but fiercely trusting the future generation to make a better future for humankind. And at the same time he affirmed that our brains, our capability to evolve, change, adapt, this is the best technology, hence the machine being nothing without the human brain and that will never be capable to match human ingenuity. @@thebidoof2621 I dont understand why didnt they cast Dominic Cooper in the first place as old Howard, with ton of makeup of course. Dont get me wrong John Slattery did a decent job but Cooper managed to have the mannerism like Tony. Plus its jarring to see Slattery's Howard with Peggy Carter (antman) or Jarvis (endgame). And his appearence would be better if Cooper played him. Plus their height, faceshape, body shape is different, its hard to believe they are the same person.

@@abdmin3268 Technically they casted John slattery before casting Dominic Cooper as Iron man 2 came out before First Avenger. However since Howard is in his 20's during CA:First Avenger they wanted a younger actor to play him which is why they casted Dominic Cooper.

I recon why he spoke to Tony directly back then is that he met Tony at the military base in the last Avengers movie. It makes sense that Howard Stark finally realize he has seen his son in his adult body.

Fool's Requiem what’s the USA as the only country fighting seven separate wars currently? How about what’s happening in Puerto Rico as a USA Territory where people are literally killing one another for access to water? What about flint, MI where people still don’t have access to water? What about the genocide that’s occurring in Yemen? Just last week, our weapons were used to bomb a wedding where most of the dead were women and children; including the bride. The USA provides the financial support and weapons. That must make the USA a supporter of human rights. I have lived in Iran. What specific human rights violations are you referring to? What specific human rights violations are you referring to regarding North Korea? Can you provide any sources that are not from for profit organizations?
