Toppers - Basics - How to Put On
Blending in your real hairline and leaving a bit of your hair out in the front
This might seem really simple but I figured I'd show you. This is the Jon Renau "Top Secret" (they now call it "Top Style" )which is a double monofilament top but not a traditional "lace front". It has a tiny amount of hair hand tied in the very front and underneath along the hairline, they call this front a 1/8” FOLDED SWISS LACE. It is then followed on the base of the hairline with a strip of smooth plastic in case you want to tape or glue it down.
Color is a 6 Fudgesicle - Medium Dark Brown.
Length is 18 in.
Base size is 9 inch by 8.5 in
This is one of my favorite toppers. Expensive but worth it. I got mine from www.cysterwigs.com in their clearance section but they no longer have it (mine was for less than $100 Retails normally for $230 or more). Try instead wigs.com or wigoutlet.com Search term "Jon Renau topper"

Thank you for posting this. I have been wearing keratin extensions for years to hide my thinking hair but my hair, on top, is getting too thin to hide the extensions anymore. It looks great on you. I appreciate your showing your real hair. Mine is little more fine but otherwise just like yours...makes me feel awful not knowing what to do with it. I think the topper may just be my answer.

Glad they help. Yes, we have a nice little community of wig wearers here. Being a topper this is not as hot as a wig and it lets you pull your hair up into a pony tail or bun. I live in Texas and still wear this in the summer with no problem. Granted synthetic hair is slightly hotter than a human hair. But human hair is expensive and requires more upkeep. Yes, the part is pre-done on this one, meaning you don't have to pluck additional hair out to make it wider. Of course its personal preference so you could gently pluck out more. This is a "folded lace front" meaning quite different than a traditional lace front with no gluing or plucking of the hairline needed. Folded lace front are actually my favorite.

Thanks! This one isn't too terribly hot. I wear it in 100 degree weather, granted I spend most of my day in an office :) Better than a full wig, not as cool as a human hair topper or large closure.

My hair is also fragile so I avoid back-combing. I find these clips hold very well. You can also spray a little dry shampoo on your bio hair if you need more grip. Depending on how fragile your hair is....keep in mind clips can case bald spots. You could try full wigs or try glueing topper down with Got2BGlued.

Usually a silk topper is a finer mesh and better. However their are no rules or standard between brands so it is hard to tell. Sometimes they say silk topper when they mean double monofilament or two layers of fabric mesh which is always good.

What causes hair to thin out suddenly? I had super major thick hair all my life. I turned 35 and it’s like overnight it thinned out and the density got so fine! I got checked out. Nothing medically wrong. No thyroid issues etc. my parents both have super thick hair still in their sixties. Could it just be age and that’s why it’s suddenly not thick anymore? It just happened so fast that it shocked me. I miss my thick hair so bad and don’t know why it’s now thin fine hair. 😢 I have chin length hair and wonder if they make any toppers this short?

They do make toppers in short lengths or you can trim them to fit your own hair. Have you looked into symptoms of PCOS and related hair loss / fine hair? There can me many causes of hair loss. You might ask your doctor to check hormone levels beyond just thyroid. Best of luck.

Try google maps for a store that sells wigs in your area. Or try a Beauty Supply store aimed at African American ladies as they can usually point you in the direction of a hair salon that specializes in wigs, weaves and hair extensions.

Absolutely! One of the reasons to choose a topper instead of a full wig is that ponytails and updos are easier with a topper as the back edge sits higher up on your head and not at the nape of your neck. So the edge of the piece is covered by your own bio hair in the back if swept up. With full wigs often only a low ponytail can be worn.

Use a flexible measuring tape or a ribbon to measure your own head and bio-hair. Usually 4 to 6 inches. Or buy longer and just rim the hairpiece.

This topper is synthetic so no it can't be dyed. They make a more expensive human hair version though that could be.

The clips can create a tiny bald patch if you repeating clip in the same place just from tension and pulling. You can try gluing the topper on instead or every month re-sew the clips on the wig over an inch or so. Or alternate with a full wig. I wear a topper daily and have not had much issues but every persons hair is different.

This is pretty breathable. I live in Texas and still wear in the summer. Cooler than a full wig. Human hair toppers would be a little cooler.

My hairloss is related to something called PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). See my hairloss videos. Basically a hormone imbalance that is caused by your ovaries not producing correct levels of hormones like androgen and estrogen. Many symptoms to it but one is hair loss in women at the temples and the center circle crown of the head and thinning of the hair all over with also miniaturized hair follicles which make each strand thinner. Sometimes similar to baby fine frizzy hair texture you might see on a 2 yr old.. If you have multiple symptoms besides hairloss like irregular periods, weight gain, unwanted hair growth on the neck and chin, depression, fatigue, sleep problems; then you might have PCOS. Discuss with your doctor or your gynecologist or dermatologist or an endocrinologist. Hairloss can also be caused by other things like horomone problems, thyroid issues, vitamin deficiency, stress or pregnancy.

Yes if you look very close you can see the netting. This is a double mono which is still better than the single mono where you see bot the netting and the knots.

Yes, you could. I have heard of people swimming in wigs. This clips in securely and I would recommend pinning it up into a ponytail or bun to be even more secure.

Toppers to me are extremely damaging to hair. If you have little or thinning hair the gentlest clips are going to be damaging.

You are right the clips in toppers and exentions can damage hair and create bald spots. If someone's hair is fragile or very thin I recommend a full wig. If using a topper try to alternate where you clip in the clips and vary the days you wear it . I luckily haven't gotten a bald spot from the clips even after 2 years or so.

Try Easilocks easi in hair extensions. It's basically "hidden hair" by Daisy fuentes or Halo or crown hair without the damage. It won't work if you're Very sparce on top though. All the best.. It's a struggle for our self confidence. I Feel you Xoxo 💝
