"It's a solid song; but it was not the norm for me because I’m basically a troubadour. But I cut my hair off, lost lots of weight, glammed up, and ran it up the flagpole - and it worked! It worked all the way to a Grammy, which was kind of surprising. It was a lot of fun. I stopped singing it for awhile, because I needed a little perspective on it. But now I sing it again, and it’s kinda fun." -- Melissa Manchester, 2012 interview. (She also admitted she initially didn't want to record it because it was so far out of her comfort zone.)

I have been looking all thru the Internet trying to find out who she is! I love her dance moves in this video! I can't find any info or video dance credits on her or the other dancers. I would love to find just one of them and be able to talk to them about the making of this video. The brunette on the left dancing next to the guy with the hat that I can't find, I'd love to know what happened to her? She has awesome dance moves! I would have to imagine she ended up in other videos, movies or maybe even an actress? This song meant so much to me back in the day because it came out at the exact same time for the first time in my 15 year old life that a girl I liked was attracted to me and was asking about me and sending her girl friends to talk to me about her! We ended up dating over the summer until I had to go back to Iowa for school but we carried on a long distance love affair thru the mail over our sophomore year in high school and remained life long friends! I felt like they wrote this song for me at the exact right moment in the summer of 1982, the favorite summer of my teenage years!! If anyone knows who the dancing girl on the far right is or any info on any of the dancers please let me know? I would love to know about any of them! This dance crew had the perfect chemistry that helped make this song and video a major hit in 1982!! I can't hear this song and not think of this video especially with that beautiful female dancer on the far right!...🥰

I think they're trying to appeal to the youth market so they're putting all these teenaged Solid Gold Dancers in the background to keep it young. Melissa isn't old here; but she's older than the demographic; she's like 32 here...and she wasn't famous at this point for youth-dance hits; she was famous for 70s ballads. So they're just using the kids to appeal to the right market.
